Fier plays a character based off of the main character, rather than the actual character itself.
I wouldn't call it a Street Fighter ripoff at all, though. Rather, King of Fighters is a series of games that took a bunch of characters from various SNK fighting games/titles (Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldier) as well as new characters and put them all together in a fighting game. You can think of King of Fighters as the "Marvel Ultimate Alliance" type of game, where SNK = Marvel and Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury etc. = X-Men, Avengers, etc.
If anything, Art of Fighting was sort-of a ripoff of Street Fighter in the similarities between the characters (guys in martial arts gi shooting fireballs, uppercuts and air-kicks). In response to that, Street Fighter decided to make a character poking fun at them, and thus Dan Hibiki was born.
MK got boring when they forgot how to do s**t right. It hit rock bottom at Armageddon, then spiked up just a little bit in MK vs DC but ultimately fell short because DC held it back horribly.
Mortal Kombat 9, however...

Tenkai Matsumoto --'s easy to say about Marvel vs Capcom 2 which never had a very defined story aside from that vague ending you got involving Ruby Heart and whatever that sphere thing was inside of Abyss. But considering that Marvel vs Capcom 3 is supposed to have a storyline as opposed to the previous two installments, discussing what the story might be is still a relevant topic. Add the whole voice acting into it in ways that couldn't be done in the 2D era and you have a lot more to work with. And if it becomes obsolete once people start bitching about tiers, who really cares? Simply put, I care as much about tiers as much as you care about plot. Still, I think we can all agree that Marvel vs Capcom 3 looks really good right now in its initial development. This is some heavily anticipated stuff, so I bet we all have high hopes about what they deliver on. >3>

I believe the only reason Mortal Kombat agreed to make that game with DC, was because they were going bankrupt. It wasn't that bad of a game...

I believe the only reason Mortal Kombat agreed to make that game with DC, was because they were going bankrupt. It wasn't that bad of a game... It didn't look like a bad game, and the story wasn't bad, but MK is actually one of those cases where the story really -isn't- supposed to be good at all. The main focus of MK was all of the visceral reactions from the intense gore, easter eggs and comedic yet violent fatalities that made it worth playing over and over again in the 2D era. Thats what in 9 they're finally giving that sort of fanservice and going back to what was good about the 2D era that everyone wants to see. It'll feel like MK again, without being held back by crossovers.

I should probably go and finish what work I have left out in the shop. Since I technically am, the, Warehouse Manager!
But, first, I think I'll enjoy a nice cigarette, and maybe run across the street and pick up a soda.
Hm. All of the endless possibilities.
