in a similar case of odd range, dreaded Sternguard ap3 rounds are 18" range - and conversely kraken bolts get 30" - eat this tau xenos!

I do not fear overpowered ogryns, I just love the looks on the faces of these losers when their heaviest units eat the duel demolisher cannon onslaught. These updated ogryns will be no different. I only know one guy with ogryns..... oh wait, I'll be long gone before he gets the new codex. Basic training in less than a month now... too bad so sad. I guess I can trounce him while on leave...
And an 18" hellgun is totally cool. Maybe a decrease in range will shut up the whiners. It's about time that the guard got a decent hand-held weapon, and a short-range armor-eater totally fits the bill.

The imperial guard will be given a reason to fear a 10 man strong down-town nob biker unit~ ;D
I'm gettin' pretty thrilled about the new IMP codex tho'... Gives me a reason to dust off the imperial guards I got myself. wink
And I might concider getting some ogres as well, I've always been a fan of them, but never got to use them... >:

Jason Da Psycho And then theres a little thing called Overkill..... Just a word and a sure win, if nothing else. I've played both Space Marines (Black Templar) and Imperial Guard (Death Korps) and when I did my friends feared my Imperial Guard far more than my Space Marines. A good Imperial Guard player knows that the Imperial Guard is a mixture of pure fire-power, numbers, and tactics. I've been rushed by Tyrannids, Necrons, Eldar, and Orks and the closest I had ever come to losing was when someone put a single wound on my Commissar Yarrick, in which case a heavy gun team and a Basilisk made short work of everything else to compensate for my discontent with the previously mentioned wound. Again, it's all in what you field and how you use it. I loved making liberal use of my artillery while my infantry and fast attack units mopped up anything with enough sense to seek shelter, making survival a moot point to any opponent. I dare say I was the best player for three blocks, if only because I was the only one with didn't think infantry was a new word for 'Zerg Rush'. (kekekekeke) Plus, and let's not forget, I was an Imperial army. I had the Emperor on my side, which none of those xenos and heretical filth could claim. They were forlorn and doomed from the start if for no other reason than the fact that I lead an army of the Emperor's own. Faith is our shield and zeal is our sword! The Emperor Protects.

I just can't help but imagine that when you play you shout at your opponent that it is futile and that you laugh loudly as he rolls poorly. Sorry. sweatdrop

I kinda got the same picture, but with madman's laughter and stereotypical evil genius lines a la Bond.
@ Balrog:
First and foremost, welcome to the Guild! I'm rocking an Inquisitor avi right now too.
As far as it goes, Guard are one of the hardest armies to play (with old Codex) if you didn't have a properly tactical mind. However, lines of Basilisk fire are a great way to harass your enemy. When I was playing a Guard list for a tourney with friends, I had 2 Basilisks and lots of Mortar teams all over the place.

Or, if you want to experiment on some different rules, perhaps some kind of Heavy Multilaser?
36" S6 AP6 Heavy 6
Or, hell, just count it as an Assault Cannon.
