Charlotte, the Demon Maid

Charlotte put her hands on her hips as she raised an eyebrow. "Cooking and cleaning is my job." the maid said, firmly rejecting that idea. "You can go shopping with me, though - another pair of hands means I can get more stuff in a single run, and we've got a fair few mouths to feed."

With that, the maid hopped into the kitchen and took out a bit of tofu, slicing out a few small chunks. "This is actually pretty easy - you just need the right temperature and a little oil." she said, putting a pan on the stove and adding the oil. It wasn't long before it was heated properly, and the maid swished around a bit before tossing the tofu in and using some metal tongs to turn it. After ensuring it was properly browned on all sides, she transferred the pieces to a place and patted them dry. It was all done with professional skill - as expected, from a professional maid. "There we go. You can bring this up and set it on the offering plate." the maid said, putting one piece on a small plate and holding it out to Miki.

A sad look flashed across Miki's face as Charlotte rejected her offer to help cook and clean, but the red-eyed girl smiled brightly at the invitation to help with shopping. She wanted to be as useful as possible, they were letting her stay here after all.

"I'd love to help with shopping, Char, but if possible I'd still like to learn to cook, I've always wanted to cook for-... Never mind, I'd just like to learn, if that's ok!"

Miki blushed as she stopped herself from finishing her sentence, changing tack a little at the end. Following Char into the kitchen, she attentively watched every step Char took, taking notes on temperature and length of time per side, and the thickness of the tofu. Admittedly, fried tofu wasn't exactly master chef material, but she would learn what she could, when she could.

"Thank you very much, Char, I really appreciate the lesson, and the favour. Wish me luck?"

Miki spoke with a smile as she took the fried tofu Charlotte held out for her, looking a little apprehensive. Squaring up as best she could, Miki made her way upstairs, and promptly realised she forgot to ask which room was Rednal's.

"Oh no. I don't want to invade someone's privacy..."

Thankfully for her, the first door she tried opened easily enough, and showed (what she thought) was a very boyish room, with a shrine in the corner.

"Lucky~"

Stepping into the room, Miki closed the door behind her, moving up to kneel before the shrine, placing the small serving of tofu onto the offering plate.

"Uh... What now? Mmm... I pray? I guess..."

Unclear of what she should pray for, Miki placed her hands together, closing her eyes, and thought about her family, hoping for their safety.

Kyori Hoshiko

The first sign that something was different was when someone reached around from behind Miki and plucked the fried tofu off of the offering plate, and with a smile, Kyori popped it into her mouth and ate it. The room itself was relatively straightforward - there was a large bed in the middle (big enough for three, maybe four if people were close together), a dresser and a desk to one side. There was also a large TV taking up most of a wall, although it didn't look like it got used much. A human-sized body of a girl with silver hair was in the far left corner from the door, while the shrine was in the far right, elevated in the proper manner. There was a closet in-between them.

For the moment, Kyori was in her normal form - long black hair and vivid amber-hued eyes, and she smiled as she swallowed. "Tastes like Charlotte made this one." she mused thoughtfully. "Good call on that. It's nice to meet you, Miki. I'm Kyori Hoshiko... and as for your parents, well, they're still alive. You need not fear for them quite so much." She idly licked her fingers clean as she sat down on the bed, smiling patiently and waiting for the other girl to say what was on her mind.

Eyes closed, Miki was praying, thinking about her family, their safety. The first hint, thus, that she had she wasn't alone was when Kyori spoke behind her, causing her to jump in place, spinning around on her knees to face the voice. She hadn't known what to expect, as to how the goddess would arrive, either way she hadn't been ready.

"Ah! How...?"

Her mouth flapped a few times, allowing Kyori to make her remarks on the tofu, which dampened Miki's spirits somewhat, she really should have fried the gift herself, she felt. Then Kyori really dropped a bombshell. Not only had she actually heard Miki's prayer, she confirmed the girl's parents were alive! Practically launching forward, still on her knees, Miki grasped Kyori's hands.

"Really!? How do you know? Are they really ok? Where are they?!"

A mountain of questions were flooding her brain, spilling from her mouth in quick succession, before she managed to get a hold of herself. Wriggling her knees closer to Kyori, still clasping the fox-girl's hands, Miki looked up at the goddess and beamed a radiant smile. And then pessimism sunk in.

"But, how do you know? You could have just been hiding in one of the other rooms and snuck in after me... There's no way you're a real goddess is there? This has to be some kind of trick..."

Miki's heart sunk at the thought, as her mind raced over everything that had happened this afternoon. Had it all just been some big lie? Would someone really go to such lengths?

Kyori smiled slightly from where she was sitting. "You possess the power of Atma, Miki. You just made friends with a vampire, and that's not even taking Charlotte into consideration. Or did you think there were demons but no gods in this world?" she paused for a moment to let Miki consider that. "Perhaps this will help." As she finished speaking, her hair changed from black to white. At the same time, nine tails erupted out from the back of her waist, fluffy enough to cover a good portion of the bed she was on. Two triangular ears popped out of the top of her head, replacing those on the side as she continued to smile gently.

It was understandable, really, that people who were afraid would doubt - but what was the point of a messenger, if not to deliver messages and soothe such fears? "It's all right if you don't want to believe me right now. You'll understand soon enough." she added. It wasn't like she demanded the worship of everyone in the house, after all. "The important part is that you're no longer alone."

"I... I'm sorry, it's not that I don't believe you, it's just been a... strange afternoon, there's a lot to take in."

Miki sighed and lowered her head. She was stilling grasping Kyori's hands, tightly, and a few tears fell onto both of their fingers.

"They're alive, I believe you. I'm so happy."

Looking up again at Kyori's face, Miki beamed a wide smile, even as more tears fell from her eyes. Unlike before, with Charlotte, these were nothing but happy tears, and Miki made no attempt to hide them.

"Are you able to tell me where they are? Are they safe, or in prison? I want to see them. But first I need to get better, I need to be able to control myself."

A little firmness returned to the girl's voice, and she finally noticed fully the change that had come across Kyori, unable but to be impressed.

"Your parents are safe enough. They were questioned rather thoroughly after you left, but eventually they were allowed to go back to their jobs. They're a bit watched, still, but being politicians helped - their peers didn't like the idea that they, too, could be made victims that way, so they weren't too harsh in the end." Her fluffy white tails swished around a little. "You're right that you should try to get a little more control over the Virus, though... and there's no time like the present." she looked right into Miki's eyes. "Are you ready to overcome your fears, Miki Nanao?"

Miki sighed with relief, but couldn't help feel a little embarrassed at how much she had worried. Her parents were okay, better than ok. Instead, however, of focusing on that, Miki focused on Kyori's next words, asking if she was ready.

"I am. The sooner I have control, the sooner we can work to curing this virus, and the sooner I can go home to my family. But what are we going to do? How am I going to learn to control it?"

Standing, Miki steeled herself, she was ready to do almost anything.

"The Atma Virus is something that's normally fairly easy for the user to control." Kyori explained. "Aside from the odd emotional urge, most people just need to focus a little. In fact, the only person I know who's had a real problem is stuck halfway between human and full atma, and she makes it work. For your case, I think the best thing to do would be to have you transform down in Flandre's room. If you rampage, we'll stop you - and we'll keep doing it until you can properly control yourself. A trial by fire is a bit unladylike, but I don't have the authority to alter the virus itself for you. At the very least, I think it will help." She reached out and stroked Miki's head. "And since you're so willing to help yourself, I have no intention of letting you live in fear."

"Wait, what? Like... Right now?? Well... Ok. Yes. Sure, let's do it!"

While she was a little taken aback at the suddenness, Miki was all for it. She wanted to gain control as soon as possible, if it that meant right now, that meant right now.

"Ah, wait a second though, I don't want to ruin these clothes that Char gave me, I'll go quickly change back into my clothes, they're already a bit beat up, it doesn't matter if they get worse!"

With that, Miki stood, and rushed into the bathroom, looking for, and finding, her own outfit. She quickly stripped off the fresh clothes that Charlotte had given her, and folded them neatly into a pile, placing them into the same box she unceremoniously dumped her clothes out of.

They were dirty, but as she slipped into her tattered outfit, she felt far more comfortable than she had since the bath. She was used to wearing these clothes, the clinking of the chains, the weight around her.

"Yes! This'll do!"

Stepping out of the bathroom, Miki practically ran back down the stairs, and skidded to a halt in front of the basement door. Barely holding herself back, she almost reached for the handle, but decided to wait until Kyori was with her again, and anyone else who would be coming.

Rednal Ak'Thias

Kyori seemed like she was simply going to watch, but she did not to Rednal as he came downstairs with Miki, and it was clear he understood what was going on. "All right, let's do this." he said, opening the door to the basement for Miki. Passing downstairs, he shut the door behind them, then slipped a small green ring onto his middle left finger. It pulsed slightly, then formed an additional layer beneath his clothes to help absorb any damage that might have been caused. He was pretty confident in his toughness... but his encounter with Ari this morning had been a rather pointed reminder that even with all his experience, he could still be taken by surprise. Goodness knew he wasn't going to make that mistake again so soon... especially because this was something he actually needed to succeed at. Miki was here for help, and no matter what, he was going to give it.

Flandre was also present, of course - and the vampire carefully moved over to block the exit and ensure that Miki wouldn't escape no matter how wild her powers went. She wasn't too concerned about the rest of the room - objects were easy enough to replace, and this was a sealing chamber that was good at keeping dangerous people inside. "No time like the present." Rednal said thoughtfully. "Go ahead and let your power out now. Don't be afraid of it - control it and make it your own. We'll take care of the rest."

As she followed Rednal back down into the basement, Miki became very quiet, tensing up. She was afraid, of course, her transformations had never ended well, she had always ended up somewhere unknown after each one. Though she had only known them for an afternoon, she had come to trust the members of Rednal's household, and they all spoke highly of Rednal himself, so she trusted him too.

"Mm. I'm ready."

Moving into the centre of the basement, Miki breathed deep, slowly releasing her breath before a sudden swirl of energy surrounded her body, blowing her hair and clothes like a rough wind. In the blink of an eye, her skin changed hue into a purple-ish blue, her body grew into a more mature form, horns sprouted from her head, and large, chained wings erupted from her back, flexing in the air behind her, testing their strength.

As the energy surrounding her dissipated, the demonic woman now standing in the middle of the room flexed her clawed fingers, rolling her arms as if limbering up, before lifting her head to stare at the pair guarding the way out. Her eyes narrowed, and purple energy flared from them for a moment, before a grin split her seductive face.

"You think you, pitiful things, could control me? Look upon my beautiful form and fear for your lives. Do as I desire and I may let you live."

The demoness took a few steps forward, holding out her hand, palm up, her fingers clawing softly at the air.

"Move."

"Make us." Rednal answered simply. Miki had quite the... form... with her Atma abilities, didn't she? It was different for each person, apparently. Some people (like Aselia) hardly seemed to change at all, while others ended up in a form drastically different from their own. There was really no predicting what it was going to be - and the important point is that if this was Miki's power, it was what she needed to get under control. He could help keep her trapped in here, but in the end, Miki was going to have to take control. Speaking of... "Don't look away from who you truly are, Miki. Even if it's something you don't like about yourself, you have to accept it and move on. Nobody's perfect, and that's okay... so show me the you that you want to be."

"Oho~"

One step forward. Deep purple energy began to swirl around the demoness's claws, visibly pulling in any particles in the surrounding air. Her wings unfurled further, as much as they could with the chains that bound them. She was clearly preparing to attack, but something was holding her back. For a brief instant, the expression on her face softened, before returning to a seductive grin.

"You'll have to try harder than that, I'm afraid, she on the inside sleeps while I play, and I haven't played in so long~"

One more step. Slowly approaching Rednal and Flandre, she tried one more time to get them to move, she wasn't stupid, two-on-one almost never ended well for the sole combatant, especially when she had no idea how strong the pair actually was.

"One last chance, move, or die."

Rednal's response was fairly simple - the ring on his hand flashed and formed a shield of green light. He could have simply bludgeoned her, of course, but beating her into submission wasn't going to help her get the kind of control she needed. To put it another way, this wasn't the sort of thing he could resolve through sheer, brute force - but he was quite happy to let her hammer at him for awhile. "Then it's time for her to wake up." Rednal answered with a slight smile. "She's not going to be afraid of you any longer. You can try to fight it all you want, but the end result is going to be the same. And at the risk of repeating myself... if you want me to move, make me. Or are you just a bunch of hot air?"

Meanwhile, Flandre remained warily near the exit, ready to intercept if Miki's transformed side decided to try and run for it.
