Madison ran....

And she ran....

And she ran....

There were so many choices passing by her. But she didn’t seem to know where she wanted to go. And as she stood still for a moment she finally stopped in place as she listened to a horrifying sound fill her ears.

There was a scream.

It was shrill and dry.

But it quickly became wet.

It was at that moment that Madison stopped where she was. Although she was a fair bit of distance from where she had left the child. It was as though she was right there with him when they managed to reach her.

…What did she just do?

However, there was a growing sensation that the Doctors that she was trying to avoid were growing closer to her. There was no time to stay put any longer, she had to move. Dashing down the hall, she noticed a variety of opportunities she had. First, there was the wide selection of lockers, classrooms, and what appeared to be a broom closet with something that she couldn’t read for herself.

The rabbit only continued to run to try and find her way out. At first, she attempted to try the various classrooms. However, no matter what she did they were all locked. Everything was beginning to fall into place as it all began to seem hopeless. Out of breath, she continued to try and rattle the door open as though shaking it would cause it to become unlocked. That was definitely not the case…

This...this is my nightmare...over and over...for years...

The quiet voice echoed through the air silently.

The sound was as though it was his last breaths before he had reached his end. Her entire body continued to shake as she than darted away from the locked door and continued down the hall. She was making it towards the large doors at the end of the halls.

With every step that she made, the voice of the nameless child began to sink deeper and deeper inside of her own mind.

...if you stay for too long...its impossible to leave...we have to get you to him...

Shut up.

This...this is my nightmare...over and over...for years...

Shut up.

RUN! JUST LEAVE ME!

Shut up.

This...this is my nightmare...

SHUT UP!

Finally, her hands reached what appeared to be the handles to the large handled doors. As her hands held onto it, the voice of the small child only continued to play over and over in her ear like a broken record that was never willing to stop.

*~*

Madison tossed in the patch of grass in a rather distressed manner. Every few moments she seemed to mumble a few words that were utter nonsense in the grass. But her face clearly showed that something was not going right in the little rabbit’s mind. Something twisted and foul was beginning to come into play.

“Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. Shut up…”

Locked.

The doors rattled and shook but refused to give than the inch required to fill one with hope, and rob that hope in the same breath. But that wasnt the worst of it. The exit doors each had large windows, with mess running through the glass to prevent break ins. The windows were filled with soot and dust like every other window, but the shake almost immediately sent sheets of the stuff sliding off the sill.

For a moment, just barely, the glass window was reflective again. Madison had a foggy view of the hordes of Doctors rushing on her heels. But more prominently she had a view of herself in the mirror like glass.

She would be able to see so clearly into her soulless black eyes, and stare at her whiteish tan/gray blood stained lab coat. And in her hand, was that a scalpel that she was raising?

ITS JUST A LITTLE SHOT!

They shouted, and then it was gone. Just her normal self staring in a dusty sheet of glass attached a lock door, with only a hall to the left or right. The boy was gone, all he wanted to do was help. His voice nothing more than an echoing whisper from the far right.

Madison...

...Madison...

...Madison!

Wait...that was more than just a whisper...

The doors that Madison had within her grasps did not move. She continued to shake them as though they were going to if she shook it enough times. However there didn’t seem to be any luck.

“…No…” She continued to shake it in desperation. This wasn’t right; in fact she was positive that there had to be a way out through these doors. As her eyes fell notice to the filthy windows, she began to bang her fist against it. However, no matter hard she it wasn’t going to move.

“No no no no!” She could feel the tears rolling down her cheeks as she continued to bang after every word she muttered. With one last bang, Madison dragged her fist against the dirt-covered window as she let out a sob. Looking up, she noticed that the window was now reflective…

And behind was the rushing horde of zombies heading her way. With a loud scream she returned to rattling and banging the door. She was on her last moments of desperation. However, no matter how much banging that she was doing against the door wouldn’t stop what one of the Doctor’s was doing.

Madison was trapped.

Trapped like a rat.

ITS JUST A LITTLE SHOT!

“NO!” Madison closed her eyes rather tightly and expected there to be a rather sharp pain going into her shoulder and down her spine for she was at her end.

However, she didn’t feel that pain that she was expecting.

There was nothing.

Only Silence.

Madison was now all by herself. There were no more Doctors, no more nurses. All that was left was the dusty building with her inside of it. Now that the building was completely empty except for her and the darkness, and it was a rather eerie feeling considering that it used to be rather full.

She was alone.

Quietly wiping the tears away from her face she let go of the handle for a moment. She needed to regroup, mentally and physically. She was out of breath from her constant running and being banged into walls like earlier. As she sat for a moment, her ears picked up something rather eerie.

Madison...

She looked around rather quickly in order to find where it was coming from. She knew it all too well.

...Madison...

It grew louder and the rabbit was ready to run yet again. Something wasn’t right about this.

...Madison!

“Hello?” Her legs began to shake wildly as she knew what sort of fate was coming her way. But it didn’t matter what it was, she knew that she deserved every punishment that was coming her way. She was feeling numb at this point as she was overwhelmed with various emotions.

Fear…

Guilt…

Sadness…

And she knew that she deserved it completely.

All of it.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2009 1:47 am

And then there was the echo of something pitter pattering at a racing pace, wet thumps repeated over and over again. Or maybe it was just her heart beating in her ears, thumping away like a race horse and covering just as much distance as a horse in a loop track.

“Hello?”

She called out. And...

Hello?! No we're past hello!

The answer came back from just about squarely behind her. Before she could turn around a wet hand seized her wrist. It was several times smaller than hers, but strong for it size, and no sooner than it grabbed than did it yank her back away from the door.

You cant just stand around! We have to get you out of here! This is just the beginning! Come on!

It was him. The same indigo hair. The same pale skin, but blood covered his hands and their were dozens of small gashes and puncture wounds in and across his arms, some of the wounds were wound in white bandage, while others were exposed and dripping down over his fingers. There were blood stained hand prints on his shoulders, and the neck of his shirt. Cheshire stripped sleeves had been torn, and one of the straps of his overalls hung in front of him, ripped and unusable.

The boys head was turned as if he was about to run but for a moment he looked back over his shoulder revealing the blood stains on his cheeks and neck, and sort of twisted hole where a drill had torn through his cheek, and spilled red even now, down his face and neck and shirt. A length of white bandage ran over one of his violet eyes, pocked with red spots. The other stared straight at her. His lips were a tight line, his jaw set. If there were hard feelings, he hid them well. Better than any child should, which rose questions. Questions like, how? And where did he get those bandages, and why were they field dressed better than any child should be able to?

What? What are you staring at Madison!?

Thumpthumpthumpthump…

Maximos
Hello?! No we're past hello!

She let out a rather loud scream as she felt a hand grasp around her wrist. At first she thought it was it was one of the hellhounds who didn’t seem to clear out with the others. Frightened she struggled slightly at first, but only to be yanked back to where she was face to face with the same boy she had ran into before.

Now how a ten year old was able to have super strength and be able to yank her over towards him she may never know. But she was glad to see that he was alive. Well, alive for the most part considering the damages he had taken.

Maximos
You cant just stand around! We have to get you out of here! This is just the beginning! Come on!

But she didn’t move, not yet at least. She was looking at the various injuries that he had in cause of her self. In response her body began to tremble like a leaf as she focused on every gash that was on his body. Madison knew that because of her judgments, he resulted in probably some of the worst injuries she had ever seen. No wonder she was terrified of doctors.

Maximos
What? What are you staring at Madison!?

Was she staring?

She hadn’t noticed.

Quickly her eyes fell downwards and were now looking at his hand, which was still gripping her wrist. The blood that was dripping off of his fingertips was now beginning to stain her pale flesh. Slowly, her free hand covered her mouth in a rather upset fashion.

“Are…you okay?” Her voice had returned to the rather timid voice that she normally used when she spoke. It was clear that like her body, her voice was shaking just as much as though she were about to fall apart. Sure, she was in a frightful situation, but what scared her even more was the thought that she was going to leave him for dead again. The rabbit couldn’t even believe she did that, but she did.

This boy shouldn’t be helping her at all.

She didn’t deserve it.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 26, 2009 1:48 am

“Are…you okay?”

He blinked. Or winked. Without seeing the other eye it was hard to tell. His violet pupils almost seemed to glow in the dim light. He blinked again. And then he opened his mouth. All things considered, despite the sharpness of his tone when he responded, or his choice of not so kind, and not so gentle words. The boy was still being exceedingly kind.

I'm downright appley. No. Really. Do I look okay?

He shook his head side to side sending his indigo hair waving in either direction before his head drooped slightly, vines of indigo fell over his eyes and he mumbled something just below his breath. Something which the boy himself was likely sure no one would be able to hear, save himself. Something which might as well have been average volume talk the owner of ears as large as Madison's. The boy said something which sounded very much like.

If you didnt look so much like her...

And then, with a flick of his head his hair moved aside, his eye sharpened like a knife back on Madison, his mouth opened, and then from either side of the hall came a loud screeching bell. It echoed like thunder. Classroom doors, once locked, flung open one at a time, from the doors farthest down the hall, steadily, closer and closer. Shuffling like zombies, the Doctors poured out of them.

Damnit! We dont have time for this, come on!

And he was moving, his hand around her wrist. The boy was strong, for a boy. But if she resisted, if she tugged away, with the wet nature of his grip she could slip easily free. If she did not, he would race her down the hall she had just run up, and to the janitors closet, which he would immediately fling up, pull her into, and close...with any luck...behind both of them.

Suddenly they were surrounded by the smell of bleach, mildew, and detergent. Mops, brooms, and a few dozen dustpans made the closet an awkward place, but there was just enough room for two people to squeeze, between the tools and the wooden wall rack holding various cleaning instruments and the door.

Bang! Bang! Bang! The sound of doors slamming open drew ever closer, the boy crouched low and signaled with a wave for Madison to do the same. His small stubby finger moved to his lips...feet could be heard shuffling mere feet outside the door.

Maximos
I'm downright appley. No. Really. Do I look okay?

“Sorry...” Madison’s eyes fell to the ground sadly; he did have a rather sharp tone when he spoke. However even while she looked down, she was able t hear the rest of his statement.

Maximos
If you didnt look so much like her...

Her eyes looked up yet again right as he turned his head sharply back at her. For that moment the two of them looked at one another and Madison wish she knew what she could say. What was there to say if the only reason he was helping her was because he was in a binding contract with her appearance? At least, that’s what she got from his statement that he had just made.

Her ears perked up even more as she heard shuffling beginning to come down the hallways in a steady pace.

The Doctors were back.

Maximos
Damnit! We dont have time for this, come on!

Again his hand was tightly around her wrist as the two of them continued to move down the hallway. She didn’t tug away from him; she had learned her lesson from last time. There were many twists and turns but Madison did her best to keep up with the little boy that had her wrist in hand. But she wasn’t going to let go, she didn’t want to let go.

Madison could here the footsteps drawing closer with every step that they made down the hallways. For her they seemed to be a lot closer than they were in reality due to her long snow-white appendages. Gulping, they continued to move.

Finally, the two of them reached what appeared to be a closet, and the young boy quickly opened it in order for them to be able to wonder inside to be safe. All around them the two of them seemed to be absolutely surrounded between various cleaning instruments within the closet.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

I must be brave
Come, come what may...

Her body began to shake once again as they continued to wait around in their small sanctuary. She watched the other boy crouch down and she quickly followed to do the same. This boy seemed to know what he was doing, so it was best to follow. The two of them could here each of the doors slamming as the eager monstrosities continued to search for where the two of them went.
Can I be saved?

BANG!

Shuffle Shuffle.

BANG!

Shuffle Shuffle.

BANG!

The shuffling was now outside. The two of them could hear everything, the shuffling of their feet, the shallow breathing that the creatures where making, the crackling movement of their stains rubbing against one another. But there was only one thing they could do…

They had to be quiet.

For as they remained in hiding their performance was still on going. Although they were not on a stage, the two of them were performing the only play that they new best.

The play of survival.

At the opera tonight.

Slices of off-white dusty light beamed in through the seams around and under the door frame. Shadows passed by, as soft feet carried monsters across the hall.

The boy, although Madison sounded as if she had figured out the rules of the game...placed a finger to his lips, and then painstakingly slow, he began to crawl. Stealthly, stalkingly, like a big striped cat, he made his way to the farthest corner of the mop rack. Against the wood in the very corner was a bloody hand print. The blood was still partially wet. The boy placed his hand just below it, revealing that both hand prints were the same size. The print was his.

A set of feet moved by just inches outside the janitors closet door. The boy shoved the wood of the mop rack, just below the hand print and it moved inwards...the wood creaked and moved in, spilling a sliver of dull orange and flickering light out from behind it.

Immediately the foot steps stopped. A second set of feet joined the first. The boy froze, a deer in headlights. His hand dared not move. To far in, and the wood would creak again. If he let it go, it may creak even louder. His eyes darted to Madison, then the feet. The feet just beyond the door, less than a foot away from the rabbit, if she hadnt moved.

Silence fell, leaving only the wet heaving breaths of the medical monsters, seconds passed like lifetimes.

The monsters passed. The boy carefully slid back a square panel, hidden in the mop rack, revealing an orange lit crawl space. Hurriedly his hand made a gesture for her to come over and crawl in...carefully.

The boy moved. He was ever so sly and careful with every precaution taken with his movements. It was as though he had done this multiple times before. As he continued to move the mop rack around Madison’s eyes was focused on the door. She could hear every footstep and breath that they were making which caused her to freeze up.

They were ever so close.

In fact they were right behind the door. With every movement they made she could see it being displayed through the beams of light.

She didn’t move. And she tried not to breathe, but due to her panicked nerve wrecking state her button nose began to flare rather quickly back and forth on her face. She was panicking. Apparently her prep talk earlier didn’t seem to have an effect.

As she remained rather rigid, her scarlet eyes quickly zoomed over to her and she managed to make some eye contact. He seemed to be waiting on her, however he may have to wait a while considering the movement of monsters that lurked beyond the safety of the door.

Shuffle.

Shuffle.

Breaaaaaaaaaaaathe.

The wet soggy breath caused her to tremble even more, as though her knees were doorknockers banging against the old wooden door. Luckily, they were only hitting the other knee. And if she were lucky, the doctors wouldn’t hear it.

Or at least she hoped they couldn’t.

Finally, after waiting practically a lifetime, the sluggish creatures left in search of their prey. Relaxing, Madison slowly moved over to where the orange glow was coming from. With every step that she took she lifted her foot ever so carefully in order to avoid causing a clatter. However, despite this, Madison wasn’t known to be one of the most elegant creatures out there. This took an exceptional amount of steady pacing.

Finally, the two of them were on their way.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 28, 2009 11:33 am

This was a very patient child.

In and of itself that was strange, because children are simply not known for their patience. But it seemed, that while he had every reason to put Madison aside or let her suffer some horrible fate, he did not. Would not. Instead the boy patient waited, with the door held open for her to crawl in.

Inside, Madison would find a short crawl space which looked remarkably like an air vent, and traveled at a downward angle, only after a good dozen feet the crawl spaced opened up into something else. A room.

Halfway across the distance she would be able to hear the door behind her shut, and the metal clunks of her limbs against the aluminum walls, would be joined by a second set of clunks. As she traveled she might take note of the blood stains on the walls, and ground, slightly dried but clearly recent.

Soon enough, the tunnel would end and she would have no choice but to crawl into the room. There was more than enough room for her to stand and walk about freely. The room was lit by a large lantern which spilled orange light against everything. Its walls were made of gray, lifeless concrete and it smelled faintly of mildew, rust, and sanitizer. A trail of blood stains led to a table across the room, it was yet still covered in white, pink, and gray bandages. There was a bowl with pinkish red faded water, a pair of scissors, alot of discarded bloodstained cotton balls, and an industrial sized bottle of anti-septic.

At the opposite end seemed to be a paper wall, made from projection screens, and a stack of nap-time padded mats could be seen peeking out from behind it. A bed.

I found these tunnels after my first year here.

The voice said from behind her, as the boy crawled free of the air duct. He made his way over to the side wall, covering the walls were racks. From them hung dozens on dozens of school supplies, rulers, protractors, compasses, scissors, pencils, pens, even construction paper. Mixed in with that were some pots and pans likely from the cafeteria. The boy stood in front of the rack with his arms folded across his chest, just barely missing the dagger, and a hand tapping his chin.

The Doctors dont seem to know about it. This is the torturous glimmer of hope he left me, when he trapped me so...very...long ago.

The boy reached forward, pulling a ruler off of the rack. It was odd ruler, because it had scotch tape heavily wrapped around one end of it, the end the boy held, as he seemed to clean his fingernail with the corner of the opposite end.

He'll trap you to, if we dont get to him before the dream ends. And when we get to him...you'll have to fight.

He turned, just enough so that the pinkish violet glimmer of his good eye, stained with orange lantern light, faced her. There was a strength in his eye, an age that did not, and should not belong to a child. He flipped the ruler in his hands and offered her the scotch taped end and said.

You will have to win.

A pause, as she hopefully accepted the ruler.

Or you'll never wake up.

The two of them made their way within the tunnel of metal as quietly as they could. Although, despite the fact that no matter how quiet they would try to be, there was still a great deal of noise that could be made as they made their crawling steps. As she placed her hand down on the metal she could feel the wet blood from some of his recent wounds. It was all over the walls too, which cause the smell of metallic liquid to fill the vent.

It wasn’t long till the two of them reached what appeared to have a habitat for someone who was living there for quite sometime. The orange light danced across the room to reveal every little detail that was located around them. There was plenty of blood and medical supplies on one end, while on the other there seemed to be a place where the boy was able to sleep. However, the only thing that continued to lurk within the air was the smell of the clean mixed with the smell of aging metal with a dash of rotten materials.

Maximos
I found these tunnels after my first year here.

Madison’s focus turned to see the boy standing in front of a rack of supplies. Her eyes however continued to exam each of its contents. Although it may appear to be school supplies, she seemed to be rather intrigued by each of them. They were rare treasures in her eyes, very rare. Her eyes seemed to glitter with interest as though she could sell them for a good sum of money.

Maximos

The Doctors dont seem to know about it. This is the torturous glimmer of hope he left me, when he trapped me here so...very...long ago.

She quickly snapped back into reality as he stood back in front of her with a special ruler in his hand and his back turned to her. She was curious what he was doing as he continued to face the opposite direction.

Maximos
He'll trap you to, if we dont get to him before the dream ends. And when we get to him...you'll have to fight.

He turned to show his face at her yet again. There she saw it as he spoke, it was his strength. Madison knew this boy was different and she knew there was something different about him. But it wasn’t till she was staring him in the eye that she could truly see it. His eyes shown out that there was definitely a lot of confidence within his eyes, a lot more than she had within herself. It was strange; she wished she knew more about him. As he finished his statement he twirled the ruler in order to have the scotch-taped end pointed at her.

Maximos
You will have to win.

“I can’t fight him! He’s probably a lot more stronger than me.” Madison looked rather nervously at him. It was clear that she wasn’t very confident about her fighting abilities, which would probably mean their end.

“I am a terrible fighter.” She looked sadly towards the ground.

Maximos
Or you'll never wake up.

This statement caused her to look up from where she was staring and at the small boy. That was a scary statement that he just made to her. If she didn’t do it, she’d never see some of the most important people in her life ever again. There wouldn’t be anymore tea parties with Max, there wouldn’t be anymore games with Rasilyn, and there wouldn’t be anymore trips to the park with Shin. It seemed that she really didn’t have a choice in the matter.

Sighing, she reached forwards and grabbed a hold of the ruler.

“I’ll do it…but…” She paused for a moment as she pulled the ruler closer to her.

“What will happen to you?”
PostPosted: Tue Apr 28, 2009 8:56 pm

That last question of hers held a lot more weight that she had likely meant it to. But boy looked her in the eye, one violet orb staring into one red pool. There was a twitch in his shoulders, and his knees locked as if resisting an honest physical pressure.

I...

He started to answer, before his mouth and lips flattened into a thin purplish line. His lips were the color of a drown victim, or a very cold man. They had been that way since she met him. But only know did his face match the cold those lips displayed. What she had said earlier, her doubts, and fears. They hadnt effected him, they washed over him as if he was a tiny pillar of strength, and they were nothing more than wind.

But with this he cracked. She had grabbed the ruler, and pulled it close. The boy broke eye contact, and as he turned back to the supply wall he said.

That doesnt matter. We need to set you free.

And without another word, or warning, he began pulling things from the rack. At first, the items seemed common, but each one of them was different in some odd shape or way. First was a belt, clearly made of arts and crafts string. For example, he pulled down two protractors, two half circles, but their were weird ripples on their flat edges. He ran them along the construction paper...and they cut it, as easily as razors. He laced both protractors into the belt. He pulled out several pencils. Each were sharpened on both ends, with one or two erasers added to their end. He laid the whole group out over his arm, where each of the pencils miraculously balanced, laying even across his small arm without falling. They were balanced...like throwing knives.

Your going to need weapons.

He said, sticking the pencils in the belt. They fit perfectly. Next he pulled a set of scissors. He held the two scissor legs in both hands, with the belt draped over his shoulder, and then pulled. The scissor popped free at the center. He twirl both legs, like blades in both hands before snapping it back together, and slipping it into the belt with a nod. Then he offered the belt to Madison.

Here. And your going to need this...

Now, hanging from the rack were several pots and pans. They seemed usual, until he grabbed a pot and pulled it from the rack, and as it moved, it seemed to drag all the other pots with it, and a few of the pans. It didnt make sense at first, until the boy held the assortment up to Madison.

One large pot, clearly went on the head. A set of colanders made spaulders, two pans were in the front and back, one flat, one small with two curved pan over the chest. , layers on layers of construction paper, glued to itself made thick padded spaces between the plates. Plates of armor. Oddly enough, the curves of the armor seemed designed for a female figure. But the boy was definitely not female.

What was more, was that when the first suit of armor was pulled off the rack, it became clear there was another set beside it. He grabbed a second ruler, from what was clearly now revealed to be a weapons rack...it matched very much the one in Madison's hand. While offering her the first set of armor, he gestured to the projection screen and bed in the back of the room and said.

Take it, she was about your size. You can change in my room.

Maximos
I...

Madison looked more closely at the boy as he attempted to answer his question. She wasn’t trying to pry, but she didn’t want to leave him again. He had helped her out ever so much when really she didn’t deserve any of it. Before he was able to completely his sentence, he moved onto the wall. Again she received the cold shoulder.

Maximos
That doesnt matter. We need to set you free.

“Right.” She was sounding rather nervous about the situation that she was about to face. But he was preparing her for battle. He began to lace the collection of valued treasures that she had been eyeing earlier a long the belt as well as providing demonstrations with each item. He was ever so graceful as he showed off each of the items. And deep down she knew that she wasn’t going to be able to do the same. Even if she tried her hardest, she was going to fail.

Maximos
Your going to need weapons.

That was very true!

Weapons seemed to be a rather good idea considering that she was going into battle against a faceless creature. He continued to place various items into various slots on to the belt. Everything was a perfect fit; from the details of the blades, down to the places where the protractors belonged. Everything seemed to be perfect. Slowly he offered it to her.

Maximos
Here. And your going to need this….

Slowly she took the belt within her hands and looked at it. But before she was even able to show his gratitude, the young boy was off yet again. This time he was gathering the collection of pots off of the wall, but what she hadn’t notice was the collection of construction paper placed onto the inside to create the form.

Madison stopped and took notice of another set of armor that sat rather solemnly on the rack. It seemed to have seen it’s day of battle, and it also seemed to have its fair share of war wounds located within the construction paper. The boy soon returned back to her and handed her the armor collection.

Maximos
Take it, she was about your size. You can change in my room.

Standing still for a moment Madison held onto the collection of war material that she was given. Her hands firmly gripped onto the pans as she continued to hold onto it.

“You mean…the one who I look like.” She quietly raised her head up and looked at him. It was an honest question, and she had finally managed to piece things somewhat together now. However, she still didn’t know the whole story on what had occurred her. And still she had no name on which she was to call him by.

Instead of waiting for an answering, Madison quickly moved into the boy’s room in order to change into her newly gained items. Although, every inch of her existence was itching to find out more, she knew that she needed to get moving for the dream was drawing close to it’s end.

With as much care and grace as she could, the girl slipped into the suit of armor. However, rather than being a delicate process, the armor seemed to clang around rather loudly as she began to piece it together against her body. Her ears practically winced in pain as the sound was amplified in her ears. But the important thing was the fact that she managed to get it on. The collection of kitchen attire seemed to fit rather well considering that it belonged to someone else at one point.

Once managing to be properly fitted, she placed the belt around her hip in order for her weaponry to be in easy access. Everything seemed to be just right. Even though every movement she made sounded rather irritating considering that the pans weren’t exactly quiet. However, it wasn’t long till she managed she figured out how she was supposed to move.

Stepping out from the shroud of the projection screen Madison posed slightly in order to expose the fit that the armor provided. She felt a little silly wearing all of the supplies, however she was completely aware of the reasoning she was wearing the attire.

“Do I have it on all right?” She fiddled with the belt a bit to make sure everything was in order. But really, she wasn’t fiddling the belt to adjust it properly; this young girl was adjusting it because she was worried sick.

This could only end in one way.

Otherwise, it would mean a bad end for her fairy tale.

And that was something she couldn’t give up.

Not yet anyways.

“You mean…the one who I look like.”

The boys eye snapped back on her as if she had just spoken the true name of god. His gaze was intense and wide, his pupil was a violet dot floating in a sea of white, surrounded by darkest black sleepless bags, which seemed to only make his good eye stand out all the more.

He looked at her like she was impossible. Like she wasnt, couldnt, or shouldnt exist. This was the look you gave if a person suddenly grew a third head, or you found a unicorn. It was stoic, and strong, and glacial.

But the ice was melting, face softened, the gaze shifted away. He didnt look at her anymore. And she wasnt waiting for his answer, which was good because it was not coming.

Silence followed. Outside the projection screen tent she might have heard a few ruffles and a few clangs for a moment. And then quiet. The boy, dressed in a similar suit of armor, adorned with a similar series of weapons and holding something in his hands. It was square, with a thick black frame, reflecting orange tint. It was a picture. It was a picture of a girl who had to be the very spitting imagine of Madison, only she had no bunny ears, and no buck teeth, and she looked roughly ten or so years younger. The girl in the picture was the boys age, but the picture was worn yellow around the edges proving it was quite old. Years old. But he was still the same age...

Damnit Alice...

He said, his eyes glinting orange as tears welled up. Frustration pouring from his whispered tone.

What would you do? Why did you--

“Do I have it on all right?” She fiddled with the belt, making the armor jingle and clang. The boy turned to face her, his hands instinctively smacked the picture face down on the table.

Yes. Yes it looks fine.

He said hurriedly, trying to disguise the act of wiping away a tear as rubbing a sleepy eye. And then trying to bury that under small talk...

How does it fit?

Now despite what the boy was saying to himself and the picture. Madison could hear the entire conversation as though she were right there beside him. She wasn’t meaning to ease drop, but the curse of her large ears seemed to manage to pick of everything. Apparently whomever she reminded him of, she was very important to him like a best friend, maybe even a sister.

Once she did make her exit after fiddling with the material she took notice of that he did in fact slap something onto the table. A piece of paper. However, the two of them began to engage in small talk. Everything seemed to be in order when it came to the attire. She blinked as she noticed that there were tears forming in his eyes.

How does it fit?

“It’s pretty good.” She smiled sincerely at him as the two of them stood face to face with one another. The stonewall was beginning to crack. A small part of her wanted to go up and attempt to comfort him. But she knew that wasn’t sure if it was her place. He was very distant to begin with, and he didn’t intend to let her in at all.

“Are you sure…you are okay?” Well, there was no harm in trying.
