Shin: your players doinitrong.
Neo: As I hold the Codex in front me (vanilla codex, mind you)
I can see someone doing this...
Space marine captain/master:
Combi-melta right hand
Integral melta in left, with powerfist
Jump pack
Artificer Armour
auxiliary grenade launcher
Uses Kraken and Dragonfire bolts.
this is assuming your opponent will allow to use an integrated powerfist/melta,
and allow your HQ to use Sterngard Shells.
All this regardless, it would be deliciously anti tank.
For kicks and giggles, I would also give him an Honour guard/Command squad
made of pure lascannons and meltas.
"Im sorry, but you really shouldn't even field any tanks..."

things:
1. honor guard/command squad couldnt keep up eh? 12" movement

and

2. overkill much?

Had another idea for the Melta-Beast commander. I'm really liking the premise for this model and am thus having fun coming up with s**t.

This time, have the Commander carrying his kickass Bolter and nothing else. I'd even hack up the bolter and kitbash one to give him a badass targeter, auxiliary grenade launcher, more ammo, etc. Actually, I'd just find a Sternguard Bolter. Then, give him two Servo Skulls, each packing a single Melta charge.

That sounds like a nice idea Caleidah, since there are servo skulls holding frag grenades, why not melta?

And shooty space marine commanders are rather cool. ;D

Definitely. If I ever start playing a Codex: Marines army, I might convert that.

Actually, I need to pop open my CSM Codex and see if I could pull that off on one of my Lords.

But I totally agree, Shinobi. Their high BS is more than enough to make them an attractive shooty-beast.

I just got kind of a cool idea for a kind of aquatic themed Marine army. Give the HQ a trident. On each side prong, give him the head of his combi weapons and put the Bolter in the middle.

So I played a game using my Marines yesterday against Tyranids. While my plans were foiled by having several units near the board edge only to forget that my opponent had Outflanking Genestealers, the main event was my Captain charging a Carnifex. Basically it went...

Turn 4: Captain (with two wounds left) and last Command Squad dude vs Carnifex. Marine dies, Fex takes wound.
Turn 5: Captain vs Fex. No wounds.
Turn 6: Captain vs two fexes. Captain takes one wound.
Hypothetical Turn 7: Captain vs two Fexes. No wounds.
Hypothetical Turn 8: Captain vs three Fexes. Captain fails two saves.

It was so awesome, he wound up too tired to roll well in the next game.

But the captain should have suffered instant death since a fex's normal strength is 9...

Methinks Shinobi has spotted a grave problem.

@Ian that is awesome, i love it when little things charge Carnifexes

@Shino probably didnt even think of that, i know i keep forgetting when i shoot at stuff with my broadsides, railgun is Str10, insta-kill mostly everything ive fought, but yeah, i keep forgetting that rule lol

NAH. This is 40k man, there is no such thing as overkill.... mrgreen

Exactly, there is no such thing as overkill!

Just like the pair of lightning claw/stormbolter/plasma pistol equipped Dark Angels captains. ;D

And I wish I could find the miniature for it...

Really? Shoot. Well, it didn't really matter in the end, plus there's a chance that the first one was actually a Hive Tyrant. All I know was, I was makin' my Iron Halo saves like nobody's business.

Even though stuff might not be "Overkill" they can still be bs, cheesy, beardy or outrageously dangerous! Like the Vanguard and Sternguard veterans have the ability to be.

But also scouts when used right. wink

I've seen some devastating uses of them, both bikers due to the minefields and the 5 strong squads in landspeeders with close combat weapons and a vet with p-fist and combi-flamer or combi-melta. (if they're to hunt infantry or tanks).
