I think you guys are being too harsh on Karla. Sure she's hard to get and comes late, but she's decent as a fighter. Renault is neither of those, for one.

If anyone cares, I changed my vote to Zagaro of FE11, mainly due to the fact that no one knows who the hell Zeke is, so why vote him for best if I just sound like a babbling old fool? And I'm replaying FE11 for data collection for a pal of mine on emulator, and it just jogged my mind of how beautiful he is on H5.

And it isn't my place, in fact, if anyone wants to argue this, do feel free to argue with a FE7 pro who isn't me at all, but being able to staff bot/abuse >>>>>> being able to use a sword, at least FE5 says. IIRC, FE7 had pretty kick a** uses to staff bot as well.

I completely agree with Maji on this.

Renault has staff support and can use fancy things like Fortify and Restore and the like. Karla can't. Renault doesn't require you to use a specific unit to a certain level that you don't necessarily want to. Karla does. Renault also has the advantage of constant 1-2 range, so even if he's not a great fighter, he can make potshots at things and not worry about counterattacks if you want to try that. Karla is almost always getting counterattacked.

If anything, I think people are being unreasonably harsh on Renault. If people would even look at their stats, they'd realize all the s**t they're talking about Renault applies to Karla at her base level as well (and as late as she comes, it's not worth the effort to feed her exp). Renault has much better HP, better Skl, Spd, Def, and Res. His Mag stat is 2 points lower than her Str is… but he attacks resistance. If Karla's decent as a fighter, so is Renault.

And 15 Defense on a magically based used is ******** impressive, especially combined with his base 43 HP. The ONLY other magic users who you can expect to eventually compete with Renault's physical durability are fully leveled Pent and Canas. To give you an idea of how durable he is (and competent as a fighter, for that matter) SAIN's average speed at 20/20 barely matches Renault's starting Speed, his average defense at 20/20 is only a fraction of a point higher than Renault's starting Def… and Renault is beating him in a number of other areas. People talking s**t about his stats, get a clue. His availability is definitely atrocious, but some of the things said about him in this thread are outright untrue.

I might have put Karla as my worst, but I've never actually obtained her before due to a crippling allergy to Fighters in FE7, so it'd be unfair of me to list her there.

And I list him as the worst because despite his stats, his availability ruins it for me. By that point I've got everyone I want to use, and there's not going to be any room for him.

And yeah, at least he does come with that Fortify, it's niiiice.

Yeah, his availability is about as bad is it possibly can be. By that alone, he'd have to be the worst in FE7 at least. Karla's is functionally as bad, though. And there's more to consider than availability.

Best: Pent. He comes with the handy Elfire tome and the Physic Staff (one of the best staves in the game), which puts him above Renault (who's only noteworthy item is the Fortify Staff). He also almost always outclasses Erk, who has to promote before being used. Not to mention that most of your units will probably be promoted or close to it by the time you get him. If that weren't enough, Pent comes with an A in Staff, meaning he can use the Physic Staff without worrying about leveling up his Staff rank first, something Canas, Nino, Erk, and Lucius can attest for themselves. He does suffer from an automatic A support from Louise, a somewhat subpar Sniper compared to Dodge Troll Rebecca and Bulky Wil.

Honorable mention to Titania, obviously

Worst: I had a tough time with this one. Mainly because most prepromotes of note are really only useful in Hard Mode and tend to suck up experience if you get them too early (See: FE7 Marcus who only gets 3 exp from killing a brigand). I don't exactly hate most of the prepromotes, but I had a lot to consider when figuring out the worst one. I heard a lot about Zealot from FE6, but I haven't played that one and cannot really say anything for him. I considered Vaida from FE7, because she is heavily outclassed by Heath and most of the Pegasi.

I picked Isadora though. Why? Although she comes with some nice equipment, her stats are really lacking in areas vital to a Paladin's success. I can usually throw Marcus into a gang of enemies and see him come out alive. Isadora gets killed in about three hits. Taking hits well is the thing that makes Paladins one of the better classes in the game; they're essentially mounted Knights. What's the point of a Paladin that can't take hits? Its like having an Archer with 0 strength and 5 Speed. Not only that, she has trouble doubling most enemies when she's introduced. Lowen has this problem, too, but at least he has thirty eight levels to remedy this. Isadora doesn't get that luxury. If that weren't enough, Isa's Strength stat is not very impressive either. Lets not even get into the fact that there are PLENTY of Cavaliers to turn into Paladins that are FAR superior to Isadora and you get them FAR before even learning that Isadora exists (Kent and Sain in Lyn Mode get Lyn Mode bonuses, and Lowen comes in on Chapter 11). There's no need for five Paladins, in fact, its hard to keep at least two in the active party, much less a subpar one. No offense to the FEF Isadora, but...FE7's Isadora is the worst unit.

Dishonorable mention to any of the Prepromoted Assassins...at least they can kill something (Silencer, however unreliable) and survive for a while in enemy terratory

I like the name of this game, quite a twist, opinionated best/worst are always interesting, and that's no sarcasm coming from me. :3

Best: Tron (FE4) BADASS CYBERPUNK SPELL, s**t YEAH SON! Honourable mentions to Dime Thunder and Excalibur, just because they sound strikingly badass to compliment badass tomes.

Worst: Bord'n'cord Axe (FE12) Oh for- is that the most creative you could've gotten with unique weapon names, IS? mad
Dishonourable mention to Frying Pan, FE12 is a weird, weird game..
EDIT: Oh, and Wrys, it's Wrys, but on a stick, yum...

Best: Durandal. Sounds so powerful.

Worst: Shine. It's not that I have anything particular against this name, but it's the only thing that popped into my head that didn't sound so impressive.

Best: Rex Hasta.

Because I'm a sucker for Latin. There are actually a lot of good weapon names, IMO, but the diversity of names makes it difficult to provide. Particular notables for me would include Gungnir, Aureola, Alondite, and Valaura, among others.

Worst: Lughnasadh (learned to spell it without looking ;D)

Difficult to pronounce, obnoxious to spell. An orally unattractive word. Gross.
Yotsmugand gets a mention, too. Maph isn't much better. Pachyderm is questionable, also, but I could see it having some sort of appreciable aesthetic quality, I guess.

Best: Caladbolg- This was so hard, I just had to settle and choose one.
Worst: Lughnasadh- THE SNEEZE BOW.

Best : The Silencer - Shinon's hand-made bow. I just like it's name. I just sounds so deadly. -w- I also wanted to pick Alondite but I like the Silencer a bit better.

Worst: Shine - I dunno. I agree with Demonhorn, it just doesn't sound all that impressive especially when it's a light magic and it's called "shine". :/

Rath - That is amazing. I love how you called it the sneeze bow. xD

Best: Amiti, it's simple and I love the meaning behind the word.
Worst: Lughnasadh, ಠ_ಠ

Changed my vote to Tron, nothing better than a badass cyberpunk spell that puts you in mind of some sort of badass robot. cool

But my vote for worst remains the same, everyone else gets normal personal weapons (Luke's Sword, Cecil's Sword, Ryan's Bow, etc) then.. Bord'n'cord' Axe. Come on, IS for one, my name isn't even capitalized, and for two, we are the only one with a stupid joke name of a personal weapon. D<

Also @ Lughnasadh: It's traditional Gaelic tongue (Lu-na-sad-ah).
