Cass looked down, wiggling one leg-stump as she did so, and sighed heavily. "No. Whatever's happening, it's not done. Not yet. But even as I am now, I couldn't go home... I'd die of the cold, for one. I hate to think of what's to come."

She shook her head. "You probably don't really want to hear this, though."

Cold... That hadn't even occurred to him. He'd certainly been enjoying the sun since his change, even taking the time to nap on the beach when there was nothing better to occupy him. He'd never thought this was the snake's doing. he had always enjoyed being outside... But the cold. England was dreadfully cold in the winter. Cold and rainy and not at all pleasant; the snake shuddered at the thought, and Thom found himself aching to leave even the cool cafeteria for the beach.

"No... I couldn't go back either," he admitted, shooting a glare down at his misshapen leg. However, he chuckled softly, glancing back up at her with a slight shrug. "I'll have t' face it sooner or later. Easier t' move on when it happens if I know it's comin'."

She glanced down at his leg as he did, despite her best efforts. It was so strange to think of any aspect of her life these days as "lucky," but that was what was on her mind.

"I suppose you're right." Cass grimaced slightly. Her feathers ruffled with her discomfort. "Maybe I should start preparing myself for the inevitable ordeal."

Ugh. What a horrible thing to have to do.

"Eh, I don't know." He shook his head, turning back towards the table and glancing to his neglected plate, more out of the need to look at something than of any real interest. "Know that it's comin', but don't dwell on it. It'll only upset you. Just enjoy yourself while you 'ave th' chance."

"At least then it would be done. I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore." Cass slumped, trying not to look as miserable as she felt. "But it might be a long way off. No need to dwell on it for either of us." She forced a smile.

"Sorry for bringin' it up," he murmured apologetically, looking up. The future was grim for both of them. Might as well enjoy the time they had left with their humanity. "I give up," he muttered, climbing to his feet--or foot, rather--and gathering up his plate. "I'll try to eat t'morrow. Goin' to 'ead to th' beach. Care t' join me?"

Cass stretched a little, and straightened. "I'd love to... but not today. I'm trying to be at least a little productive." Which was not exactly true, but it sometimes got a bit hard looking another giant snake in the eye. "You go ahead without me. I'll see you around."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 22, 2006 4:38 pm

"Ahh, I see." Productive? ...Well, he would take her word for it. "Good seein' you, then." Nodding a goodbye, he reached for his crutch and, positioning it under his left arm and carrying the plate with his right, made his way first to the trash to dispose of it, then out the door, awkwardly working his way towards the beach. The cafeteria was a bit too cool for his liking. It was time for a long nap on the sands.

****New RP****

Tommy's been sitting at a table in the chow hall for who knows how long now. In front of the cadet, sprawled out on his table, are many sheets of paper. The majority of these are wadded up into trash balls, while some of the others seem to have music notes written on them. It is obvious that Tommy has been struggling trying to re-learn how to write with his deformed hands.

The cadet himself looks little better than the wadded up pieces of trash littering the area around him. Pale, with dark circles around his eyes, Tommy looks more and more like the Nosferatu every day.

With a grunt of dissaproval at his current music sheet, he picks up one of the many V8 bottles around him and tilts it back to drink. He frowns as he sees this one is empty like all the rest.

After a good deal of soul-searching in the mirror in his duplex, Ambrose was finally ready to face the world. It felt strange, knowing that he was done, knowing that he was one of the few islanders on this rock that .... was the final result of the experimentation, and to all outward appearence more animal than human.

He knew going out might very well run into new islanders, or uncomfortable questions from the veterens. But, as he's always had to deal with, he can't say in his duplex, or the jungle for that matter, forever.

First thing was certainly first: food. He had... eaten while he was out, technically.... but even the lingering smell of the cooking food that made it to his duplex was more than enough to more than make up his mind of what needed to be done next.

Ambrose pushed open the door to the cafeteria, smiling as the scents reached his nose. There was someone else in there.... a strange man... abnormally long fingers, and - Ambrose's ears flicked back - someone he knew he hadn't seen before.

Deciding to keep his distance until at least he had piled up the savory meats on his tray to judge his reaction, Ambrose made for the lunch line.

It all smelled.... so good. And it had been ... a while... since he had eaten last. Usually he was able to restrain himself from eating until at least he had sat down, with proper utensils. But the temptation to just eat one hotdog first won out... hurriedly snuck into his jaws and wolfed down with hardly chewing.

Finally, tray full, Ambrose turned back to the seating area, one ear flicking to the side in indecision as he made eye-contract with the man and took a couple tentative steps in his direction.

The bat-man eyes the wolf-man the moment he pads into the chow hall. .oO(Well...he's far along...kept his hair though...wonder if I'm going to...stop it...quit thinking like that, damnit. And what are you doing staring at him? That's not like you...c'mon...)

Immediately Tommy's stare becomes a grin and he nods amiably at Ambrose. The cadet goes back to trying to scribble out some notes, but his hands are still making it difficult.

It's not until Ambrose pads over toward him that Tommy looks back up. "Hey there," Tommy says slowly in order to minimize his speech difficulties...damn these awkward teeth, "How's it going?"

Ambrose was reassured by how in stride the man took his changes. His tail giving a small wag as he put a toothy smile to his own mouth and made his way over to the seat across from him, toenails clicking against the floor tiles.

"Good afternoon." Ambrose said with a nod. "It's going.... yes. It's going." He shook his head with a sigh. " Are you looking for company... or are you busy?" He inquired with a glance to the sheet music spread across the table.

Tommy nods a few times in understanding, "Yeah...same here, I guess...hmm? Oh! Nah, not busy," he says as he begins sliding all of the papers into a neater stack, "s**t, I need a break anyway. My eyes are killing me."

Tommy reaches up to rup his eyes, but stops short as he suddenly realizes he's about to poke one out. He pauses for a moment before putting his hand down. "Name's Tommy, Tommy Christian," he says with an awkward smile.

Ambrose sets his tray down away from one of the stacks before taking a seat himself.

"Tommy? Nice to meet you." Ambrose extended his thick paw-hand and carefully took Tommy's by the palm. "My name is Ambrose Maurlias. A pleasure - at least as much as it can be meeting another new person here."

He released the hand and picked up his silverware, licking his chops as he eyed the plate of food. "Are you a musician?" He asked, realizing it was probably a dumb question given the music. "Working on composing a piece or something?"
