"Really? How bad is he?" Lori hadn't seen the alien since work had begun today. He'd never seen Dari depressed. The mere thought of it worried him. And look at Maia! She was so uncharacteristically grim.

"Bad," Maia began, and then elaborated, "He says his existance is exhausting. And it's so unlike him to shout at Toby..." She shook her head. "Nothing helps. We thought we'd invite him out at first, but that was what caused this."

Lori's brows shot up. Dari shouting? Holy s**t. Yeah, that sounded bad. He hadn't heard the guy raise his voice since he'd arrived.
"Okay. Well. I'll talk to who I can talk to and get back to you, okay?" He wasn't sure how much of his family had telephones. At least his parents did. He didn't bug them often, though.

"Thank you Lori!" Maia gave his hand a squeeze, smiling for the first time that morning. "I'll tell Toby later." Probably in text. She didn't want to get Dari's hopes up and make the situation worse. "I'll go check on them now." She released his hand and stood.

It took a lot of doing. Lori called his parents, he called on Luca, he checked every book he could find on magic and illusion, on the magic that gave entities human forms and the theories therein. He got back messages about family members and clanmates and the level of magic in various areas.
What it all came down to was Breyer.
Then came the bureaucratic work of convincing the Bureau to allow for an exploratory mission for the potential benefit of one (or more, Lori argued) entity. In the end, it helped that they were due for a trip to Breyer anyway and had a new shiny fae ambassador to accompany them.
Lori called a meeting between himself, Maia, Dari and Toby in one of the smaller conference rooms on a Thursday. He sat at the head with a few file folders and sighed, brows raised. "Okay. So. They've all talked it over and it looks like we're going on an adventure."
Dari turned his head up. "What?"

"An adventure?" Maia gave Lori a smile. Maybe somewhere to help Dari? The last one she'd been on had been fairly unpleasant."Where to?" This was exciting!

"Well, we'll be staying in an Irish hotel, and we have the potential for work inside several raths and inside Breyer itself where we'll be expected to do the usual ambassadorial rounds as well as work on the secondary objective of acquiring some sort of illusion magic." He passed one folder out to each person, keeping one for himself. They were full of tickets and itineraries, and the official mission docket, which was really rather vague.
"We have a high chance of coming upon Seelie and Unseelie entities, so I requested Maia come. Seamus will be joining us too for the sake of our reputation and because he hasn't stopped begging me to take him."
Toby opened the folder, smiled, and turned to Dari.
Dari looked back. "What?"
"Well... the secondary objective. We've been working on it for the last couple weeks. We want to get you a new body. Or at least the illusion of one."
Dari's eyes widened. He looked to Lori, who smiled, and then to Maia.

Maia opened her folder, paused, and looked up at Lori. She was beaming. She'd wanted to see Breyer since Dari had shown her pictures of it the day they'd found her. And, more importantly, they were going to help a friend.
"Seamus is coming?" she asked, smiling slightly. He'd probably look good; an unseelie who'd been helped by the bureau. She saw Dari's look. "I went to Lori for help," she explained. "Surprise?"

Dari smiled. It was the first smile in days, and Toby and Lori returned it without hesitation.
Lori changed the subject quickly to avoid awkwardness. "Unless you want Seamus to stay and help with Peaches? I'm sure I could talk him into that. We'd be without an Unseelie, though, not that they really mess with us."

"No, Seamus should come," Maia said. And Luca would have enough to take care of, if he agreed. With the goldfish, Rosie and Peaches. "When do we leave?"

"Sunday night," Lori said with a nod toward their tickets. "I figure that's enough time to pack, and the Bureau always approves of off-time ticket prices. Luca's already offered to pet-sit." And Lori had offered him to stay the time at his house so he wouldn't have to walk Rosie.
"We don't really know what we'll have to do, but I'm assured that illusion magic is difficult but possible. Most of the work with other fae will be between Maia and myself just to get the greatest likelihood of help. Traditional Celtic fae can be just the tiniest bit racist."

"Great," Maia gave another smile. She'd been planning on hiring him anyway. "Should be good," she agreed. She'd give Luca specific instructions--Peaches wasn't altogether difficult to care for, but her goldfish were on a schedule.
"How long have they given us?"

"Two weeks, with potential for an extension considering the potential use of such connections in the future yadda yadda." He had more news, but he didn't want to share with everyone.
"Two weeks!" Toby said, "That's more than usual! I doubt we'll end up with any new issues. Breyer's pretty self-sustaining, but that's more than enough time if we do."
Dari was still smiling, clearly locked in his own mind. It took him a while to speak. "You really think they may help me?"
"I think so," Lori said with a nod.

Two weeks was an awful long time to be away from home--Maia would have to make the time to call Luca and see how Peaches was doing. She looked through her folder, looked up after a moment and smiled at each of the guys.
She hoped this would work. This was so important to Dari. "You'll help me pack?" she asked, looking to Toby. What did someone take for two weeks away from home?

"Of course," Toby said with a nod.
"Are there any questions right now?" Lori asked, "There really isn't an explicit schedule, save that they'd like us to meet with the council at Breyer within the first four days."
