[ Hospital Basement ]

Chel followed in suit with the others, hobbling along where she could and cursing the fact that stairs were ever a thing. Getting down the stairs was probably the hardest part thus far, having to use a combination of left on her left side and using Chris' back to keep herself from falling down the stairs face first.

Once they'd made it down, Finn went to investigating a body and helping the little one (princess? That was an interesting choice of nickname. Then again, hers was Jumpsuit ...).

Jack decided he was going to grace them with his presence and said, "I could've used that ... on the beach." Oddly enough, her tone wasn't sarcastic either. Just sort of mildly scolding him for his negligence.

She tried to move forward to help the others with the search, but every few seconds she needed to pause and breath, leaning on a table or a chair. In hindsight she thought one of the things might have been a body, but memory deigned not to remember it precisely.

"Find anything useful?"

Suddenly sirens. Detonation. Chel still wasn't all there, but she knew what that meant and she knew she was a liability. "Don't you ******** even think of leaving me." Nope, no "GO ON WITHOUT ME" from this girl. She was getting off of this island alive. "I mean it."

[ exiting dorms ]

When Mimsy lifted the phone to her ear, she did not hear the Doctor's voice. Sadly.

What she did hear was the same thing that everyone else inevitably heard, judging from how loud it was. The alarms seemed to sound from every direction, and she fumbled with the phone, startled by the noise. That was unfortunate timing.

Hopefully Dr. H had not actually picked up his phone, if the call connected.

She tucked the phone back into her pocket, hand shaking, took another deep breath (full of the scent of blood and rot again), and reached for Shu's hand. She gave her a smile, crooked but earnest.

"See? Time to go home! Mark helped us win!" Hoping to reassure her, she squeezed her hand. "You will be safe, I promise. Just stay with me, little rabbit. Follow Alice this time, okay? I will follow you next time, if you would like for me to."

As she spoke, she began to lead her back down the hall, walking just brisk enough to ensure that they would get there on time, careful to avoid seeming too panicked. On the way out, she quickly detoured into the room that she had taken the folder and the picture from.

"You are much more prepared than I am. Such a good girl," she praised Shu, releasing her hand to pet her hair again. "If you don't mind, I would like to borrow some of your extra space."

She tapped the top of her bee backpack, just to prove that she didn't mean something creepy, then went about trying to collect the things she wanted to put inside it: the hairbrush that Otto had thrown across the room, and the portrait of Sam.

When she picked up the wig, intending to put it in the backpack as well, she noticed an amusing similarity; she giggled, and looked down at Shu, as she held the blonde wig up in front of her.

"Like Alice, isn't it?" This was a fun game! Still laughing, she put the wig on her head, which looked kind of comical with two dark braids trailing out of the bottom. There was no mistaking who Shu was supposed to be 'following' now, at least, and she took her hand again to lead her out of the building, without making any more stops along the way.

Robert was waiting for them in the doorway, which made her smile again; then she saw who he was carrying, and it was very hard to keep smiling. But she tried, for both of them.

She didn't acknowledge Mark, and quietly let go of Shu's hand again to wrap her arm around her again. Her hand came to rest over her ear, just behind her cheek, and she gently nudged her face towards her, in hopes of sparing her the sight.

She had called him Uncle Mark, hadn't she?

Mimsy very adamantly refused to allow Shu's new family to be so easily dismantled, if that was the case.

"Hello, doctor husband," she greeted him, voice artificially steadied. "You are strong. I believe in you, to put the pieces back together. You will. You do. So let's go home now."

Very carefully, she leaned over to kiss his cheek. She made no mention of the wig she was wearing, and offered no explanation for it whatsoever.

[Exiting]

It didn't take long, but he would have waited forever. What Robert hadn't counted on, however, was that Mimsy was taking care of Shu, which meant Shu was right on her heels as they ran towards him and the exit. Robert shuddered, and rubbed his eyes roughly with his fist. He couldn't change the fact that he looked like he'd been mourning, nor could he hide the body on his shoulder. How was he going to explain to Shu that he'd failed to keep Mark safe?

How was he going to look anybody in the eye ever again?

His eyes closed when her lips met his cheek, and he tried to glean any amount of comfort from the gesture. He cherished every moment Mimsy was sweet to him, but the burden bearing down on him was heavy, and dampened his spirits. His brows furrowed in confusion when he realized she was wearing a blonde wig, but he couldn't bring himself to ask. She was just eccentric enough to have stolen someone's wig while exploring the area, and he was just dreary enough to let it go without comment.

He kissed her lips, because he was selfish and needed the comfort that quick, stolen moment gave. Then he straightened up and nodded, holding the door open for them both with his body.

"Wilson's got the portal, he's heading down. We're meeting at the Lighthouse. Go. I'm right behind you. Don't look back."

IDEK, GTFO

He'd been delayed by a sentry this whole time. Yes. Yes he was. It was a combination of cowering, whimpering, nonsensical babbling, and suddenly ramming Vanna's spike through their throat that has Before finally managing to escape. Perfect timing as there was apparently a warning of the place detonating.

Oh good, just another mission he goes on and learns absolutely nothing about. He is so glad to not be in Death and not for the usual reasons.

Otto's ears had been ringing long before the alarms blared. That had been Simon. Just what else could go wrong? What had gone so wrong? Even Mimsy's crazed rambling behind him had only added to the white noise buzzing in his ears.

The alarms blared and the warnings sounded. It was time to go. Running was the only thing he was good at.

One look at who was with him, and then he was gone. Otto ran from the building and out the doors towards the lighthouse. Why was he even trying to save himself now? What for? To fight another day? Since when did he do anything worthwhile that warranted his sorry a** being saved?

He was so useless.

The alarms suddenly blared and Rep looked up from where he'd been eyeing Simon. He'd gone down fighting with everything he had, that much was evident. He pocketed the box of pocky as if it was a rare treasure and hefted the man's body over his shoulder. It didn't matter that he was gone, he deserved a proper burial back at the island, he did not deserve to be discarded.

Before he left with the others to the portal, he checked to make sure Simon's tablet was retrieved with him. He was running on nothing but instinct, completely numbed by the events of this awful island.

He'd always expected to be killed one say by Simon, him dying first seemed far outside the order of things.

The detonation warning was enough of an order for Harrison.

He shifted Allan so he could carry him, and didn't stray from Rep and Simon.

Otto likely saw Rin still to his side this entire time, stunned to absolute silence by the events that unfolded. She couldn't believe it, any of it. She was grateful for the strong backs of the sun and moon as there would have been no way for her to help. She couldn't help. She had bandages, but now was not the time. Alarms were screaming and death seemed almost imminent. As everyone moved, so did she. Her mind a buzz of just noise. If these were hunters they knew, what about the others they didn't stop to check the faces of? Were those hunters they had known too? People who's lives are now left rotted and now to waste. People like her. It hurt to know there was nothing she could do for them either.

Kostya had been released. The thing in the basement had broken Peyton's leg casually, easily, like smashing a small insect, before it had been pulled away by something that looked like cobwebs. Once her leg had been attended to, Lex picked her up; Jordan ducked back into the office to pick up as many of the folders as he could grab, even as the evacuation alarm started to sound.

Then he followed them down the stairs, mouth set in a grim line. He didn't know if they'd done any good, and they might have released something they didn't know how to deal with. Where were Rep and Harrison? He shouldn't have split off.

Lighthouse

Everything that could have gone wrong had went wrong.

A sigh of resignation as the alarms blared over the speakers. “We have to go.” His voice didn’t even carry over the sirens. He hadn’t been able to do anything, to find anything. He’d managed to accomplish nothing. All he had were a few token memories of death and blood and pain, but he would mull over those later. He always did.

There were sharp pangs of silent envy in his chest as Wilson passed Robert and Mimsy and Shu. How nice, he thought, to still have something like that. Keep walking. So he did, all the way to the lighthouse. He briefly looked at the few hunters already gathered before he opened Mark’s laptop.

His finger hovered over the ‘enter’ key as he stared at the words. This was it. It was over.

Wilson tapped ‘enter.’

[ Security Room ]

Jake didn't know what to believe anymore. He refused to believe that the death assistant could have died so easily. Had they really come that far just to see everything everyone important die?

He felt Sherry touch his arm, and turned, regret washing over any sort of anger he may have felt. They were too late. It was too late, and they had screwed up.
As if that weren't enough, the alarms itself was even telling them their time was up. He took Sherry's hand, and intertwined his fingers with hers. He didn't want to lose anyone else.

"Let's go home..."

Sherry did what she could to push all the feelings down. This was one of those cases where Armagnac seemed to know what was best. Don't get emotional, keep your wits, stay calm.

Even with alarms.

"Yes," she replied to Jake, squeezing his hand.

Towards the lighthouse, following the others.

Chris eyed the new member to their little party. He didn't know him but Chel seemed familiar with his frosty attitude, so that settled him some. He helped Chel down the stairs and left Finn to the body while he searched corners and drawers in the flickering horror light. Still nothing.

His head snapped up as the voice rang out. Detonations? Oh ******** no. They needed to get the hell out of here. "We're not leaving you anywhere, dumbass. But we need to get out, I don't think we're going to find anything here." He moved to her good side and wrapped her arm around his shoulders and his arm around her waist so he could support her moving a little better. He paused for complaints, but he didn't really give a s**t. This was fast and effective, and they didn't really have the time to b***h at each other.

[ SECURITY ]

"I can walk."

This was a lie, but he reached for Stormy and he reached for Solia, Gale's hands gripping both of their arms as he hauled himself to his feet between the pair of them. Slinging his arms around both of their shoulders, he ignored the agonizing pain in his leg and held on tight to them, hissing out a long breath.

"Run."

Security Room > Lighthouse

Lex stared at the emptiness in the room, head still whirling from Mark's death and the blaring sirens. They had to leave, they had to run. No time left, no time left.

Alive.

He forsook Peyton's pain, clenched his teeth, and ran. He ran as fast as he possibly could, head still whirling

Mark, asleep. Caelius, working. Alive. Alive. Alive.

Were they?

He was sprinting now, ignoring any possible screams of pain Peyton may have been making. He ignored the possible pain of her throwing fists at him and cursing him. Go. Go. Go.

He would be Alive. They'd all be alive.
