Five months ago, I picked up a book, titled Wraeththu, or something close in letters. The description on the back seemed interesting, and the omnibus cost less than a lot of the other single books around me. Besides, I was looking to pursue a different series. I read a couple pages, decided why the hell not, and went for it. Don't read that series. Please, for the love of god. It's like bad fanfiction, except the fanfiction of the series is better written. Entire chunks of plot are missing. This is the literal definition of "plothole," in which absolutely necessary parts of plot progression and character development have simply vanished into the ether. To top it off, every other page is just another excuse for a wildly descriptive hermaphroditic sex scene, which I really didn't expect. Their perfectly functioning sexual organs are explained away as being a part of their new genetics, as nearly all the main characters are part of a mutant strain of humans. This rampant sex normally wouldn't bother me. I'm me, after all. But when the hermaphroditic sex gets in the way of actual storytelling, something has gone horribly wrong. That, and they had mutant flower-dicks. MUTANT FLOWER-DICKS. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO ******** WITH THAT?! EDIT: And the sex scenes were all incredibly descriptive when it came to foreplay, but the actual ******** itself is, at it's best description, "unbelievable," or "like nothing else I've ever experienced." They even get away with "An ordinary human just wouldn't understand." I will rip Storm Constantine from limb to limb and burn her apparent degree in english.

Do it! I've read a little Twilight to confirm my suspicions, and this is just as bad, if not worse. If they love both series, then you know they're a total moron.

But much more sex. And...magic, apparently? It's some kind of ritual sex-magic, and makes no sense at all, but whatever. And the book has these really arrogant and supremacist undertones. But yeah, there's lots of violence, because the mutants are waging an all-out war with the humans about ownership of the earth and the right to be the only sentient species on the planet. But most of the violence is just kinda implied, or happens to people miles away, or is mentioned in passing. And then I stopped reading. xd
