Noise? That made sense; maybe the ghost was the grumpy old man type to chase kids off his lawn and resented the noise they made. She started to pick up toys and arrange them how they'd been before the ghost had moved them.

There was a thumping in the room.

"Don't do that," Michael warned, appearing again, but only from the knees up. He was trying to conserve energy. He touched Maia's shoulder. "It doesn't like that."

From downstairs, a baby began to wail. A three-month-old to be precise, and on a loop.

"We should probably get out of this room," Michael said. His shins and feet appeared. Toby nodded, but didn't move. He just nodded for Maia to go.

"The glass just tipped!" Dari shouted from downstairs, "It's spinning!"

"See? It's gearing up. Come, come," Michael said, ushering Maia out of the room.

"I think I'll stay here a while," Toby said. Michael used his ambassadorial rank to stop that.

"You'll come with us. You may get hurt."

"You think it could hurt us?"

"The same way I can."

So Toby had to listen and followed Michael downstairs. The glass on the table had indeed tilted over and begun spinning on its side.

Well. There went the theory that the ghost wanted to befriend the baby. It was definitely against It. She was surprised by Michael's touch, but nodded and dropped the teddy bear she'd been about to place.

She didn't need telling twice; when Michael ushered her out she was only too glad to go. She went downstairs and watched the glass. "Should we really be provoking it?" She sat at the table, and looked from the glass to Michael. If ghosts were dangerous, and this seemed like the unpleasant type, would they be able to reason with it at all?

"We need proof, that's why we come," Toby said, "I mean, I doubt there's much good news to tell the family. We can't show them all of this, of course. Just enough to get the point across. We're the most efficient ghost hunters because we have an actual ghost."

Of course Toby felt the need to provoke further and took another glass from the pantry. The idea was to spin it himself, but instead the glass shattered in his hand, flinging shards of glass and bits of blood in all directions. "<********>!" Cabinets flew open. Dishes and cups began flying at the group.

"TURN IT OFF!" Toby lunged over Dari and Dari over Toby, and Michael disappeared with an inhuman shriek. The crying was off. The activity stopped. Toby surveyed the damage. Two broken plates, the glass, a few strewn plastic cups and cereal bowls. Not too bad. Now to deal with his hand.

"Tch..." He had glass slivers everywhere, and not all the small kind.

A thump in the wall. Another. The bathroom door flew open, closed slowly at first, and then slammed. Opened, slammed, opened, slammed. Far-off voices shouting echoed in the air, although Toby knew they had to be coming from inside the house. He sighed and plucked a shard of glass from his hand, which was spilling blood. "Ah, god..."

Maia had been able to remain calm this entire trip, but no longer. Once the crying was stopped she got up and checked Toby's hand, eyes wide. She was pale; that episode had obviously frightened her. "I'll find something to wrap it in," she said, going to look in the cabinet. Regular bandaids wouldn't work--stupid ghost! She found a box of large bandages and went to help Toby.

"How do we make it leave?" she asked, looking at Michael. "It can't be allowed to hurt people like this."

"Nono, we have a first aid kit, never use the residents' belongings," Toby said, gesturing to the kit with his head and the hands he was currently caring for. He began toward it himself. He still had one working hand!

He was gotten rid of most of the splinters and was gently rubbing his hands together to see if there was anything small.

"TCHHH--" Found one! He pulled it out carefully.

"Are you alright?" Dari asked.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine."

Dari nodded and began to clean the floor. Apparently they leaked enough to bring their own cleaning supplies. Blood didn't come out of anything very easily. Luckily the floor was tile.

"Sounds like Michael's still working on the spook," Toby said, grimacing in pain.

Maia set the bandage box down and went for the first aid kit instead. "Sit down," She said. She took it out and went back to Toby, opening the box. She studied the contents of the first aid kit, pausing to look at Toby. "Which do I use?" She asked, frowning in concern.

"Okay, first we want to staunch the bleeding. Grab some paper towels from Dari."

Dari held out a whole roll.

Maia took the paper towels. "Do I wrap it?" she asked. How did one stop bleeding? A small part of her wanted to fret and pace, but that would render her useless. "Shouldn't we clean it first?"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 19, 2016 4:11 pm

"With a human, yeah," Toby nodded. He took a few pieces of paper towel and made one hell of a pained face, jaw falling open, as he held it in a fist. He counted to twelve and let it go. "Fuuuuuck."

The bleeding had completely stopped. His wounds were pink and open, but not bleeding.

"So might as well clean it now, right? Werewolf magic."

" 'Magic', " Dari said, complete with air quotes as he began to clean up shards of plate.

Maia stared. Toby could heal himself? Why hadn't he mentioned that before? "I think I'll be needing a first aid class," She said, sighing and sitting next to Toby. She took a cotton ball and put some hydrogen peroxide on it, dabbing the wounds. "This' supposed to help with infections," she said.

"I don't think I like working with ghosts."

"It's different for every species, but most agents are human," Toby admitted. He didn't really react t the sting of antiseptic. It was nowhere near as bad as the glass, even if it hurt more. The shock of the glass brought it well beyond a bit of a deep sting.

"So this ghost can do serious ******** damage," Toby said, and then looked expectantly to Maia. "but...?" Come on, girl. You could do it.

Maia nodded in understanding. Right. But she'd be working for the most part with Toby and Dari, at least while she was training. Neither of them were typical--and hell if she knew how to give first aid to an alien.

She looked around the room, as if expecting the ghost to have appeared. But what? What was she supposed to say? "Are you sure you're alright?" she asked. Michael had a hard job, seeing him in action had definitely made her respect the ghost.

Valentine's day morning came, and Maia, having stayed up late baking part of Toby's present, was not having the alarm. She put a pillow over her head and grumbled about the clock. She snuggled closer to Toby. She had gifts planned, and balloons ready to deliver to his office (with a little help from Luca so Toby wouldn't find them). The stores made it such a big thing, aisles of chocolates and teddy bears and all sorts of things Maia was sure weren't good enough for Toby, she had opted for a more personal touch. She'd baked his card: a large cookie, frosted, and carefully piped onto it was "I love you!"
