"He was thrown into a wall pretty hard by an explosion." Jack explained, turning his head towards the woman, "He's bleeding internally and has a few broken ribs to say the least." he nodded towards her, "I'm Dr. Jack Effinsweet, by the way. Please, don't ask about the name. And you are?"

"Drusilla MacLeod, I used to teach history and home ec," she replied. Not that there was much use for that anymore. "Wow, in my experiance walls are not bouncy or soft. What do you need me to do doctor?"

Grigori Murdock entered slowly behind the leader of the ZDF and Drusilla, tucking away his gun and making quick to move out of every one's way. He was of little use if they weren't shooting something or driving somewhere. So he heaved a sigh and approached the nearest trooper. "You got a light 'n stick?" he asked, forgetting that the phrase was something he'd used amongst old literature friends, and this young man certainly hadn't a clue what he meant. And indeed, Murdock received only a puzzled look in reply. "Sorry. Do you have a cigarette to spare and lighter to warm 'er up?" The soldier shook his head and mumbled an apology. Grigori just shrugged and sat down, out of the way. He wasn't going to work unless they asked him to, and at the moment it seemed they were most focused on their medical procedures, so he determined it was best to wait calmly on the sidelines...

But he ******** hated the sidelines.

"Even I know you don't smoke when someones about to be cut open," Drusilla sighed. "I'm gonna need you to point things out to me real quick before we start doc."

Jack smiled behind his mask, "I just need you to hand me tools when I ask and keep an eye on his stats for the most part."

He turned to Sirius, ready to begin once everyone but Drusilla had left the room, "Alright, let's begin."

He began to spread benadine around Sirius' chest, the site of the surgery, and held out his right hand.

"Scalpel, please." he said to Drusilla.

Lilith followed everybody along and made little noise, her grip on the crowbar loosened as they got within a relative safety zone. She was surprised as the group bumped into a few others, but didn't say a word about it, and refused to look anybody in the eye. She was looking horrible, and for once, she actually felt a bit self-conscious about it. As the others started wheeling in an injured Sirius, she stood outside the door, not wanting to witness a make-ship surgery in-progress. Blood and guts was not her cup of tea, she could only drink it quickly and in one shot. Operating was not quick.

So she stayed, running absent fingers through her auburn hair.

Dru remembered cutting open a pig in anatomy class and the way her group had screwed round and played ER. this wasn't too different, just like repairing a bike or a motor right? Taking the scalpal, she handed it to Jack, handle first.

"Scalpel."

"Little lass, over here."

Patrick called to the young lady who had just entered and exited the room where the surgery was being performed.

"If ye'd prefer to be at this gory scene as opposed ta that gory scene, yer welcome to join us out here. I even saved ya a seat."

The tall Irishman patted a derelict stack of mattresses that he was sitting on, facing the stairs that they had ascended. He set down his shotgun beside him and rummaged through his backpack, keeping care to keep the contents out of reach of the other red-blooded male who was on guard duty with him. From the sack, he produced a bottle of ale as he held it triumphantly above his head.

"Hah! Care ta split a 'warm' one with me? Might calm th' nerves."

Noticing a small congregation outside the door, Murdock quickly rose and stepped out. Violence had never bothered him-- which is easy to imagine since it comprised at least a third of his writing-- but surgery never sat well. Watching someone take their sweet time mutilating a body to make it better just didn't sit right in the aged novelist's brain, and so he was glad to put some distance between himself and the table. "Having ourselves a little party out here?"

She turned her head, not sure how to react to the man. Her mind quickly switched gears, recalling all of her psychology courses, and she looked at him with offhanded scrutiny. Something about him made him seem... untrustworthy (the shotgun didn't help matters, of course), she was sure it was just her nerves, but then, she didn't have that bachelors for nothing. Careful not to seem too hostile- best not to make enemies, she shrugged off the offer. "I don't take to alcohol very well" No usual smile, just a straight-up shut down. "Especially when I've been deprived of sleep for two days." She added under her breath, looking away carefully. Then, an older looking man stepped outside, the corner of her mouth twitched in regards to his statement. "Oh yes, didn't even have to bring our own booze either."

He smirked at the younger woman. She seemed a tad bit frosty to the author of the occult, and having a basic understanding of human behavior was an unwritten requirement to being a good writer so he imagined he couldn't be too far off base. Regardless, he wasn't looking to pick a scruff with anyone. He just acidity of the comment slide away. "I see that. Probably not the best idea at a time like this. I'm really not in any mood to have some idiot shooting me in the a**. Got plenty to worry about; let's not put drunken friendly fire on the list."

"Aw now that's just a bloody shame, it is. I've been wantin' ta share an ale with a lovely lady such as yerself since I found out the world was endin'! Oh well. If it's not gonna be meetin' your lips, lass, no sense in wastin' it on me own tarnished soul. It's been a long three hours since I last had an ale, but I'll cope."

He chuckled as he stashed the drink back within his pack as he turned his attention to the older gentleman who had come out into the hall and joined them.

"Not much o' a party, y' old badger, without a few more drinks an' a few more women, aye? Sad ta say that we'll have ta make due with what we've got."

He returned his glance to the girl who had been staring at him with a very analytical gaze.

"Lass, I dunnae know why ye're starin', but I find it flattering! I suspect ye recognize me from my 'Wanted' picture on the telly from before the outbreak. I hated that bloody picture, got me when I was clean shaven, I love me goatee an' those pricks just had to catch me when I was out at a friend's birthday party. Aye, I be Patrick Macfarland, former criminal mastermind o' the eastern seaboard, at yer service," he said with usual flourish and a half bow, remaining seated.

"No need ta get upset now," he sighed, pushing his gun further away from his hands, making him appear less threatening,"No point in thievin' or killin' at this day an' age. I fought me way through jes' as many rotting buggers as you lads did ta get here. Hopin' ta find somethin' livin' an' breathin' in these damned walls before they wound up gettin' me too. Glad ta say I'm relieved to have found you lot. Even if I could find more cheer in a graveyard, no pun intended on our current situation of course. Hah!"

Osiris entered the operation room, prompting them to stop and look at him. His eyes, however, were locked on Sirius. He winced as he saw the condition his partner was in.
He looked at Jack. "Good luck, Doctor. Try not to kill my friend."
With that, he left the room.

In the meantime, one of the troopers was watching the door. He glanced idly through the door's window, then did a double take. Someone had dropped a half a hamburger on the way up! He remembered that one of the other ZDF troopers had had one in his belt pouch.
The trooper opened the door, checking to make sure it was clear as he went for the meat. Wouldn't do if the zombies smelled it out. He bent to pick it up.
A snarl was the only warning he got. A Licker that had been above the door pounced as the ZDF soldier turned, firing wildly. The door was still wide open.

"Dammit with all the interruptions." Jack mumbled before taking the scalpel, "Thanks."

He continued with cutting open Sirius' chest. "Forceps and clamps, please."

Once he received the tools, he the forceps to begin peeling the skin back and clamped it in place with the clamps to expose Sirius' ribcage.

((Here's how I envisioned it: Jack is operating in one room, with the door closed. Outside that room is the hall, where the others are. At the end of the hall is the door to the stairs. That's the door that's open.))

Too late. Zombies began coming up the stairs - a lot of them. The others heard and scrambled for their guns.
