She found a sweet spot, and dug in-
Before the trident could reach exactly where it needed, the lion rolled onto it's back, it's head lolling loosely as it was almost ready to fall off. Maebe disappeared, crushed under it's entire body.

Dawson didn't even bother with the shield: he outright pulled the crumbling form of the lion off and tossed it away with a great heave.
"Good lord, Maebe Grace." There was a laugh in his voice as he dusted her off and offered to help her up. "Sheeyit. If ya don' join Sun, ya better run Sun fer me at least, hun, 'cause yer damn fine at it."

She looked flatter than usual.
"All in a day's work." She assured him, taking both of his hands and pulling herself back up to her feet with them. If he tried to pull them away to help clean her up, he would find them captured. She wanted his attention.
"I'd be a Sun, if it meant being your Sun." She informed him, with a tight smile that told wonders about how much she wasn't joking - and how improbable that still was. "But I'm still not meant for the role." And that was why. "So I'll just be around to help kick a** when you need some help, okay?"
She let go of his hands, and began to brush her skin. Sweat clung to the white marble dust, refusing to let her get clean. It only had her diving into the lake that much faster, even if the lake itself did not appreciate her gung ho attitude the first time around. Despite washing off the marble dust, the black gunk's desperate touch still made her feel dirty.

He knew he shouldn't have felt so giddy to hear the words your Sun, but there it was: a short quick burst of abashed but genuine pleasure. "Yeahyeah, I getcha." Dawson swallowed it back down, forcing his focus on the dirty damn pool.
Which for some reason once again didn't attack him. Maybe he was finding some luck for once?
"Bit bad when it's supposed t'be the knight doin' all the battlin' fer the lady, though," he joked. "I should work on that."

"Well, I've been here for like, 10 years." Could she have exaggerated more? Let's face it, the answer was a resounding Yes. "And you've just got here. You were human for all of your life. Give yourself a chance, and you'll be saving me from towers in no time. And then I can give you a kiss, and sweetly tell you-"
She mooned the bird that watched her as she spoke in a high pitched voice. "Your princess is in another castle!"
Scarabs and boars came by to teach her a lesson about mooning the bird, moments later. She was not contrite.

Maebe could tell he wanted the lions and bulls to go missing so badly, but she was strangely, sickeningly getting used to them. When neither showed up for them this time, she tried to hide her disappointment.

Thankfully the coast was clear. Dawson felt safe enough to take the lead this time like he used to.
"Wonder what powers this place anyway," he mused aloud, having forgotten if they had discussed that yet or not. Really he just liked filling the silence with more than just grunts of pain and the sounds of plants getting torn apart.

But it had found her now, and that slick sticky mess was refusing to let go of her. She was caught, disappearing in so much of the black sludge that she could hardly move her arms. Fighting it took every ounce of strength she had left, but by the time she was almost free, it grabbed her by the leg and tugged and snapped-
She twisted as she landed on the shore, her leg singing with more pain than she'd experienced - and once more, there was no adrenaline rush to soothe it.
She breathed slowly, until she was sure her voice would not betray just how badly her leg had been damaged, before calling out to him. "Keep going!"

Dawson knew his record of going at it alone was abysmal, but what choice did he have? He whined loudly again before promising he'd hurry it up.
Having a Cerbrus chase him certainly made it go by a great deal faster.

This time not even a tempting shiny was there. He stared at the empty pedestal and had half a mind to hit it with his shield.
