Looks like it is time to put on the "fun" music and get things started. Each colored group has a diffrent assigment, one would be heavy weapons, one would be magic and another would be brute physical beatdown ... I think I get it now ...

Precisely. Gold Squadron is the whuppin', like the Y-Wings. Red Squadron is the heavy firepower and the all-around pwnage, like the X-Wings. There was actually no Blue Squadron in the Battle of Yavin, but who cares? Blue Squadron is quick and delivers heavy magical hitting, like the A-Wings. ninja

Blue, coincidentally being a pacifistic color, comprises mostly of the runaways. In fact, Blue Squadron is only the runaways. So it's more like Blue Wing.
