Sabin was a name that he'd heard used several times since his arrival at the island, though he'd never had the "pleasure" of actually getting to meet the b*****d. From what he'd heard he was one of the most despicable doctors on this rock, I wonder what he's like... probably some creep...
Rex let his hands drop and came to a stand once again as Gaius put his hand on his shoulder. "I totally understand, dude..." He looked into the man's eyes and sighed, disappointed that he couldn't do more to help. "Listen... I'm in duplex 35 if you ever need help around here. I'll try to help however I can." In the end, he'd truly forgotten about rough it was to be on the island. The lead quite pampered and refurbished lives in the end. But it was still hard to be happy. "I'm here for you."

Zach continued to hold his bleeding face in his hands. The smell and taste of the blood was driving him crazy, even though he knew it was his own. Despite himself, he smirked when Gaius confirmed what Zach thought he'd heard.
Grimacing, he stopped leaning against the tree. While Rex and Gaius had their heart-to-heart, he stole away toward his duplex, across the village, without another taunting word, his face slick with red. His tail dragged along the dirt behind him. Other than a swollen jaw and a couple of laughs, he'd gained nothing, and even now the laughs didn't seem worth the pain.

"Thanks..." he said to Rex's consoling. Zach's departure was completely ignored. "I'm in duplex 62. Right now, I think I just need a chance to let this all settle. Everything's mixed up inside... I'm not sure what I feel," he sighed. Giving the lion one last pat - it felt strange to actually come in contact with the half-creature - he turned away and made his own way towards the higher numbers, where his pillow and a blank ceiling waited.

Rex nodded understandingly and didn't even give Zach's dragging away a second thought. Rex needed some time to think, he couldn't imagine having to give that talk ever again after having such an awkwardly traumatic encounter. "Anytime, bud..."
He did his best thinking in the water, so he dirged his way to the river to let the healing freshwater run through his fur. In his opinion, it was better than any shower could do.

[New RP]
Everything was unpacked, and if aspirin couldn't help the pain in Sid's leg time off it could help. Some buried, reasonable part of him knew it was only a matter of time before he did something stupid to overexert himself again.
In the meantime, he sat on a bench and whittled, his cane propped next to him. And as he whittled, he smoked. The first got his mind off things, the second provided his needed dosage of nicotine.
Sooner ir later he'd have to start thinking seriously about all the painful stuff involved with rehabilitation, like not smoking. But until someone approached him about it he was going to pretend his only task at the moment was to turn a block of wood into a duck.

Suffice it to say, Zach was worried. It was the kind of worry that built up in layers, starting with a question and slowly accumulating what-ifs till he could think of nothing else. The worry creased his already bizarre expression with bared teeth and the fanning of his frill. His tail whipped around behind him, further signaling his distress. He'd been spared a vengeful doom - but for how long?
He caught the scent of cigarette smoke on the wind and wrinkled his nose. After being around such clean air on the island (save for the occasional jeep), the acrid smoke brought fresh, stinging pain to his recently reorganized olfactory. He didn't know anyone on the island who smoked. Distracted from his fears, he approached from behind the bench where someone was sitting and evidently puffing away. His eyes watered, and he coughed reflexively into a hand cupping the front of his snout.

Even though Kaveri had been living in the wild for who knows how long, she still couldn't survive without a good amount of supplies -- water being one of the main ones. She already had food covered, and she wouldn't dare drink from the river without some kind of filter.
And she needed paint, too. That was probably one of those things that might take a little more effort to get, since it's not as easy as going back to her duplex and asking for it over a non-functional intercom. An old shirt is tied to the top of her walking stick as a makeshift bindle to carry her things back to the camp. As she heads back from the cafeteria, shirt filled with water bottles and other such things, she does not seem to catch the smell of cigarette smoke at all. Unlike Zach, her olfactory system was practically non-functional. It was probably one of the blessings of being, well, something that dealed with dead things regularly.
The unsteady vulture-woman walked past the bench, obliviously singing a song as she went hobbling her way towards the jungle. "Blue moon of Kentucky keep on shinin', shine on de one dat's gone and left me blue..."

The cough made him stop carving and glance over his shoulder. The sight of Zach made him stare. Kaveri's singing was the only thing that could drag his attention away... and suddenly things became even more surreal. His mouth sagged open, just enough to let the cigarette dangle precariously over his lower lip, but as his mind provided the only logical conclusion he could think of at the moment he snapped it close.
He turned away from Zach, tried to focus on the half-finished carving until the supposed moment passed.
"Least I'm not driving this time," he said to the duck, exhaling smoke with the words.
Acid flashbacks were terrible things, and those bastards had told him they'd stop happening after so long...

The older man's expression wasn't lost on him. New, from the astonishment plastered across his face. How many new islanders were there? This was the third he'd met in about a week. He'd had his fun misleading them, but he didn't know for sure whether the expression was genuine horror at the sight of an animal person, or that he wasn't becoming anything furry or cute like the man may have previously met. Marshall had caught on too quickly for comfort. He followed the confused gaze to the side and his heart jumped at the sight of the singer. "Kaveri?"
"Mind putting that out?" he asked the seated man, coughing again as a new cloud of smoke stung at his nose. He sidled toward the birdlike woman, his tail oddly still save a tic-like twitching of the tip, so that he was between them. Somewhere underneath his genuine care for her, far from his consciousness, was a vicious territorial nature that would protect Kaveri at all costs.

Sid took the cigarette from his mouth and looked at it, torn over what to do. Complying with hallucinations was silly- even crazy- and yet... He couldn't finish the thought. He mashed the cigarette out on the bench and, as an afterthought, snapped his whittling knife closed. The simple actions were made slow and methodical as he tried very hard to hold on to the thought that in a moment the whole scene would evaporate into something sane and normal.
Thus why he quietly watched Zach as he approached Kaveri. In the absence of a cigarette he started to chew on his lip.

"Zach!" Kaveri stopped singing and raised her head, a smile tugging at either side of what was left of her lips. "It seems you just turn up every time I head over here. Not that I mind, of course." And it would probably be in better circumstances than getting paralyzed by her chip like before. She held out a spiny wing-arm to offer the dragon-man a hug.
To Kaveri, this is sane and normal.

"Heh... not a lot of other placssesss to go. Good to see you again." Zach returned the embrace, avoiding being poked too sharply by her pinfeathers and in turn trying to keep from jabbing her with his horns or the tips of his frill. When he let go, he turned around toward the obvious onlooker, unsure of how to deal with him. Misleading this guy would be fun, but somehow he just wasn't up to it.
"What, never ssseen a dragon before?" he retorted, looking amused in response to the staring and silence from the man on the bench. His eyes briefly darted to the knife, which he'd failed to notice before, and was suddenly very glad that he hadn't chosen to mess around with this guy. He felt very weak all of a sudden, just thinking about the recent encounter with Gaius and Rex. At least he'd put that cigarette out. The smell was still in the air, but not nearly as thick and poisonous.

"Sure," he said, the word coming out as a croak. In the end, all he could do was roll with it... which beat sitting there thinking about it. Sid cleared his throat and forced a grin. "I mean like on at least a dozen album covers."

While it was admittedly a rather ginger hug considering how pointy both parties were, it was still rather comforting. Kaveri awkwardly patted Zach on the shoulder and also turned her head to look at the newcomer.
It's been quite a while since she saw her last honest-to-goodness human. And an older fellow, no less. "Don't forget RPG handbooks and movie posters," she added helpfully.

His tail snaked toward Kaveri, prehensile enough to wind its way around one of her ankles. Worry returned in waves. Was something wrong with this guy? Or was it just the usual shock of seeing nightmarish beings in the flesh? The older man's expression and tone didn't match up right, giving him threatening qualities. Zach took another step backward, cautious. His voice became a little flatter and unfriendlier. "Not quite what I meant..."
"Let'sss get the formalitiesss out of the way now. Hello there, I'm Zach." He stretched his wings open a little, then folded them back quickly as though he'd made a mistake. He squinted a little trying to study the expression on the older man's face. "Are we the first people you've ssseen here?"
