"Not as much as you might think. Especially in high speed battles, it just becomes easier to dodge instead of wasting time and energy to put up a barrier." Relako replied with a small shrug. Those high speed, high stakes battles were Relako's favorites. There was no greater feeling then a battle to the death with a worthy opponent. "I take it then that you cannot perform magic?" Relako asked, looking over at James.

James shrugged "I never tried" he said simplely listening again for the travelers to no avail ".............Damn sand storm" he muttered. He hated it when his sharp hearing was impaired by the environment....It felt like it was mocking him in some small way

"Indeed. I hate sand." Relako said, resting his head against the barrier. He didn't need to worry too much about the nomads. They couldn't through the barrier unless they had magic, and he would sense them before they got close enough to cast in that case. So they would have to go around the barrier in order to get to them, and the two of them would notice the nomads before they could get the jump on them anyway. "So you don't have the traditional vampire's seductive gaze?" he asked with a small laugh. "Well then, I guess I don't need to worry."

James raised an eyebrow at him "What do you mean?" he asked wondering what he ment. Sure vampires were stunningly beautiful but he never really thought himself to be the better ones and never really needed to be beautiful to get hi game....He hunted animals instead of humans anyway

"Don't tell me you don't even know that much about your race." Relako said with a small laugh. "Vampires have evolved over the years of course, but one of the original abilities of vampires is the ability to magical seduce people into doing their bidding with a simple gaze." Of course magically inclined, strong-willed people, or people of the same sex, like Relako, were often less succeptible to seduction, so Relako had never really worried about being seduced by James.

"Why would I have a need to use such barbaric magics?" he asked slighty offended "I dont even hunt humans so I have no need for such tastless power" he huffed quietly leaning against the barrier catiously, testing it for himself

"Barbaric?" Relako said with a laugh. "My 'ten swords' attack is rather barbaric, but the seductive gaze of a vampire is quite a refined and sophisticated magic. Most vampires don't even realizing they're using magic, as a matter of fact." Relako laughed interally at the thought of vampires thinking they were so beautiful that people just did whatever they wanted. He could just see one flaunting himself around town, thinking he was hot stuff. "But it's possible you don't even have that power. As I said, vampires have changed a lot of the years."

James shrugged "Our views of barbaric might be different" He never thought that he really had any magic "HOw does one know that they have magical abilities?" he asked curiously

"Well, from what I've seen, there are actually fairly few races with magical abilities. Usually you know you have magical abilities because, well, your parents tell you or you know your race has magical abilities." Relako said with a shrug. That was something he had never really thought about because he was in the catagory he just mentioned. His parents could do magic, everyone around him could do magic, so he assumed he could do magic. But how did the few humans that could do magic figure out they could? Probably by accident, but truthfully Relako didn't care that much. "Anyways, I don't really sense anything from you, so I wouldn't be surprised if you don't have any."

'Figures' he thought. He wasnt born a vampire and he never knew his creator so he never knew if he had an magical proporties "Guess the only thinkg I have magic wise is Murasame" He said with a slight sigh. He wasnt dissapointed but that didnt keep him from thinking about it

"Well your lack of magical energy could also just be the result of your powers lying dormant." Relako said with another shrug, standing as the billowing wind began to die down. "But I wouldn't dwell on it if I were you. If you had any magical powers, they probably would have shown themselves by now. You're pretty old, after all." Relako always liked crushing people's spirits. He got their hopes up, then put them down almost in the same breath. "Looks like the storm is dying down."

James smirked slightly "Well that doesnt keep me from thinking about it" he got up slowly "And I think I look pretty young for being more than a century old" he joked. Still the magic thing got to him but he firgured he's let it go for now and look at it later. "Finally" he said hearing the storms rage lose energy

"I didn't say you looked old, just that you were." Relako said with a small laugh as the sandstorm finished and he let his barrier drop. "That's one good thing about sandstorms. They come quick and howl ferociously, but they die quick too. Well, can you still hear the nomads?" Depending on which direction the nomads had been coming from, they could either still be in the storm or already on the move. Either way, Relako still couldn't see them, so he would have to depend on James's ears for now.

James nodded "That I will agree with. Sand storms make themselves known powerfully and quickly" He said clamly brushing the sand that collected on him as he stood. He listened again "Thy're trying to unbury themselvs" he chuckled "The storm suprised them a bit"

"Well they aren't very good nomads then, are they." Relako said with a small laugh. "Let's go say hello to them. Lead me." They were getting no where fast, so it was probably just faster to go meet the nomads on the way. Plus, the faster they met the nomads, the faster they could get out of this sand.
