Had Lin really thought about it, that line sounded so cheesy (or at least it sounded like something out of a romance novel). Though she knew it was true and she was more interested in flicking water back at him.

"You know I didn't really think about doing that," Lin told him splashing water back, "Though there was a reason why I learned that in the first place. I'd never be able to keep otherwise."

"Is that why you learned it?" Earendil grinned, holding up one arm to shield himself and then splashing back at her again. "To keep up with me?"

He thought nothing of what he had said. After all, had he not already waited more than sixty years for her?

"You and everyone else, ever tried running after a hunter going after a deer when you're... really small?"

That had been insane, she loved it though, but it had been insane trying to keep up with him.

"It's hard."

"I've never seen a deer," Earendil reminded her. "And the trees here are the first real trees I've seen. The ones in Tor Karad don't count, I think they were magically grown, or else transplanted or something. Either way, they don't grow there naturally."

And of course they were nowhere near the size or splendour of the trees here.

"Unless we find deer somewhere else, we have to go to the Borderlands," Lin told him, "You miss out, deer are pretty. While the females are, the bucks are just dangerous, not that I've been near one... at least not one that wasn't going to be eaten...."

She thought about it for a moment.

"I saw a lot of animals while at Haven..."

For some reason her mind went back to the weasel, she never did figure out what he did with it.

Earendil chuckled again and splashed water on his face. "I've hardly seen any animals," he admitted. "Coyote once in the desert, few snakes, some birds, butterflies ... fish, of course. And the sea dragons ... and Kelirahc's dragon. There just don't seem to be all that many on this island at all, and of course the animals at sea aren't all that varied."

He couldn't help but hope that other islands would have a bit more wildlife. To be honest, he was feeling a bit cheated so far.

"Maybe they're hiding," Lin murmured, "I mean I can't imagine a place with so much vegetation without more diverse animals than this."

Especially since there were obviously birds there had to be something keeping the bird population in check.

"Perhaps we should ask Kelirahc when we go back to shore," Earendil suggested. "He would be the one to know, he's lived here all his life ... if there's anything he doesn't know about the island, I'll be surprised. And if we keep in mind that the Night Elves are nocturnal, generally ... it wouldn't surprise me if most of the animals here have a heightened flight instinct from not being used to having people around."

If that were so, they would be very quick to hide, he was sure.

"True...." Lin murmured thoughtfully, "Which would explain why we hadn't really seen any animals yet besides birds and insects."

Nice insects she added mentally nothing that bit or anything o that nature.

"Could be," Earendil agreed. He ducked under the water for a moment, and in an instant he was up again, and he threw his head back to get his hair out of his face. "Ahhhhh ... much better. The water here is beautiful ..."

He splashed water over his chest. "About as clean as I'm going to get this time out," he murmured with a smile.

Lin could not deny that the water here was clear and beautiful, she thought as she ducked under herself. Though she had an easier time of it seeing as it was already up to her chest. It was only once she was pushing her hair out of her eyes did she realize how much it had grown. Even her bangs were growing out and she preferred bangs really.

"Need a hair cut...."

Earendil chuckled as he ran his fingers through his hair. "Why do you say that?" he grinned. "My hair is longer than yours. Though I suppose shorter hair would be easier to take care of."

He looked towards the shore. "Think Arwen might have a pair? I know she brought along supplies for sewing and such, in case we needed new clothes, or repairs on them ..."

"I don't know, I just don't want to go through the trouble of growing out my bangs," Lin replied, "The back I can deal with but I didn't bring any clips to keep my bangs out of the way because I generally don't grow them."

So she had been ill prepared for that and they were troublesome at the moment.

Earendil looked at Lin thoughtfully. "Slick them back?" he suggested. "I don't know ... maybe you could use one of those things that Starr uses sometimes, those cloth bands, to hold them back ... or use a bandanna or something ..."

He couldn't remember having bangs, he had had long hair for such a long time ...

Lin personally liked her bangs and would rather not grow them out even though she did admit it was troublesome to have to cut them back each time they grew too long.

"Don't have a bandanna, and I can't slick them back without gel or something hold it, and that would just look weird."

On her she would think so, but she was so use to looking like she did, which was to say like her mother only with black hair and very obvious green eyes.
