Rhaim closed up the first book having absorbed the basic knowledge about the purpose of the technique itself. He leaned back in his chair, shut his eyes tight, and stretched his arms out wide to either side. The boy then let his arms hang lifeless by his sides at he tilted his head back. He stayed in that position for a few seconds to simply let his mind digest what he had just read so that he didn't dump the information as soon as he started the next text. Once completed he brought his attention and hands to a rather old looking scroll. Upon unraveling it he set his fingers on the words and began to take in what knowledge it offered him.

Rhaim pressed onwards through the reading on the brief history of the Kekkai Hojin and its founder. Apparently the original creator of the technique had been a shinobi that retired into the world of farming. He soon found that nearby woodland creatures had a fondness for the taste of his vegetables. Eager to stop the invasion of his crops the man had gleaned from his neighbors, farmers of many generations, on small traps to set up to keep the pests out. However these proved to do little in the way of deterring the animals as they had encountered them numerous times. Thus in a mad fit of rage the man set up exploding tags to be activated by the crossing of latent chakra inherent in all living things. The result was the Kekkai Hojin as it is now known and the man being arrested for animal cruelty.

Rhaim slowly pushed the scroll away from him on the tabletop. The contents of such a thing, he felt, should never be looked upon by an aspiring shinobi. The thought that he was actually eager to learn a technique devised by a man that blew up rabbits was a bit much for the boy. After giving the scroll a stare down for several moments he finally worked up the courage to fully roll it back up and set it besides the book he had finished previously. In an odd way he hoped that more people would read the story so that they might glean ways in which to inspire themselves for jutsus. However just trying to learn the ones already in existence was hard enough. With that in mind he reached for the last scroll documenting the tactical successes of the technique.

Rhaim was so far rather impressed that there were enough documented accounts of the Kekkai Hojin being used to warrant a single page of paper, let alone the medium scroll that was filled. Unfortunately there were no images or diagrams to accompany the text. Though it did cite the picture that was drawn on the actual jutsu scroll itself. The which definitely pleased the young Genin. What it did have a large quantity of were reports on how the technique had been used and successfully kept pursuing enemy from being able to catch up with retreating forces. There were only a couple of accounts of it being used as an early warning system but all cautioned that the load explosions may bring more unwanted attention. The Nara continued through the words as they began to lead into the most common failures of the technique.

Rhaim closed up the scroll after he finished the last entry on lessons learned from failed uses of the Kekkai Hojin. All in all he felt rather well knowledgeable about a technique that he had only heard and read about. However that was not the boy's primary focus at the moment and the sound of the Academy bells signaling the beginning of class reminded him of such. The teen made sure to gather up his reference materials and take them back to their respective places on the shelves. With that complete he made his way out the door, stopping to hand off the writing supplies that he didn't need to the man at the front desk. The Genin still needed to purchase supplies so that he could finish up his work that he had started earlier in the day.

Rhaim came into the second most familiar building in the village for him with hands deep in his pockets. His eyes were squinting due to the increased sunlight for the time of day and he still smelled of tree sap and wet grass. The boy made his way past the front desk and just barely made enough eye contact with the man behind it to ensure that he knew the Nara was a shinobi. The Genin made his way lazily back towards the room with basic jutsu techniques. He stopped at a scroll to place his hand on it to verify that he was of rank to see at the first room of the area. Trying to get to anything beyond a C rank jutsu would be off limits to him.

After several minutes of searching the boy came across the scroll that he was looking for. He shuddered slightly as he held it in his hand before making his way over to a desk to begin studying it.

Rhaim, despite his earlier resoluteness to study found that he could no more open the scroll, let alone read it over. Just looking at the title of the technique contained within was enough to raise the boys' heart rate. Images of long suppressed nightmares caused by his Genjutsu Kai training dashed about his mind. Though it had been well over a year since that scarring time, the teen could feel the distress clear as ever. He hadn't truly begun to even think on the fact that he would be using the technique on others. He was still hung up on the memories with his hands holding either side of the scroll.

Finally he pushed himself slightly away from the table and leaned his head back. With his eyes locked on the ceiling he took a deep breath trying to get past his self imposed block. His heart still racing, the Genin took focus of the scroll again, intent on learning the genjutsu.

Rhaim couldn't tear his mind away from the horrifying images of his past experiences with genjutsu. Not even long enough to open the scroll up to read the first word of it. He knew he needed to get a grip but it was still something that he hadn't quite come to terms with. It had been hard enough for the entire team of that time to come to terms with the fact that they were no longer living inside of their own minds. The Nara completely lifted himself from his seat and turned away from the reading. After several long deep breaths he sat back down with his eyes tightly closed. He told himself over and over that it wasn't going to happen again before opening his eyes to attempt the reading.

Rhaim still could not wrap his mind around doing anything other than thinking about the demons of his past. Every time he looked down at the words printed onto the seal of the scroll he was reminded of the horrors he endured. He was starting to become short of breath in the brief period that his hands trembled on the sides of it. Once more he had to remove himself entirely from being seated at the table in order to regain focus and clarity. The teen mentally reminded himself that he was not stuck in a genjutsu and that just studying the contents of the scroll would not do such a thing to him. He tried to rationalize that researching and learning the technique would ultimately help in making sure that such an ordeal never came over him again.

Rhaim finally suppressed the images of his past long enough to get the scroll open and begin reading the first few lines. He was however in way feeling more comfortable with the situation and continued to tremble slightly. Despite the fact that the opening portion of the Magen Narakumi no Jutsu only explained that it was a Genjutsu, he almost felt as if the technique would jump out of the scroll and consume him. It would not have surprised the teen in the least to find that his reading of the text was in and of itself only in his mind. With a deep breath he traced over the words of the jutsu and began inching his hand closer to unfurling more of the scroll.

Rhaim slowly let out each breath between his lips while still inhaling through his nose as usual. He could feel every muscle in his body tighten worse than after any run he had done as he continued to open the Genjutsu scroll. The mere thought of reading through it still frightened him and actually doing it was not helping him in the least. His eyes were as wide as they could be, which was quite painful given just how often he squinted throughout the day. On the carpet his left foot tapped it's heel violently without any sign of ceasing. Even with all of his body telling him to stop, the young shinobi pressed on with his self inflicted training. He wanted to know what it was that truly caused him so much distress.

Rhaim just couldn't handle reading up on too much of the genjutsu in one go without having some level of breakdown. That and the words had become blurred from how violently his hands were shaking that were holding the scroll. Thus with a large breath the boy forced himself back from the table and the evil that he had placed upon it. He paced about the small study area of the jutsu section of the library taking many deep breaths while running his hands through the thick mess of hair on his head. The degree of stress that he was putting himself through was not something that he was used to and therefore did not truly know how to cope with or get over it. At that an idea came to the teen. One that stopped his pacing and brought him back to the scroll to continue reading.

Rhaim was still held frozen in front of the scroll without being able to further his research on the genjutsu. Though most of the shaking in his hands had subsided his feet still beat against the floor and his breaths came in uneven gasps. The boy truly wanted to learn everything that the scroll had to offer and to use it as best he could. However it would first be required of him to overcome the massive fear he had of being caught inside of those types of techniques again. This was no simple task that the teen was faced with and not one that he believed he could be helped with. Fortunately aide from others was not something that he had grown up with and thus was something that could easily be done without.

Rhaim had somehow managed to overcome his mental anguish enough to push the scroll open just a little bit further and continue reading the text. What he found was more cursory introductions as to the nature of genjutsu and the basic applications. The information was very concise which led him to believe that what he was reading was not the first volume on genjutsus. Fortunately for the young Nara, he had been exposed to enough of the techniques first hand that the information dump was not more than he could handle. Even in his distraught state of mind he managed to absorb all of what the scroll had to say. He was far from complete though and he was very well aware of it.

Rhaim pressed on through the words printed on the scroll with his chest about to explode from the beating of his heart. He did not enjoy being as nervous as he was, however he was more than ready to enact his plan to remedy his deep aversion. He had just reached the section the section of the text that explained the origin of the genjutsu. Similar to the ninjutsus that he had researched in the past, it was developed many years ago with a very different intention in mind. The boy could not understand how manipulating the thoughts of others could be used for anything other than destruction of one form or another. Not that he disagreed with its' use, quite the opposite, but that didn't change the shaking in his legs and the sweat forming on his brow.
