She was not okay.
"Course I am, stop fussing." There was a loose bandage wrapped around the knee, and the ankle, and she limped very gently forward. "Look, no one's here to greet us. They must have heard I got hurt, and only want me at my best. I can't blame them."

"M'not gonna stop 'til yer actually fine," he retorted a little petulantly, insisting that Maebe put weight off that leg and lean against him as they headed in. He could at least afford her that aid before they hit the pool. "But I don' miss 'em."
Wishing he could just dig up all the vines and put them out of their misery, Dawson trudged forward with as much noise as he could, trying to attract their attention so Maebe could hopefully cross safely.

He did an amazing job. He truly did keep the vines so occupied, that she was able to limp through without attention.
"It's just a little sprain, Dawson." She leaned on him heavily. "Oh, man, I am so wrong. It's a horrible break. I need to lean on you all day long."

Maebe did an impeccable job of hiding the satisfaction she felt when the bull reared it's head in their direction, pinning them with its glare. She let go of Dawson, and stood on her own two feet. Her leg only ached, and burned with the heat of Thaw's diligent touch. Surely she would be fine, now.
She patted Dawson on the rear for good luck, and slowly sauntered towards it, her hips beating a heartbeat's rhythm as she walked.

There would be no parkour leaps up onto the beast, this time around. Maebe stayed on the ground, chipping away as she'd done before. She couldn't do much more than that.

But did it really matter? She was getting good at chipping the hell out of the bull, and even better at dodging it's violent comebacks.

With each attack, Maebe's leg began to remind her that no, it was not fully healed yet, and no, she was not helping by putting so much weight on it.
Thaw did not feel the need to vocalize these truths, because the way she was grinding her teeth told him she knew, and did not care.

But at least chipping away did not use her legs.
Being knocked out by a bull's imposing horns, however, did wonders to undo what Thaw had so meticulously achieved.

She'd been working on his horn for the last two attempts, and with the third one she succeeded in dislodging the marble appendage, crashing it down to the ground - and on her.
