"So where are we headed my little friend?" Laren asked with a little pat on the halfling's head. The young elf woman looked around her, trying to grasp their general direction in this unfamiliar city.

Kal kept their track towards The Docks. He glowered at the elf over the patting. He was short, he got it, no need to have it emphasized. He didn't care for the 'superiority complex' demeanor of elves. No respect for halflings or anything else. "Towards the Docks," he replied. "I saw a map when we came into the city. Memorized key locations and things to direct off of," he added. He knew generally where he was headed from the key stuff on the map, but the wind in this area also blew towards the water at this point in time, so he was literally following the wind. Bringing up puns like, 'going wherever the wind takes us', 'it takes the wind out of me'.

Selce hadn't expected to meet the Archmage of the city so quickly. She curtsied politely as her mother had taught her. But Selce wasn't sure how to adress her as the archmage and she just a peasant with some minor spells. "Yes I would love to, I was searching for just that thing when I cam into the Mage's Quarters." She confided to Alanna. She smiled at Cervantes and stepped onto the ring. "What exactly will I be learning?" She asked extremely curious as she always was in magic.

Tjaden nodded to Prometheus and then headed out on his own. He made hi way toward the graveyard district to pay his respects to he anscestors of this place. He did not want to attract unwanted attention, but he wasn't going to disrespect his religion for the sake of their distrust.

Selce and Alanna stepped onto the teleportation pad and in a moment, faded into nothingness as they warped through the astral realm for only a second before appearing in one of the upper floors.

As the two wizards emerged, they arrived in a room with a large glowing amethyst portal, it almost appeared watery in consistency and rippled as if it were actually moving.

"Selce, as you know, the magic of this world is essentially derived from the fragments of Chaos that we pull from the void and learn to master for ourselves. The true masters however, are the dragons, they were the first beings in existence. They alone, were able to comprehend every fiber of the grand tapestry of Chaos. This portal is a direct link to the realm of Chaos. There are an infinite number of unknowns that apply when entering this realm, however where you arrive is not."

The archmage stares at the young wizardess.

"This is as much a test as it is the training itself. I request that you and I enter the realm of Chaos and recover a fragment from the environment. This will require you to defeat a lesser creature of Chaos and acquire its essence that it leaves behind. I will not aid you in this task, I will only ensure that no greater fiends decide to attack. This lesser creature of Chaos will, should you succeed, be transformed into your familiar, a being who will serve you for the rest of your days. Are you ready?"

Elsewhere...

The early evening air is cool and still, the dock workers are ending their day and merchants are slowly putting away their merchandise. Kal and Laren make their way into the District to suddenly discover a scene unfolding before them.

"Stop! Thieves! Those brigands stole my day's wages!"

At the bottom of the long stairs leading to the lower half of the district, a group of thieves had just robbed a merchant unpacking his supplies. The trio of rogues began to dart away into an alleyway when all of a sudden, one of them cried out in shock.

An extremely large man emerged from the shadows of the alley, holding one of the rogues by the neck of his tunic. Despite his enormous size, as the remaining thieves drew their weapons and attempted to make short work of the giant man, he swiftly moved out of the way and before they even could realize what had happened, two of the three of them were clutching their stomachs as they fell over in pain. The third man's eyes went wide but his expression was full of rage and frustration. They tossed their loot to the side and assisted one another in running away. The lead of the group yelling back:

"The Shade Dwellers will not forget this!"

*These men might know something about the Thieves' Guild.*

Erron, who had also just arrived in the lower half of the District, took notice of the event as well as the enormous man. The giant returned the stolen money to the merchant, who thanked him dearly and offered him some recompense, but the man refused and said his safety and security were enough reward. Lumbering away, the elderly but giant man slowly made his way up the long stairs to the upper half of the District.

*Perhaps this is the man Beremond spoke of*

A dwarf wandered up to the merchant, apparently they were friends, as he assisted him in reorganizing his things. As he was leaving, the merchant shouted back to him: "Franklorn! You forgot your hammer!"

The dwarf with his blazing red beard and soot covered apron laughed heartily and retrieved his tool. The hammer seemed to radiate and pulse with a blue light.

"I wouldn't be much of a legendary craftsman without me beautiful lil' 'ammer, eh? Hehaw haha!"

With that exchange, the dwarf began making his way towards the Dwarven District.

*This could be someone of importance regarding the crafting of goods*

Laren laughed at the halfling as he glared at her, this was exactly the response she had expected. Her next joke was cut short by the theives and the huge man.

She whistled, clearly impressed by the large man, her attention was more grabbed by the dwarf however. Such a craftsman of obvouis skill would certaintly have something intresting for sale. Better still maybe he could teach her how to make such items herself.

So without a word to Kal, Laren ran off after the dwarven craftsman named Franlorn.

Selce listened carefully to what Alanna had said. "Very well let us go into the void. I wish to grow as a person as well as a wizard and this seems like a good way to do it. That and added set of eye's to watch my back wouldn't be bad either. Especially with the enemies I and two of my friends seem to have gathered about ourselves, but that is a tale for another time. Shall we?" She asked and gestured at the portal. Waiting for Alanna's answer Selce began to cast a defensive mantle for herself, composed of a SHIELD and PROTECTION FROM EVIL spells. She could feel the spells come into being and settle around herself with a slight hum as each contracted into a body shaped bubble about an inch from her skin.

"Vae Victus Valemorae!"

As the Archmage uttered her incantation, the portal rippled wildly in response and began to swirl. She stepped through first, followed by Selce.

The world before you is bright and barren. It feels as if you were amongst the dunes of the Sun Scorch Desert, yet there are three red suns, the ground is crimson and cracked. Flames erupt from cracks in the surface while various roars and guttural cries orchestrate the background music of the realm of Chaos.

Alanna stepped forward into the ash strewn ground, her golden staff cleansing the very ground she set foot on.

"Go mageling. Show me your worth."

Kal saw Laren leave from his periphrials and then darted off, swearing to himself that he would catch up to those... Shade Dwellers. He believed they may know something about the thieves guild, and if nothing else, they would show him where it was, with some persuasion. He darted towards the group, following them through the shady alley's, using his slight night eye from his race and listening to their footsteps. They were damaged, so he would catch up to them soon.

((I assume that you, Tonas, decide if I actually catch up to them, so I shouldn't add anything like, 'he caught up with them' right?))

((That is correct))

As you charge down the darkened alleyways, the sound of the footsteps of the fleeing thieves become lighter and lighter as they escape your sight. You stand still in the darkness for a moment.

It is silent.

Your eyes discern only the stone of the city buildings and the closed board windows.

A flash of reddish orange appears in the corner of your vision as you instinctively reach for your weapons and draw them from their sheathes. Not a moment afterwards, the blades in your hands tremble as they are struck by a sudden slash.

"Oh, now tha' was nice."

A crimson-bearded dwarf in a white mask wielding two blades appears in front of you and straightens his belt as he sheathes them.

"Ye're chasin' after me lads, wee one. Why's that?"

The dwarf is incredibly robust, however he is obviously extremely skilled and unnaturally talented to remain so undetectable despite being perhaps the rowdiest race on the face of Atur.

The stillness of the grave permeated the air in this district as Tjaden approached the swathe of earth where the city interned its dead. Nobody but the care takers of the ancient and the mourners of the recently departed would pierce his solitude here. The fresher graves were graced with fresh flowers brought by those who could still remember the face of the one buried there...the older graves bore withered husks and wild weeds. Tjaden made his way into the district with a mind to find the most disused graves and offer a prayer to the spirits that used to reside in the body below.

Kal smiled at the dwarf. "I'd like to learn more in the art of thievery, much like your speed," he replied, complimenting the man to his speed. "I figured you could do that as well as direct me to a thieves guild, if there happens to be one in this town. I've heard about it, but it sounds like a mere rumor," he added, leaving him challenging the man to take him to the guild.

"Gwahahaha! Ye think ye're salt enough fer the Shade Dwellers? Ye not even worthy of bein' called a cat burglar!"

The dwarf simply guffawed again at his own jokes and insults. Though he noticed the halfling was not budging on the issue.

"Oh so you're serious, aye? Well then, let's 'ave a lil' fun. One o' me lads noticed an orc was actually allowed inta the city today, not only that, but he was given the paladin patriarch's seal. Bring me the orc's seal between ten and midnight tonight an' I'll consider teachin' ya a trick or two."

He instantly faded into shadow and all went silent for a moment until his voice called back from an undetermined location.

"Ta find me again, jes' return ta 'The Sailor's Bounty' tavern an' tell the Barkeep 'The Masked Beard sent me'. Gwahahaha!"

*Elsewhere*

Tjaden takes notice of the well adorned architecture of the numerous mausoleums in the district. One of which, the door appears open, however it pulsates with a barely noticeable aura that prevents entry. This might be important in the future.

((Bit o' Inactivity yesterday, sorry))

Erron was impressed by the man's size and the ease with which he ended the rogue group's theft, this could very well be the monk "Edge" he had heard from, He chose to approach him unabashedly and addressed him directly, asking without sign of fear. "I have heard that a superior fighter of the martial arts resides in Haven, and you seem skilled indeed, are you the man I seek?" He gauged the man's posture and movements, he seemed confident in his bearing yet not tense or wound up, an important characteristic that everyone who must do battle regularly adopts quickly.

Kal nods, "Fair enough," he says to himself after the dwarf has gone. He knows the Orc and realizes that the Orc is one of justice and violence toward wicked, and yada yada yada. So he'd need to get away with this without him noticing, or Kal would be exiled from the group.
