Caranthir smiled. "That explains a lot." Then he shook his head again. "At any rate, I ask that you leave Aerin alone, at least for today. Allow her to rest as she has not rested in almost four hundred years."

Earendil nodded. "We will do as you ask."

Lin couldn't disagree with such a request, four hundred years was a very long time to not have been sleeping at all. She tugged on Earendil's hand to lead him back out.

"Then I can introduce Earendil to the rest of Haven."

Or at least to the people she knew well.

Earendil smiled. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Caranthir, despite the circumstances," he said as Lin led him from the room.

Caranthir bowed his head. "I hope that we may meet again," he replied. "Take care of yourselves, both of you."

Lin smiled warmly, "See you later Caranthir."

Leadning Earendil back out into the hallway, Lin mused that perhaps it was good to see if Halmir and Artheral were home and not out on patrol. For no other reason than to see how they were doing. While she never hung around the two fighters as much as some others, they held a special place in her heart.

Or rather her childhood memories.

"Ready to visit more people?"

"Always," Earendil grinned, following Lin down the dark hallway. He looked around at the various doors. "Who lives in each of these rooms?" he asked, nodding at the doors they were passing.

"I don't know if all of them are full, but they house the fighters mainly," Lin explained, "I know about a door over from Caranthir's is where Celeborn lives, but I hadn't thought to check if he was in."

That and she thought as she murmured a list of other fighters and a hunter or two she knew, that Celeborn's room was generally a mess for a guy who lived for this work.

"I think you might know one or two of them right? Sir Ryder served as part of the homeguard back when Mom and Dad first visited the Southland."

"I know the name," Earendil nodded, "but I don't remember him. He left before I was old enough to remember. I know Sir Leith and Sir Boudwin are here somewhere, I remember them from when I was younger."

Much ... much younger.

Sixty five or seventy years ago, at least.

"Sir Leith probably is out helping training the horses when he's not partoling."

She really didn't talk to them that much, they were interesting and she half wondered if their Common Tongue improved any. Making her way down to the family quarters was much easier since she could see the blue glow from the rose lit her way.

That and they were at the end of the hall which made it easier.

Earendil chuckled. "Interesting to know that he's willing to work with them, one thing I do remember about him is that he was always working with the unicorns, he never would go near the horses."

He watched the doors go by, and as they reached the first floor again, it seemed to him that they were on their way out of the barracks again.

"So who are we going to see?" he asked, curious to know where they were going.

"First see if Halmir and Arthael are home," Lin murmured as she headed down to the other end of the barracks.

She had fond memories of the two, even if they tended to involve the two arguing, except the one time when Aragost first arrived.

"They're both from the Westland though I heard that Arthael served in the homeguard for the Southland until the end of the last war."

"That would have been before my time," Earendil chuckled, "but still, it's interesting to know how many people here are somehow connected to someone else."

To his understanding, many of the fighters here had been in either the Westland or Southland army, or else been a member of the royal guard somewhere.

"It gets quite interesting after a while," Lin admitted, "They're the last door down the hallway because they're married and Timeaus, Jasmine's and River's father."

It was amazing she could remember all these people whom she had interacted with, much less their connections.

"So Jasmine and River's grandparents," Earendil nodded. "Got it. And were they married when they came here? Or did they meet here?"

The ranch was almost as old as Earendil himself, it was quite possible that there could be four or five generations of people here. After all, even Elrohir and Haradhel, who had gotten married the year the ranch had begun, were great-grandparents already.

"They met here, before Halmir married he was... uhm..."

Lin tried to think of a nice way to put it, after all she liked Halmir a great deal eccentries aside.

"Easily distracted so he was often paired with Arthael to keep him on track. Actually I don't know how they ended up courting I missed that."

Earendil laughed. "Sounds like fun. Though keep in mind, there doesn't have to always be formal courting in a relationship," he added with a grin. "I mean, I don't think Aurin and Rhea had anything like that, they just sort of stuck together a lot."

He chuckled softly. "I wonder how her parents took the news. We didn't quite stick around that long, did we? And I think they got a bit sidetracked when Aerin showed up ..."
