Only way I know how to do color splash ( which I do on GIMP I haven't tryed it on GIMP)
make 2 layers ( one of the layers has the picture you want colored ,and the other one desaturated)
put the desaturated layer on top of the colored and start erasing the areas you want colored!
Thats the way I learned it lol

Everything seems harder to do on photoshop DX

Create a new layer above the main one. Use a grey colour, fill in the bit you want to be grey. Change the layer setting to overlay or screen. Or even saturate. BOOM - DONE!

Look look look look look! I bought new earings tonight. I've had my ears pierced for years but I never wear earings. I haven't really worn any for like 5 years. So I decided to start wearing earings again. : D
