O Righteous Overseer Crew

He was trying to pay attention as Harata spoke, he really was, except the way the Captain acted so fondly and concerned for Coline's well being held his curiosity better. Ever watching those around him in his spying, learning more about the dynamics of life, it was only once he had his fill, did he notice what Harata was doing.
Apologetically, he jumped and scrambled to follow suit, copying Harata as she demonstrated the stretch. He left the practice weapon where it lay like she asked, and he had to admit it felt nice to do and not to agonize over every little detail.
It did, however, come to a surprise when the Captain barked at him, and easily startled, the Overseer glanced at Harata. And if she didn't know better, he may have been silently asking permission to go. Although he did not wait for confirmation before he hopped up and jogged over to the two in a roundabout way. Coming over in a half circle, he ended up on the far side of Coline and the Captain.
He crouched down at her side, curious and a bit nervous to be this close to the scene he had been watching from afar. His gaze kept flickering up towards the drow, and finally he cautiously laid a hand on Coline's head. It was not a matter of faith for him, because he believed with every fiber of his body that he will be able to heal her, albeit how well, was still a matter up in the air.
Nearly face to face with her, he could nearly feel the pain Coline was in, and for a split second he thought he understood her. He ached for her plight, for her struggles, and with compassion, he gently kissed the top of her head. It did not catch him by surprise when he felt the trickle of power seep through, a rare moment of peace taking hold of him.

All good is hard, and all evil is easy. Dying, losing... Jessie, breathing heavily, watched as the Overseer approached. As the man knelt down, he kept his hard gaze trained on him. It must have been intimidating, for the man kept glancing at him nervously... he was just about to demand that the Overseer hurry up and heal her when, to his utter shock, the white-haired demi god leaned over and kissed her tenderly on the top of her head.
Stunned, he felt his breathing, formerly so harsh, stop. the Overseer looked back at him, and he met his gaze, single eye wide. The Captain's expression was... wide. Confused. Hopeful. Unreadable. It was many things, all at once.
Eventually, the emotional upheaval on his face absorbed back inside him. He began to breathe again.
In those next few seconds, it was as if he and the Overseer reached some sort of unspoken understanding. He felt the compassion with which the Overseer had healed her. He could feel within himself the strong emotions he had for Coline. They both loved this woman, and at that moment it gave them the strongest connection there could be between two strangers.
Then the Captain moved his arms, still supporting the girl, around her, and pulled her to him. The movement was urgent, and once she was in his arms he held her there, burying part of his face in her hair, as if she'd be blown away by the wind if he let go. ...Cheating and mediocrity are easy. Stay away from easy.

Coline found herself in a position where masking the pain proved to be most difficult and so she kept her head hung low. She must have twisted something during her rough landing from Harata's unconventional disarming technique, and it became increasingly difficult to keep herself up on her feet. She'd reached her limit.
The Captain was saying... something. She couldn't quite make out the words. Her mind in such a blur that she found comfort in the thought of simply blacking out, something she normally wouldn't sit well with. She closed her eyes, resigned to the sad reality that she would have to depend on her superior again, when she felt something soft press upon her head.
The pain had slowly but surely started to fade away and her mind had started to clear. What had happened? Lifting her head, much to her surprise, Coline soon found herself in the Captain's arms. Her body tensed, of course, and she wasn't sure what to make of it.
...But did it really matter?
Coline's eyes closed and her body relaxed, taking some time to relish the moment. She might not be fortunate enough to be held like this ever again. She didn't know what exactly triggered it, but whatever it was, she was glad that it happened.
After what felt like forever her eyes flickered open and she shifted a little in her seat. "Sir?" she said, finally breaking the silence. "Are... you alright?" She peeked a little over the Captain's shoulder and glanced about. It was then that she noticed this white-haired man sitting nearby. Her brow furrowed slightly. He looked... strangely familiar.

Nindyn vel'uss kyorl nind ratha thalra elyhinn dal lil alust. "...Hm?" he mumbled, as if waking from a long dream. He felt Coline shifting around, but somehow the thought that he might have overstepped the mark didn't cross his mind. It was as if everything had suddenly become beautifully unreal, and none of the normal restrictions seemed to apply.
However, her wriggling seemed to have stimulated the wake-up reflex. It was impossible trying to hold on to the feelings that had gripped him - they slipped away rapidly, and as he opened his eye the cold light of day nearly blinded him. Shutting it again, he gave a deep sigh, burying his face back in Coline's hair for just a few more seconds before abruptly releasing her.
"I'm fine," he answered as he pulled away "The important thing is whether or not you are alright, Coline." Those who watch their backs meet death from the front. ~~ Drow proverb

Attention shifting back to the drow, Coline straightened in her seat. "Strangely..." she dragged on, eyes tracing skeptically over her legs. In a second she picked herself up from the ground. Without strain, surprisingly. She stretched her leg out to one side--her last bit of reassurance--and straightened herself again. "Yes, the pain seems to have left somehow..."
Her eyes turned to the Captain hesitantly. "...Was it you, sir?"

Nindyn vel'uss kyorl nind ratha thalra elyhinn dal lil alust. Jessie stiffened a little. "You know perfectly well that I am a warrior, not a healer," he answered sullenly "It was him."
He jerked his head to indicate the Overseer behind him, before getting to his feet. "I would suggest that you see Lorika as soon as possible. The pain might have lifted, but it will come back. The Overseer," he explained, in all seriousness "Does not know how to heal yet." He knew this thanks to Harata's earlier comment.
While sitting, he'd been on the verge of insisting that she use his name when speaking to him. Now, he didn't quite see the point. Looking at her with an expression that was cold and closed, he dully folded his arms. Those who watch their backs meet death from the front. ~~ Drow proverb

"Ahah... of course." she mumbled sheepishly. Didn't she say it was a silly thought? Coline tilted herself to the side to get a better view of the white-haired man. Just as she was about to express her thanks the stern voice of the Captain reclaimed her attention.
By instinct she straightened her posture and listened intently as the Captain gave his instructions. Though more towards the end her face twisted slightly in disagreement. "The Overseer can't heal? But sir, that's preposte--" Her eyes slowly started to widen. Taking a step to the side, now being able to see the familiar figure of the white-haired man, it all started to come back to her. This... This was the Overseer!
Her body bent down almost instantly, a hand on her chest. "Benevolent Overseer!" she began. Her tone was transparently jumpy. "I-I am blessed to stand in your presence, my Lord!"

Nindyn vel'uss kyorl nind ratha thalra elyhinn dal lil alust. The Captain stared down at Coline's prostrate form in a mixture of horror and revulsion.
Of course, he didn't know why he was so surprised. This organisation was based on devotion to the man standing before them. Still... something in his heart ached. He realised with a strange, wrenching feeling that he had expected better of Coline. He had thought that she could share his views on this, as they seemed to share so many other things.
He was obviously wrong. As such, he couldn't help it when his face twisted into a sneer of disgust. The events of a few minutes previous replayed to him; Coline's collapse, her pain. Something close to anger bubbled up. The weakness he'd found so endearing in her suddenly became something hateful.
It was too much. Face falling blank again, he stepped back. She remained hunched forward in her silly little show of worship. The polite thing to do would have been to tell them where he was going - if you need me, I'll be - but he had no idea where he would go even if he'd been inclined towards telling them.
As such, he simply turned and stalked off without a word, black robes rippling across the sand. Those who watch their backs meet death from the front. ~~ Drow proverb
