December 2017 Username: Nashawryn Student Name: Sylkie Von Stage: Junior
Response: Sylkie stands up and shakes her skirt to straighten it out and slicks back her hair to make herself presentable. “My element is Rhenium. It’s the 75 on the periodic table. It is a silvery-white, heavy, third-row transition metal. Rhenium is one of the rarest elements in the Earth's crust. Rhenium is a silvery-white metal with one of the highest melting points of all elements, exceeded by only tungsten and carbon. It also has one of the highest boiling points of all elements. It is also one of the densest, exceeded only by platinum, iridium and osmium. Rhenium resembles manganese and technetium chemically and is mainly obtained as a by-product of the extraction and refinement of molybdenum and copper ores.“ Sylkie pauses to smile at the other students. “Rhenium was the second-last stable element to be discovered. Nickel-based superalloys of rhenium are used in the combustion chambers, turbine blades, and exhaust nozzles of jet engines. These alloys contain up to 6% rhenium, making jet engine construction the largest single use for the element. The second-most important use is as a catalyst: rhenium is an excellent catalyst for hydrogenation and isomerization, and is used for example in catalytic reforming of naphtha for use in gasoline. Because of the low availability relative to demand, rhenium is very expensive!” Sylkie grins and nods happily at a report well done and carefully sits back down in her seat.

Response: Nym smirked confidently, waiting for his turn. He was never one to slack on his studies. Otherwise, he would be a smartass with not an ounce of intelligence to back it up. When his turn finally came, the hybrid stood up, gold on black eyes scanning the room with a haughty expression.
”Atomic number 21, symbol Sc. Scandium is one of the rare earth elements. It is in d-block, considered a transition metal. It’s standard atomic weight is 44.955. It has a melting point of 1814 Kelvin, a boiling point of 319 Kelvin, and a density of 2.985 grams per cubic centimeter. Scandium was discovered in Scandinavia in 1879.” he told the class confidently, before launching into more facts for the next five minutes.

Response: It was time to give her presentation. Of course she did her research. She wanted to ace her classes. When her turn finally came, she stood up, placing her notes on the table. Birkita already knew the facts by heart. ”Cadmium has the symbol Cd on the periodic table with an atomic number of 48. It has a standard atomic weight of 112.414. It is located in group 12, period 5, in the d-block. It’s a transition metal. The metal is described as a soft, blue-white metal, similar to zinc and mercury. It was discovered in 1817 by Friedrich Stromeyer and Karl Samuel Leberecht Hermann in germany as an impurity in zinc carbonate.” Birkita lectured confidently.

December 2017 Username: Lady Angel Heart Student Name: Winter Stage: Freshling
Response:
Winter looked at the number she had drawn. 105..Dubnium? She had never heard of it before. Suppose it was time to do some research which meant a trip to her favorite place, the library. Once she had gathered sufficient knowledge the wrote her paper she would have to read a loud once class resumed.
"Dubnium is a radioactive isotope. It does not occur naturally so it has to be produced artificially. It is a super heavy element located at the bottom of the periodic table with a bunch of other heavy elements I've never heard of. Both America and the Soviet thought they were the first to discover it, referring to it by their own chosen names unofficially. Officially the credit went to both parties and the element was named after Dubna in Russia were it was discovered by the Soviets. There are currently no listed uses for Dubnium so it just exists to be studied."

Response:Rodium, L cleared his throat. "Rhodium is a hard silvery durable metal. It is reflective and shiny. It's one of the Rarest Elements in out crust making it highly expensive. It's mostly used for the horseless carriages, where it changes harmful chemical emissions into a nonharmful gas. It's found as coating on some jewelry but due to the intense heat needed to warm the metal, it's rare to find a pure rhodium jewelry.

Response:
SnowLily looked at the periodic table of elements and saw she was assigned #5, which is Boron.
Taking a breath, she tapped her cheek thinking about what she had read on this particular element.
"Okay, I got Boron. Which is number 5 on the table. This element is one of the elements that are not naturally occurring. It is created in the atmosphere far away from out land in space, supernovae is one of the sources that creates this element. It can be found in meteorites.
Although it can be found in our land it is not that abundant, although one of the compounds of this element can be found quite common throughout our land. It is called Borate Minerals and is water soluable.
From what I understand this element is not easy to make, it is quite difficult and can be made into structure and installation materials such as fiberglass."

Response:
Dayeon fidgeted in his seat, he detested science class although he knew it was important for his studies even though he had no clue what he truly wanted to do when he graduated.
The assignment given was talk about a element. The class was given a bowl to pass around and take a slip of paper from, the number on the paper was your element. Look it up and talk about it.
Ge got number 109, which was Meitnerium. "Of course I get one that I don't know to much about" he sighed.
Waiting his turn she looked in his textbook and got some generic information. His turn came and he stood up.
"I got number 109 which is Meitnerium. This element is not naturally made, it was created in a laboratory. The purpose of this element is to be quite frank, unknown. It has a a half life of up to 8 seconds and decays into bohrium-274 through alpha decay."
He finished and sat down.

Because there is no K in the word, Po ta ss ium. No k.” She wrinkled her nose.
“Umm. They found out about it long ago and it is very light. Oooh and plants like it a lot! And need it to grow!” She paused, thinking it over. “And…. I think that is all that I know!”

Response:“Thulium,” Billie started bored, “It’s the number 69 on the chart, it is found in minerals and is bright silver grey in color like most of the elements and is soft.” They combed their hair out of their eye. “It is a rare earth metal. It shines blue when excited.” They flexed their nails idly and looked back at the paper. “It usually forms green minerals. It can be made into radio...radioactive isotopes.” That word was hard.
“I guess it is sort of neat and all and I do like the color green so that is Thulium. It was discovered long ago… and that is it.”

It is part of the platinum group and has the highest melting point of that group.” She tapped a finger going through the list of facts and information. Where did she put.. Ahh. “It is the densest element and found in platinum ore, the mineral osmiridium and the by=product of nickel production.”
That was all she had written down. “And that is my presentation.” Sally finished up and set her paper aside.

Response: Kyla looked at the assignment for a moment, did she even have a favorite element? Flipping through their science textbook, she skipped around to the chapters on chemistry, trying to find something interesting to write about. It tried to cover every element, but most of the pages focused on popular elements like gold and silver, or various gases, and she didn’t think that was fair to the other elements. She finally found a small paragraph describing an element called Thulium, and started jotting down notes excitedly. “My favorite element is #69, Thulium, which is named after a really old part of Above! It is hard to find and costs a lot, but can be used to help sick people when they are far away from hospitals. It can be found in certain rocks, but never by itself. It doesn’t like to be alone.”

Response: Pippi was given #15 on the periodic table. Shrugging she looked it up and it was a long word she was not familiar with. She had to struggle to sound it out.
From what she was able to read it comes in two colors and its used in alot of things our races use daily or that is what she understood from what she read. Those who grow things such as vegetables and flowers would have this in their fertilizer.
The rest of the information she did not comprehend very well, this element is to advanced for her.

Response:”Silver,” was actually one of his favorite metals so it was nice that he had ended up with the 47th element on the periodic table. “Is number 47 on the periodic table and the letter abbreviation is a and g. It is a metal that is soft and used in many things, like silverware and jewelry, and coins! It can also go on the back of mirrors to help with reflecting images.” Which was so neat!
“It is not a very reactive metal, and it consider a noble metal because it doesn’t react to air and one of the first metals known but we don’t know when because they didn’t record things back then because they had no writing systems.” Rayleigh frowned because he would have liked to have known when. “And that is it.”

It can be used as a coating to prevent rust on steel which is important.” They licked over their teeth thinking. “It is important for plants so they can grow and for all creatures cause without it you can die but to much of it is also really bad.”
“Ooh and it can stain glass purple which is neat and one of my favorite colors!” Sanlen nodded and sat down. Purple was cool.
