well, read the WW2 history about all the specialized variants of sherman that were introduced before D-Day - IG works much like that, a tank for every situation... I'd love to see flamethrower-armed Leman russ, for example, or Kangaroo LR transport. Anyway probably most use will see the most versatile vehicles. Valkyrie is just so cool... insert Apocalypse Now footage razz
I hope hellgun rumored ap3 is fake, because with possible stormtroopers-as-troops that would mean I'd move to Deathwing.

First and foremost, welcome to the guild!

As far as a flamer armed Leman Russ, I'd say to leave that up to house rules. Build a special turret on your Leman with a lengthened Flamer and give it some rules akin to the Hellhound.

As to AP3 Hellguns, it's absolutely confirmed. If you pop back a few pages, we have a link to the scan of the Guard Reference Sheet as was put up on the French GW site.

Wow, it really is a never ending cycle of people bemoaning a new codex for a few months, accept it and move on to the next new codex to gripe about.

Sacrebleu!
So french got their codex first? or just were first to spill the beans?
Inquisition is gonna be furious about guard getting better hellguns... Emperor help me, I saw enough of this madness with BA and DA stuck with 4+ stormshields...
OTOH if inq stormtroopers got improved hellguns we would see death of sisters and GK troops...
Expect people having guard as allies to inq switch to guard with inq allies...
Banewolf - is that chem warfare version of Hellhound? with template, poison 2+ ap3 and no cover save its gonna be ruin of power armored infantry too...
oh what a mess...

This seems to happen to every army out there that needs a good fixing or update. It might be best to keep those complaints out until the actual codex is in the stores. Then it will be just like most other army books, a lot of "oh" and "ah" followed by shrugging and moving on.

In regards to the Bane Wolf: I don't really see what the problem is. The range of that thing is template only, so it might get off one squirt of goo before the opponent can assault it and take it out for good.

The only two units I find unwanted and out of place are the Manticore and Deathstrike. These really are two Apocalypse only vehicles due to their extreme range and multiple blast markers per missile.

Well, when cries of IMBA! ZOMG! etc. subside everybody will learn again how to kill T3 guardsmen and rear armor 10/11 tanks... Still I am considering upgrading captain/command squad to chapter master/honor guard for 2+ save... ap 3 seems more and more popular lately with railrifles of Tau and new hellguns, not to mention revival of missile launchers courtesy new blast rules and free tactical squad upgrades...

I really think the Manticore, Deathstrike and Hydra will be Apoc choices.

They already did the flamethrower Russ. It was in the form of heavy flamer sponsons, yo.
They rule, btw.

Legendary Apocalypse units and formations are not listed in the codex. These vehicles will be available for regular games of 40k.

The Hydra and Manticore are more or less tie-ins to Planet Strike out later this year, seeing as both are AA vehicles and Planet Strike will allow for flyers in regular 40k games.

The Deathstrike is the only one really that strikes me as an odd choice. Overkill maybe even. Or a whole slew of rules are included to deter people from using it for every battle. Firing such a large ICBM can't be done on turn one most likely and when it launches it probably wont hit until the next turn, requiring some planning and plotting as to where it needs to land by then.

I wonder if it has a prolonged reload, because if you were to get two of them, you could do severe area denial. You could clog an area for an entire game. Have one fire one round, and then the other fire the next, over and over on the same spot.

I do find the Ap3 hell guns abit of a overdo to be honest.
I'd hoped they would up them to Ap4, but Ap3 is plainly stupid in my eyes, yes they may be a super flash light, but its basically made Storm Trooper companies a frak load more useful.
A friend of mine has two hundred Storm Troopers, I'm scared for my marines.

Storm troopers were never worth taking for anything other than objective capping and suicidal deep strike missions against enemy vehicles. Now that they can no longer hold objectives they've become a whole lot less useful. They can contest objectives, but what use is that in the long run? By giving them a chance at hurting the most common armour save out there they are being made more useful in my humble opinion. Now you can actually use those storm troopers to spearhead an assault on baddies with some good effect. They are the elite, so they should have a good fighting chance.

Besides, the weapon is still strength 3, so it will take some chucking before you can remove dead models.
