Waking from the night with only one overnight wolf kill was unexpected. Flesh had certainly expected the violence to continue escalating, as it had seemed to over the past few "nights". But it was only one casualty. Flesh was rather disappointed, in all honestly, if the predators had come through with another double-kill then it might have made their daytime deliberations a little easier simply because of the heightened odds at landing a blow on a predator if there was less prey to weed through.

Not entirely unexpected though was the blow to his reputation that came with the first two votes cast for the day. The dragonbuck allowed his frustration to display itself in a coarse growl, narrowing his bright eyes as he looked back and forth between Peep and Bitter End.

"I could understand the logic behind any votes cast my way the first couple rounds, I certainly did not do myself any favors by my behavior. But I fail to see how I've done anything of late to incriminate myself." Flesh heard their words and knew they were making their choices based on intuition. But at this point in the game, they could not afford to make their decisions on a whim. "We have to be smarter than spontaneous votes," he chided the does, his strong jaws snapping shut around his words to emphasize his frustration.

"I still maintain that we need to scrutinize those who have been guiding the majority vote. If they are a predator, they could be steering us all in the wrong direction so that we slowly do the work of killing all the prey for them. I'll cast my vote the same as I did yesterday, Okay Is Wonderful cannot be trusted."

"Loath as I am to cast apparently more suspicion upon myself I have to agree with Fire Made Flesh's point. Okay is Wonderful is doing a rather convincing job of innocence as she leads you all in circles." Neither Nor could tell themselves all day long that they weren't into the game. That it was a waste of time. But they couldn't ignore the fact that they felt relief from that narrow escape.

"I will stand by my vote for Okay is Wonderful," said Nightingale. "Perhaps the evidence is thinner than I thought before, but the evidence for Fire Made Flesh is not any more compelling."

(( exit post for leaving the game and joining the 'dead' ))

I don't feel guilty of anything, she spoke in her mind. They've successfully labeled me with words to guide the prey into ousting me during the day. Such a shame. "Well that was expected already. I knew I would be out during the day sooner or later." She had no regrets in voicing her thoughts and opinions. After all, it was just a game. They'll venture home once the awards ceremony is over.

She looked at Merry Wanderer and nodded her head before leaving the playing field. "Lovely description of my death, by the way."

Walking over to the dead side of the game, she trotted over the line drawn with a hoof since the beginning of the game, and laid down in the shade. Crossing both her front legs, she watched along with many others to see how the game will end.

It was sad to have confirmation that they hadn't killed all the wolves yet but at the same time it was what she'd expected. Still, though, with the murder of Wintershadow a small amount of hope grew in her. She'd been fairly convinced of his innocence because he'd tried to speak with reason, even if he'd quieted down a bit as the game went on. Perhaps now the wolves would begin to pick off those who looked, well, guilty. With Kiss of Death now gone though she was a lot more indecisive - the problem was that no one really looked guilty, to her. She wasn't personally convinced of Fire Made Flesh's guilt - he'd attracted a lot of attention, but in the beginning at least it'd looked like a ploy by predators to get him, well, dead. So he didn't look particularly suspicious.

But she shook her head at him. "I think it's fine for you to scrutinize people who've been talking loudly. "That's a very sound idea! But by picking me arbitrarily you're doing no better than the kin who vote purely on intuition." She cocked her head. "Still, I don't think anyone looks particularly guilty from this standpoint." There'd been plenty that wanted Wintershadow dead, and there was perhaps an avenue of thought there.

She inclined her head at Nightingale and shrugged. "That may be so, but I think we should wait for more information." Where would they get it? Biting her lip, she turned to the group as a whole.

"I don't think we can tell for sure - but it looks like the wolves are beginning to pick off kin who've been more vocal." Optimist thought that was indication enough that quiet people might be suspicious - otherwise the wolves would've continued killing people who didn't speak much, right? But the problem with quiet people was that you really didn't know what to expect from them. "Wild Cry, Bare Trees, Story..." she began. "Do any of you have opinions about what happened yesterday, perhaps? And Look-See - would you be willing to say that reason aloud?" If there were wolves among the quiet kin, it'd be best to hear from them first. She didn't think more than one or two of the quietest members were wolves, but it'd be nice to be actively working with them.

Neither Nor, too, had been incredibly quiet in the past, and the fact that they were now speaking up warranted thought. Their words still lacked substance, though.

Kiss of Death lynched; Wintershadow killed. She frowned.

Wild Cry's frown deepened. "Wintershadow's death makes little to no sense to me. He always voted in the majority. Granted, every kin he voted for ended up being killed by the prey but that in no way means he was a threat for the wolves. Add to that, there are still those in play that have been quieter than him. So, I feel like that is not so much a cause in this reasoning.

"Historically, there were only a handful that have voted for him: Arctic Waste, Bitter End, and Fire Made Flesh. Arctic Waste is already dead. Fire Made Flesh has only voted toward Wintershadow once... But you, Bitter End, voted for him for him twice, and only because of a gut feeling - as you say. However, your gut feeling seems to have been wrong. That in and of itself is not reason to suspect you... but not it seems as if you've been determined to get Wintershadow killed for awhile now."

The buck turned to Fire Made Flesh. "You made quite the name for yourself early in the game. It could be reason to say that you were out to get those individuals as well... and when the water got too hot, you slunk back and made your kills at night. It could just be coincidence that Wintershadow, Watch the Skies (who was immediately killed at night after you voted for him during the day), and Snake Flower, were all killed at night after a vote or altercation with you." Wild Cry appeared to think, "Then again, all of that could be to set us off the real trail by the wolves."

((sorry for the double post, I wanted to give others a chance to post))

The vote was currently tied for Fire Made Flesh and Okay is Wonderful. Wild Cry contemplated the options. He still thought it was suspicious that the first two kin he voted for were killed at night, and the third kin was one in which he had a suspicious argument with. After that... he went silent and then only voted with the majority. Was he hiding something?

While Okay is Wonderful, Optimist, had a fairly clean record - despite talking around in circles. Three of her five votes were with the majority. One of the other others died from a lack of paticipation. Finally, the last vote she had is still up and walking around. Wild Cry looked over at Neither Nor.

Wild Cry took a deep breath, mostly because he was to the point of thinking it was just too obvious of choice (despite that fact that he had voted this way before). "Truly, Fire Made Flesh, either you are a wolf or they have done a very elaborate job setting you up. It could also be that you just have that bad of luck... but at this stage, I don't think I can overlook the clues."

Waking, Swamp Trees was saddened by the 'death' of Wintershadow. It wasn't something she expected. Letting it slide over her, since it was a game and part of life, she waited to hear what others might be saying. Should she vote for the one who had voted against him or wait a bit more. This was more than she expected.

After listening to Wild Cry, she realized that it seemed to be true. "Nothing to say that you are not trying to throw us off with that too." Things seemed not to matter which way they vote. Sighing, Swamp Trees looked at Fire Made Flesh and Bitter End. It was between those two, though she wasn't sure which to go with.

Story responded to Optimist with a sad, slow, shake of his head. He could not stay quiet and inactive this time. He knew that now.

"What transpired in the night was, as this all has been, rather confusing. The wolves run everyone in circles and leave us blind." He looked to the whole group and silently sought some kind of answer. An inkling into the minds of each kin left.

"As to what happened yesterday," he paused to think on his words. "There was no way to know if what Kiss of Death said was true. About being a healer. While it's definitely fact that no one can be certain that what any of us say is true regarding our own character ... She was the only one to claim sway of any kind. It makes sense that so many would regard that in suspicion. Whether we were right in that thought, we may never know I still stand by the thought that it is best we act decisively once a more-or-less group consensus has been reached."

He still wondered if maybe the best bet was to vote for himself. It felt defeatist, though, and there was one thing he had true pride in- He never gave up.

"All of that said," he continued, "it still seems the most we can do is vote with our gut. I've already voted for you once, and I shall do so again. I hope that you can forgive me should it end up being the wrong choice- Okay is Wonderful."

Wild Cry nodded to concede. "As you say, but I have not had any interactions with any that died at night. That does not prove my innocence, but it also does not prove any guilt. Twice I have voted with the majority because I could not handle the guilt of condemning one I deemed innocent and it was easier to vote for those that were going to be killed off by the majority anyways.

"And," he sighed, "I have always voted. That does not prove any innocence, either, but I do feel that shows an attempt to participate in every day round to try and make a difference when I can, even if I did not know how I should vote."

After a pause, he looked around at each that were left. "I have tried voting randomly to see if there would be any retaliation. With some of the kills it does almost seem like one vote was enough to condemn you. I still feel I have been lucky, as I have voted randomly in the past and am still here."

"That is my defense," Wild Cry nodded, "and I could very well be digging my own grave by putting all my acorns in the hole."

"I would like to ask though, Optimist. If you are prey -- would you have any idea or thoughts on why the wolves haven't taken you at night?" She paused, waiting for an answer but not too long, time was of the essence.

Bare Trees listened to Wild Cry, thinking on this. "This is true that.. while Optimist has certainly been strangely and certainly suspiciously vocal since the start, it was consistent. But Fire Made Flesh -- had been erratic, now more vocal when his own life-- well, um, fake life was at stake.." she sighed, frowning. "I see that we are all pressed for time and I, too, apologize if this may be wrong, like many others I am following my gut. Nightingale also said it herself, evidence has thinned -- I think in general with Wintershadows 'death' ... there is no concrete evidence against Fire Made Flesh or any kin here.. We can just all try to vote every time and watch who votes who. That being said, I do not want to miss this vote and I will vote... Fire Made Flesh."

"I still believe Fire Made Flesh may be too obvious but if voting for him means that theory is put to rest...," she sighed.

Apathy dipped her head towards Fire. "The premise is sound, but I do not know if I agree with the conclusion. To say Optimist steered us seems to imply she would have led the majority, when less than half of her votes actually succeeded. She did seem particularly intent on Kiss," a disapproving hum, "but she stated her reasons, and she wasn't alone." Many had agreed to wait out the night to see what would happen to Kiss, and, even more telling, the majority had voted for her death.

She could not deny that Optimist had been the first to accuse Kiss, but whether that was indicative of an intent prey or predator, she could not say. However, she was not so willing to vote for someone who was so vocal. Whether it be a ruse or a genuine attempt at ferreting out the wolves, Apathy agreed that facilitating discussion was better than doing nothing. What more evidence of that, than the number of "gut-feeling" votes today?

Apathy nodded towards Wild Cry as well. She agreed with the reasoning, especially as Neither Nor had been accused of the same (though the buck seemed intent on sliding past any suspicions against him).

"I think Wild Cry and Bare Trees have covered my main concerns. In addition, I don't think lack of incriminating evidence is necessarily indicative of innocence; both prey and predator alike have a stake in diverting suspicion. For today, I vote Fire Made Flesh."
