Earendil chuckled and took Andarien's hand. "Sounds good," he said in the Common Tongue. "He'll need it when we get to the Eastland."
He grinned down at their son. "Right, Andarien?"
Andarien just stared up at him blankly. "Huh?"
Earendil laughed. "Come on, off we go," he grinned, tugging Andarien away.

Lin chuckled again watching the two walk away before making her way over to Daeron. She bent over slightly to try and get his attention, he seemed kind of out of it.

Daeron had been watching out the window, his chin resting on his hand, his elbow propped up on the corner of the chair he was sitting on, when Lin approached him; but at her greeting, he blinked and turned to look at her.
"Hello, Lin," he smiled softly. "Where are Earendil and the children? It's rare to see you not all together nowadays."

Lin grinned, well that wasn't a surprise. One of the nice things about traveling together was that there was little reason to be apart (though some might disagree with her on that).
"Miyuki went with River to see if anyone would play with them, and Andarien is with Earendil getting an introduction to Common Tongue. What about you? Normally you're out and about."
And since Iorlas had joined them, with her no less.

"Ahh ... yes," Daeron agreed, his face flushing slightly. "It's ... been different, lately. Since Chansond'eau, really."
He motioned to the chair across from him. "Sit, if you'd like," he offered. "Maybe you can help me understand what's going on."

Lin took a the seat Dareon was motioning to. At least he wasn't mopping, she knew that, that night's events were hard on him.

Daeron nodded and sat forward a bit on his chair.
"It's like this," he began, folding his hands in front of him and looking at Lin seriously. "I'm fairly certain it's obvious by now, but I feel very strongly about Iorlas. I love her. I know it, I've felt it coming since we first met; I know others have seen it, or at least deduced it. I never tried to hide it, I never held it back, kept it from her. And for a while, she was growing friendlier, more open. Especially when we first arrived in Chansond'eau, it was wonderful. But then the incident happened with Ioreth, and she - I think she changed. I can't say how, or why I think so, exactly, but ... it's a feeling I have."
He looked searchingly at Lin. "Tell me - am I crazy? Am I seeing things that aren't there? Or is she actually avoiding me?"

Lin, wasn't really surprised by this. There were a lot of things complicating their relationship (and she thought her mother and father were bad). Between Daeron not knowing Iorlas and Ioreth's true nature and the fact Iorlas has always been responsible for Ioreth it had made things complicated.
"Her sister did just try to severely hurt you," Lin pointed out.

"And why should she feel guilty for that?" Daeron asked her. "It wasn't Iorlas's fault. I know she feels responsible for her sister, but she's already done everything she can to stop her from hurting people. I don't hold her responsible, and I've told her this."
He sighed, almost angrily. "She won't say so, but I think she believes that the difference between us is too great to even give a relationship a try. I know it's not that she doesn't care."
That was what made it harder for him: the fact that he knew that she liked him too, even if it was just a little bit, and that she wouldn't even give them a chance.

The whole situation made Lin want to rub her forehead because she knew why Iorlas felt this, but it wasn't her place to tell.
"That is a topic you will have to confront Iorlas on," Lin admitted, "She doesn't like giving her past freely, and you need to remember that for a long time it use to just be her and Ioreth...."

"Yes, yes, I know," Daeron waved dismissively. "Her and Ioreth, fighting each other and helping each other for millenia. Meeting that woman was the best thing that could ever happen to them, Iorlas says. Obviously Ioreth doesn't agree, but I wish Iorlas would open her eyes and see that she's done all she can for her sister, and that where Ioreth is now is no one's fault but Ioreth's."
He rubbed his arms as if he was cold, though the day was warm. "I don't know. I don't know if that's what holding her back or what. Whatever she was is not what she is, and what she is is all that I'm concerned about. The rest doesn't matter."

Now there was a man in love, of course anyone could have told her that. It wasn't like Dareon had been hiding it or anything.
"Well, don't tell me that, tell Iorlas that. You two do need to talk, because neither of us are mind readers, and we both know the situation between those two is more complicated than just being sisters with a love/hate relationship. It may seem straight forward, but it's not."
Ioreth was family and the only family Iorlas had that much Lin knew.
"Ioreth always follows Iorlas," Lin added, "No matter where Iorlas goes, Ioreth is never far behind."

"Until now," Daeron pointed out. "Ioreth is under lock and key for an undetermined amount of time. She'll be well taken care of. I don't even think that's what's bothering Iorlas right now. But she just won't talk to me."
He was growing frustrated now. Being able to verbalize things usually helped him to calm down, but this time he was growing more agitated.

Lin was grateful her and Earendil were never this bad (of course it was hard to tell from Earendil's side, maybe she should ask in the future). Leaning forward she put a hand on his knee.
"Calm down, since it sounds like having you confront her is out the question."
Though it did beg the question of what Iorlas had done to frustrate Daeron. Lin couldn't imagine Daeron confronting Iorlas and then Iorlas just walking away but that's how he made it sound.
"Would you like someone else to talk to her for you?"

"I don't know if I'd call it a confrontation, but I have tried talking with her many times," Dareon said darkly. "Yes, if someone else could talk with her, I would really appreciate it. If someone could just help me figure out what in the world is going on with her ... or even just get her to listen to me!"
His raised voice was drawing attention, and he cleared his throat and lowered his voice to a murmur.
"Whatever is going on with her, whatever her reason for ignoring me, I just need to know," he said quietly. "I just have to know."
