FallenArchAngel I'm not a Frenh horn player, I play trumprt, but I'm one of the Mellaphone(sp?*) section leaders this year. Anyways I made the sign for our section in our band hall and I wrote Franch Horns in the middle of it, and put all ther horn players on it, including the people that swithched to percussion/gaurd for marching season. When I finished my sign that took me like 2 hours to paint, our third band director came in and told me that it was the mellaphone section, not the french Horn. So I told him, ok, but I put all the french horn players on there, including the ones that aren't marching. He then procceded to tell me that If that was true than I should not have put FRENCH horn on my sign, but only HORN. We argued about for an hour. I saidI understand it's really called just the Horn but we're in Highschool! (I'm only a sophmore). If you went up to one of our horn players and asked them what they played, they'd say French Horn! He even called his girlfriend and had her explain to me why it's just called Horn (he's a baritone player!) but I still just wanted to put French Horn on my sign! I was so frustrated, I told him I'd make a new sign! But when I went to get the paper, he told me my sign was fine, he was just trying to tick me off....anyways I thought it was a funny story! Oh yeah...since I'm one of the Mellaphone section leaders, I have to march a mellaphone spot...but still play trumpet. Have any of you guys ever heard of somthing like that or seen it in your band? i like your story :3 <333 i'm one of those horn/guard people, so i've never had trouble with my marching spot. the only thing i've noticed in my band is the unreliable players marching double spots, two people assigned to the same coordinates and each only playing at half the games and contests. btw, random words of possible enlightenment: should you ever tell astory that just flops, goes straight to the dogs, is less than amusing, and generally fails at life in spanish, just add "then i found five bucks and a guy got stabbed," to the end of it, and your story is suddenly very cool. cool

I only played French horn for a year and a half. But I still loved it. I was the only French horn at my school. And I got to be first chair for my county's honors band both years. biggrin

I've been the section leader every year. It's really odd being the section leader both in concert band and marching band WHILE YOU'RE A FRESHMAN!!! Flattering, yes, but wow, it was stressful...Awesome, though...

I got back from my band camp the other day. When I was there, the band I was in had five or six french horns. I LOVED IT!! Of course, I wasn't first french horn, like I am by default back home, but I still got second. It was... so cool!! The person in front of me had this beautiful tone, I was so jealous!! I'm still exhausted though... we had five days to prepare a concert!!! That's probably not so big to most of the people here... but still, it was exhausting.
I just bought the trumpet that I had rented when I still played it. Me and my friends are thinking of starting a jazz band, so I think I'll double as a piano and trumpet player.
Ignore me if you want, I'm just ranting.

I just started out playing the French Horn. I have been playing the clarinet since sixth grade and the violin since fifth. Hopefully, I'll be able to play it in marching band next season after this one. Maybe. I want to be in a Drum Corp in college so hopefully, again, I'll continue with it. I'm playing the clarinet this season in marching band. I would like to try the trumpet, though. Sometime. LOL
