He felt his arms wrap around him, so caring, so gentle. And he thought he'd feel comforted by it, that it would make everything better. But it didn't. His heart still hurt and his body still shook. He was scared about so much, but sad about so much more. His home was gone, his grandmother was dead, their friends were imprisoned, he no longer had his kitchen, a safe place to hide... and Alpha... Alpha's words with him, those friendly French little whispers and the comforting words.. but Alpha's heart sat elsewhere. He could see it in his eyes, a sort of passion flaring up in his eyes every time he saw Pan and Carpo side by side. A longing and a thought on what could've been.

It hurt to see, but hurt more to think there wasn't a thing he could offer up to dissuade his interest. He wasn't funny, or brave, or strong, or quick. He was frail and weak... and childish. And selfish.. He shouldn't have been thinking about something so stupid as this, but now that he'd gotten back to at least semi-normalcy... it was hard to will the thoughts away.

A few tears ran down his cheek as he listened quietly and felt the man's arms wrap around him, clinging to him for what he assumed was more himself than was for Rene. If he saw the tears, he'd let him think they were from Granny... from the stress..

"Merci, Alpha.."

Raising a brow at Alpha's words, he shook his head and chuckled, a sad sort of chuckle. "No, Alpha. Just because everyone is in love with Carpo and Pan is in love with Carpo, doesn't mean everyone is. I-.. my heart is.. I-I'm sorry that was mean," he said as he looked at the table, tracing the cracks in it quietly, as he seemed to think. It seemed there was something he wanted to say.. something on the tip of his tongue. He seemed to be thinking rather hard on it, perhaps thinking of the best way to ask his question.. When he finally grasped onto the right words, well, he couldn't look Alpha in the eyes, instead he just looked to the sleeping couple and chewed on his lip. "You are really in love with Carpo... aren't you?"

That wasn't really what he wanted to say.. He wanted to tell Alpha that he loved him and that he had loved him for a long time. He wanted to tell him he was so distraught because Alpha's heart lay with Carpo.. How it had eaten at him.. But.. he was scared..

Nodding some at his words, he continued tracing his fingers on the lines of the wood, crinkling his nose some as he found his finger at a dead end. "You haven't failed me as anything Alpha. Granny warned me that something like this might happen some day. She told me so from the first moment we found you in the woods. Said to me, if you are going to help him, he's your responsibility child and you can't complain when things go awry. She knew about the lot of you test tube babies.... Knew that they'd come for you some day. She was old though.. so she wasn't worried. The consequences would fall on my head, she knew.. and they have."

"You may have felt like you were protecting me for so long Alpha... like I was a lost innocent in the would. But you were the lost innocent first. The one who needed protecting," he said, looking over to the window some, watching a bit of movement only to look back to Alpha.. "I don't know what I'm talking about.. I just.. hmm.. Don't be so worried yes?"

A light pink appeared on his cheeks as he felt Alpha's hands tough his face and those lips of his brush against his forehead. Looking down a bit, he appeared flustered as Alpha turned away, only to frown as he looked back to him. He look so upset, so guilty. It made him feel horrid. He'd hoped his words would've helped at least some...

"I know you will Alpha.. You are my hero you know...Even if you don't know it... I.. mmm..I know I can trust you to protect me and so far you have. I am all in one piece and any damage that happened, well, that's that government's fault, not yours.... I know you can protect me, just like you always have. Now try to smile, hm," he said, taking Alpha's chin in his hand and turning it to look at him...

Rene paused at those words, glancing outside to the horrid weather. It was a shame that the weather would become so horrid before the sun had even fully risen. Staring at the gusting for a moment, he seemed to think on that before turning back to Alpha. "Do...do you think of of me as only a friend, " he asked, a nervous look on his features as he looked him over.

Rene couldn't really look at him as he waited for the response and instead fidgeted and played with the stray strings on his sleeve. Twisting and pulling at them, he listened to him nervously before turning his eyes to look upon him. His words made his heart flutter and a bright sort of smile appear on his face. So he did care and he was speaking French and... Oh my..

Sitting up a bit more, he leaned over the table just to take Alpha's hands in his own. "Peut-être un peu, mais de vous entendre dire cela maintenant .. Eh bien , il est certainement me sens beaucoup mieux . Vous êtes très important pour moi Alpha ... (Maybe a little, but to hear you say this now.. Well, it certainly makes me feel much much better. You are very important to me Alpha...)," he said, squeezing his hands some as he looked to him. " I really do.. care about you.. you know..?"
