"Yea...." Lin frowned, "And it's active. It would certainly explain why this island is so lush. The ash from it would be good for this place, I just hope it's not so active that it erupts with a lot of lava. That won't be pleasant."
Though from the looks of it, either it didn't do that often or it didn't come this way or didn't give off a lot of lava.

"No, that would be quite frightening," Rhea agreed. "I don't even know if we would have the time to leave the island ... but I don't know how fast the lava flows from a volcano, so ..."
Suddenly from the other direction came the sound of rustling, as if something had come through the trees. Rhea looked around sharply, looking for the source of the noise. There, only a few miles out, was a dragon - a magnificent white dragon, flying through the air.
"Lin!" she exclaimed excitedly. "Look!"

Lin turned her head and stared at the sight. She had never seen a large dragon like that. At least not in real life, so that was what the dragons of the Four Lands looked like.
"It's beautiful," Lin breathed, "And look at that.... do you think it has a nest somewhere on this island then?"

"I don't know," Rhea breathed, her eyes sparkling brightly, "but I'd like to know if there are more."
As they watched, the dragon circled towards the eastern side of the island, then dove down into the trees and vanished.

"Maybe that's where it lives, though if there are dragons living here we should be careful."
Lin didn't know much about dragons except they were potentially dangerous, she remembered Aragost's reaction when Adan found tracks once.

"Always," Rhea murmured softly. "Did you see how big it was, though? At least fifty feet long!"
Half the size of the sea dragons they had seen, but just as magnificent.
"We should tell Shiro about it later, he'll want to know all the details he can so that he can add that to his journal as well," she laughed.

Lin chuckled at that, "No doubt about it. We'll have to tell him about it, he'll probably also want to know about the volcano as well."
She looked back down at the ground.
"Should we get back down? Or maybe something else will pop up."

No sooner were the words out of her mouth but suddenly an entire flock of bright red and green birds shot out of the treetops only about half a mile away. They screeched as they flapped off, heading north, and within a minute they had settled into the trees somewhere else.
Rhea stared. "I wonder what set them off," she mused. She looked over at Lin. "I hope nothing bad."

"Maybe something fell?" Lin hazard a guess, "Or a predator?"
Those were the safest reasons she could think of why the birds would have taken flight like that. She looked again but really there was nothing they could do about it.
"Hopefully that's all it was."

Rhea nodded. "Probably." She looked over at Lin again. "So. Climb down and keep going?" she asked her. "We probably shouldn't go too much further, we have to stay close to the beach, after all ..."
She looked down. Whisper was still waiting patiently, her ears flicking back and forth, alert as she waited for her mistress to return to the safety of the ground.

"Let's head back down," Lin replied, "We can explore a bit more on foot and maybe in the future we'll ask if we can scout by air. There's a lot more to this place than meets the eye."
Though she wasn't sure what she was supposed to expect out of an island like this.

"You can say that again," Rhea murmured as she began the climb down the tree. It was a bit slower going, since she had to be more careful, but she made her way down carefully. "Dragons, huge butterflies, a live volcano ... what next?"
She reached the ground and stepped out of the way for Lin to come down as well.

Lin hopped down from the lowest branch possible. Standing up straight she brushed herself off for a moment looking thoughtful.
"Huge pitcher plants?" Lin inquired as a joke.
Though with this place it was certainly possible.

Rhea didn't understand what Lin meant, and she stared at her blankly. "What?"
Whisper was also confused. "Perhaps some plant that is found in Gaian jungles," she suggested, flicking her tail nervously.

"They're the only plant known to actually eat other creatures," Lin explained, "Don't worry they can't go chasing after you or anything like that, and you're half right Whisper. Larger ones are found in jungles they say they feed on small rodents, but there are houseplant version that eat bugs. Apparently they give off something sweet that attracts them and then they close their mouths and eat them."
Lin motioned for them to continue walking maybe they'll make a good distance before going back.
