Masumi nodded, the hopeful smile turning to a grin of relief and gratitude, even as Andou-sensei warned her not to be late the next day. Almost imperceptibly, her eyes flickered between her sensei's smile and his eyes. She seemed to have noticed something off about that smile, but unusually the feeling of bloodthirstiness did not seem to be corroborated by the expression in the man's eyes. Masumi relaxed, surprising herself with how tense she was. She flashed another grin to cover up her slip, then skipped over to the shelf Andou-sensei had indicated.

She dropped character once she started searching for the scroll. It was taxing to maintain a persona, even one as fun and carefree as the girl she was a moment ago. At least peppy-little-girl had worked wonderfully. Masumi really had gotten hopelessly lost, but now she was assured not to have to be punished for it. She pulled the hand seal scroll off of the shelf, hopping over to a desk with the text in tow. She carefully propped her biwa in the empty seat next to her, then unrolled the scroll and began reading.

It wasn't long before Masumi felt completely out of her league. She hadn't even gotten to the hand seals themselves, but all the stuff about "chakra" and "ninjutsu" and "genjutsu" were confusing. None of the examples seemed particularly helpful. She ran her hands through her hair many times as she tried to make sense of the text, only stopping when she noticed more than a few golden strands falling onto the scroll. Masumi surreptitiously gathered up the stray hairs, and instead opted to biting her lip as an outlet for her nervousness. Her eyes darted around the room, taking a look around the room, but whatever it was the other students were doing was just as arcane as the examples. Unable to make any significant progress, she looked sheepishly towards Andou-sensei, hoping to catch his eye so she could get some help. At least she hadn't torn the scroll when she'd opened it. That would probably have scared her off completely from even trying to become a shinobi.

Tenko looked at Karasu and raised an eyebrow. 'So that's how it was going to be huh?' He stared at the back of Karasu's head defiantly. "Then... Karasu... outside we will go." He really didn't like to be intimidated. He was always afraid of things and looked for a way that he could escape but it irked him for some reason. His hands clenched into fists and then released. He walked out the door that led to the outside and looked around. The mist was as strong as usual. He could make out the the shapes of the trees but he couldn't make out individual leafs. He turned his attention to the other boy. "So... everything we've learn in the Academy so far is okay right?" He began to wonder if he had made a horrible mistake to go against this Karasu. He shook his head and clenched his fist. This needed to be done. 'Plus I'd rather fight someone I may some day be working with than an enemy trying to kill me...' He swallowed hard at that thought.

Before he left the class he didn't really acknowledge that Andou had said anything else to him. And by the time that Tenko would get outside Karasu was finishing stretching his arms and legs out. He showed little more emotion on his face than excitement. He hadn't sparred with anyone as of yet. The kid was small.. but he seemed like he knew more than Karasu did. "Anything beside weapon use. Andou-sensei wouldn't like it if one of us ended up in the hospital. But a little warning.. I am not a beginner in taijutsu." With that he wouldn't give Tenko too much time to react. Lunging forward he would try to hit him with a spinning round house. But due to the height of the boy Karasu would bend at the knee. To drop the kick to Tenko's right bicep.

Tenko was sent off the ground and winced as he hit the ground. His breathing became slightly labored as staggered to stand upright. 'Shesh. I guess no, Hey are you ready?... Nope. Just a cheap shot... But dang did that hurt. He definitely isn't a beginner... Oh well...' He staggered to stand and shook his head as a sly smirk spread across his face. He flowed through the hand signs from one to the other, "Bunshin no jutsu." His smile grew as five clones sprang forth. He hoped it would help. 'I'd like to see him use that Taijutsu now... I need to at least be able to hit him a few more times than he is able to hit me... but his hits are anything but slow.' He felt a tinge in his arm and put it toward the back of his head. A dull throb slowly began where he was kicked.

Tenko blinked at the punch as a shiver went through him. He needed to try and make the clones more real so he could have bought some time. Tenko felt like sighing but suppressed it. The only way to fight this guy was hand to hand. He wasn't going to be able to use the jutsu regrettably. The punch had thankfully created what looked like an opening. So Tenko crouched and lunged to get past but kept his hand in a fist as he attempted to use the speed and get a quick shot into Karasu's side. He aimed for just below the ribs on the slightly expose back with a sharp elbow. He hoped it would work otherwise it was going to have to be hit and run tactics.

Andou-sensei saw that she had gotten into a rhythm for learning the gestures, and promptly returned to the head of the classroom, probably to better oversee the progress of everyone in the room. Masumi had little trouble with the next two seals she picked, Ram and Rat. They seemed to her to be variations of the Tiger seal. In fact, those two seemed a bit easier than the Tiger Seal, seeing as how she didn't have to intertwine her fingers. Once she had the motions down, and felt the accompanying chakra flow, she set about remembering which was which. For the Tiger Seal, she imagined the locking fingers to be reminiscent of a tiger's stripes, with a long tail sticking out the back. The Rat Seal was a two-finger rat hiding in a tunnel formed by the other hand. And the Ram Seal she imagined a ram jumping over a tiger to avoid becoming dinner. Not entirely plausible, but whoever said that mnemonic devices had to be grounded in reality? Happy with her little stories, Masumi looked at the diagrams to see what she could try next.
