Ruuvan
"How about you answer my question: How do you know so much about me, D?" There was no threat now, but he still kept the sword drawn, so he waited for an answer.

::You ever notice how when the Villian attacks the Hero its scary. But if teamate turns traitor its sad...Ruuvan with his sword drawn approaching the boy...was sad. Not in the pathetic way, but in the "I dont want to lose my friend way."

Tears had already begun to bubble around his cute little eyes as his bottom lip began to quiver. He wanted to answer Ruuvans question! He didnt want to get cut and lose his best friend Mr. Ugwy Ewf. He just found him!::

I-I-I....I dont...I....

::He couldnt find the answer. He knew it somewhere in his head, but it was far away from him. It only came up when he wasnt thinking. It took a dream for Ruuvans nature to come up....He could do it! He could save his friendship! And the tears began to pour, all the boy could think to do was beg. Beg for his life, and beg for his friendship...::

I dont know...I'm sowwy, I-I dont know....plwease dont leaf me alone like big brudda did...I I'm sowwy....

::And all he could think to do was repeat that as tears readily shed.::

The voice echoed around the room slightly, and she was no longer afraid of the boy as she heard his pleas. Rather, she pitied him... he was the way he was, without knowing why or how. He knew who Ruuvan was, and yet had only met him minutes ago. She did not know much about the subject or Ruuvan himself, but she did feel sad for the boy.

The fun could wait for a bit, she thought to herself as she cast her blue eyed gaze on them, wondering what was going to happen next.

Ruuvan was no traitor, he was jsut ready for any other lizards to come out so he could cleave them in half, so why the hell did he start crying? Ruuvan had no idea how to deal with kids, he only knew they had no control over emotion, but this was just going too far into the unknown for him. Threatening D with the sword was not his intention, but he could see how it looked that way, so he sheathed the sword and crouched down beside him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm not going to leave you, D." Ruu used his hand to bring D's face to look up at him, smiling once more as he was before the lizards came out of nowhere, "You just seem to know more about who I am than I do." He laughed slightly and ruffled D's hair, helping him back to his feet, "Why don't you show us where to go, eh? You can be leader for a while." And so the balance was restored, until another beast came out that is, but it would be fine until then.

Vahn Kyonuske
"......."

No reply came from him, as he had completely halted in his steps. The hallway ended and now nothing but a enormous chamber lay bare before him. There was an endlessly rising spiral staircase, ruined and crumbling in several places.

Several doors could be seen on every level; murals and other foreign tapestries decorated the stank walls... however it was not this that Vahn was staring at.

It was what lay within the main floor itself... the pair of slitted eyes that stared him down.

Who dares disturb my slumber...

The gruff bellowing voice would be heard within their minds, stabbing into their pysche. Right in the center of the chamber... was a dragon's protruding head. The rest of his body was presumably buried beneath the floor itself.

It was none other... than Antharas.

*Rave peeked around Vahn's back and suddenly realized that she should have done herself a favor and stayed in bed today* xp
sweatdrop Oh glorious cousin, we are so sorry to have woken your illustrious ness*she slowly stepped around Vahn so she was in plain sight of the dragon, keeping her fan in hand, but closed as she swept into a bow that would have been a tad more impressive if the red head was not dressed in a slashed tank top and long red leather pants....

Can I fix you a cup of sleepy time tea, perhaps fluff your pillow so you can get back to sleep? My companions and I will move along as quietly as possible... we are terribly sorry that we woke you 3nodding *It was times like this that Hono was extremely glad she wasn't human... talking to dragons tended to unnerve most humans, and most dragons tended to disklike humans on principle....She was really hopping this one was a fire breather, and not poisonous gas or even worse, ice....* whee

Weawwy? Ok!

::He said, as a glimmer of hope came to his cutesy features. All was well! For a man with no children, Ruuvan made a good father, or maybe just a really good big brother. D hoped to his feet with a smile on his face and sleaved away all his tears. With a flash the ruby was in his hand, he grabbed Ruuvan's hand, gave a wave to "the woman". And he was off....with a vwoosh. Again he used that ruby as a compass. It was odd, he wielded that giant sword, but as he tugged at Ruuvans arm he didnt seem much stronger than your average child, but I'll be damned if he didnt have a grip to rival some of the most burly-arm wrestling bikers.::

And with that, and a wave back, she followed them as well.

Left, straight, another left, then right. Straight for a good fifty feet, then left. Straight for thirty feet... and that's when the path forked. They had to stop- pick a direction. This was where the extensive network of caves began, and somewhere at the center was the grave marker itself. So the question was, which side?

Left... or right?

The stone said left. They headed down a quite long hallway that stretched for about 150 feet and curved slightly. Unfortunately, just as they reached the center of this hallway, the next fifteen feet of the floor would be covered in runes. This was not good...

"Wait- stop!"

Claire skidded to a halt, her feet sliding slightly against the stone floor as she put on the brakes. Another trap...

Ruuvan had no objection to D grabbing his arm and leading on with the stone in hand, mainly because he would've just walked through the cave until finding the center, so this way seemed a lot more productive, if not enjoyable to place the kid in charge for a bit.

This slight happiness was removed as they entered the corrdior with the floor covered in runes, definitely a deadly trap for the warrior, or warriors as the case was, to prove themselves to the Guardian.
"D, don't step on anything, ok?" He turned his head to face the child for a moment smiling to make sure he understood it was for his own protection, "Any ideas, Claire?" Ruu turned back to face Claire, waiting for her to give an answer regarding the runes.

Eep!

::The boy skidded to a halt. He was so very tempted just to reach his little toe over and touch a rune...but he didnt. He stood beside Ruuvan looking at Claire. Claire had the answers, or at least she should.::

She didn't know what exactly would happen. Perhaps more monsters, or a riddle of some sort... heck, the ceiling or walls might cave in. But there were no markings above or to the side. There was something with the floor that needed to be done, or needed to be avoided. She pulled a hand-held flare from one of the pockets in her khaki cargo pants, broke it open to light it, and toseed it onto the front section of the warded hallway.

At once, the flare was destroyed by rows and columns of seven inch high stone spikes, which came up from the entire floor where the runes were, quickly retreating once the object was pierced. This meant that if they hit one area, even the first row or rune with even their toe... one of them might lose said toe, or foot, or something else altogether.

She hissed as the spikes came up and reared her head back a bit in surprise and shock. "Okay, then... There has to be a way across. Look for something- some kind of hidden panel in the walls or the floor beneath us."

If there was such a thing, and if what she thought would happen did, they would be able to get across- not without any amount of work, or that safely, but it would be a way. She was playing things by ear at this point- if there were no such thing, they'd have to either jump over the damn thing, run on the walls in some fashion for fifteen whole feet (which was damn near impossible), or go the other way. It was exactly like this path, and ended in the same way, but there were no traps.

Which meant anywhere the stone led, there would be trouble.

Ruuvan started looking around as soon as Claire put the suggestion forward, sliding his feet along the sand to see if it revealed any hidden buttons and trailing his fingers across the walls to try and find the same, but he couldn't feel anything. It seemed as if this was only meant to be completed by those who knew the combination of stones, or had a lot of objects to throw, so going the other way seemed like a better idea.
"I say we look around here for another minute and then head back, no point wasting time here and this stone is obviously gonna keep leading us into crap." After this was said, Ruu proceeded a few feet back from the runes and searched the walls and floors they had already passed, hoping to find some indication of what to do instead of having to turn around and go the other way down the fork.

Hmmm....

:: D wasnt so ready to back down from this challenge. He slide his fingers gently along the edge just fractions of an inch from the stone. Its a known fact that the concept of "Fear" is a stranger to most children, only experience and imagination birth fear. D wasnt afraid of pointy things, he carried a biiig pointy thing.

But while he seemed rather dumb, and rather wierd, and probably rather annoying, there was a budding mind in that little body. And it recognized something about the tiles. He turned to Claire, and spoke.::

What do dey say?

::He remembered that she read the exact same runes off a wall earlier, and a lizard things came out. He didnt remember what happened to the lizard things...but he remembered she could read this stuff. Granted, he was new to language, but he recognized it when he saw it. And somehow...he thought she might know what this said....::

Interesting. She knew the translation for these runes as well- she just hadn't looked at them as any more than a trap. Perhaps stating the incantation would make something happen? She nodded and read the runes.

"The earth is tainted- it will not recieve. The air is clear, and full of promise, yet forbidding. The path to take lies between the two- neither airborne, nor earth-bound; neither pure, nor unclean. Find the center and cross the void, or suffer the concequences."

She nodded. "I was right- we can't jump over it or run past it- we'll have to find out what makes this work. Find anything, Ruuvan?"

Of course, the incantation had done something- it had opened up a way to get past. But the question was... which one of these stons had the key to getting across? Surely it was nearby.

From what Claire said whilst reading from the runes, and her own analysis of the situation, it sounded plainly impossible to get through the corridor without finding the other method. D had started the ball rolling by asking about the runes and Claire had made him certain there was definitely a switch or something around here.

"I don't have anything ye--" Ruuvan was leaning against the wall as he spoke, hanging his head slightly, but he was cut off as the main stone his back was put against shifted back and levelled with the rest of the wall, "Erm... that do anything?" With an obvious switch pressed, hopefully not setting off an inescapable trap, Ruuvan waited for something to happen.

::His eyes widened, his face took a look of surprised D turned back to the path. It didnt look at the moment like anything had changed. But just to be sure he turned to Claire and gently tugged on her pant leg while he pointed at the rune floor.::

Hey, hey, you gots anymore of doze flashy stick throwy thingys?
