Konaga Shinji
Iwagakure| Konaga Clan | Genin

Shinji listened to all of the details he was given, absorbing every word the woman said as he softly analyzed and linked it to what he had seen already in his mind. "Whoever she was, she had been heavily injured before arriving at the gates, apparently expecting some sort of mercy based asylum. To even think of such a thing as a spy would have meant she was gravely and desperately injured to the point of death otherwise. There was no way to be certain for sure, but if he did as Akira-sensei had mentioned and assumed the worst, then this spy who was now inside the village had killed someone not far up the road from the Iwagakure gates."

Looking back to the woman at the gates, Shinji's eyes could be seen to be calculating, causing him to somewhat 'stare' into nothingness. at the end of her words however, when she posed a question of her own, he was snapped out of his thought process. Wondering at first if he should disclose everything he saw, he realized that she had given a lot of information without question and as such, he should probably reciprocate in the name of diplomacy, or at least in mutual interest. Knowing that his sensei had given him the 'lead' position despite the Tsuchikage's apparent wishes, Shinji made the executive decision to divulge what he knew, or at least what he thought he knew to Sayuri... "On our way here we came across a scene which looked like a battle had taken place on the road from Iwa to Konoha. There were signs of intense struggle, lots of blood, and a myriad of Doton techniques, and possibly some Katon, or use of explosives. There was no body though, and we didn't know of anyone, dignitary or otherwise that would be on the road. Or if possibly on their way to Iwagakure from Konoha."

Shinji stopped again for a few short moments trying to piece everything he had learned together in his mind, but found several key blank areas which stopped him from reaching a conclusion. "I cannot say for certain, but if the spy as you said looked like she was dirtied as if in war, and bleeding heavily, she could have been involved with what we saw closer to Iwagakure." Then, after suddenly remembering the wood fragments and how they didn't seem to fit into the story he just heard, Shinji removed the piece that he had and showed it to Sayuri... "And what about this?... it looks like burnt wood, as if it had been in an explosion. There are fragments littered all around. How does this fit into the altercation you saw in front of the gates?"

Sayuri’s eyes darkened, “It doesn’t. The only thing I could see, was blood, and explosive or Katon marks. There was only a little bit of wood here at the gate. I don’t know what it was used for, but its charred, possibly from the explosion,” She said, closing her eyes, conjuring the image of the scene from her eyes. She had walked towards the bleeding girl, looked at the people. She wasn’t looking very close to the ground, but she could faintly remember seeing some wood. Some, though. Not a lot. She remembered healing the girl, and looking up at Kamiko.

Sighing, Sayuri stood up, and moved forward somewhat, so she could see the battle scene, “No. There’s no way that, that much wood that you’re describing to me, came from this battle site. No. She was bleeding, but she wasn’t bleeding heavily. She was already bandaged and wrapped. Although…,” her voice trailed off, and she looked further down the wall, toward where the Death Road began. A small smirk flittered across her face, and she flickered out of sight, but was back a second later, clutching a katana, “I thought I saw a glint of something down there. I came upon the fight at the time where I could hear the one girl, complaining and yelling to another girl about healing the wounded one. I figured, some action might have taken place down there, so when I looked down there, I saw a glint of this katana reflecting from the sun. This is probably what hurt her. Or… somebody left their katana behind,” she held up a bloody weapon, “I doubt it though. Does this look familiar to you?”

She herself took a look at it, and whistled, “Not a lot of people running around with a katana and a Sakaba back blade. These are… rare,” she said, “Can you think of anyone in your village that might have had this weapon?” Her chakra buzzed under her skin in excitement.

Entranced by the woman's story, Shinji took in as much information as she could offer, which unfortunately, wasn't much more then she already had. the wood was still somewhat of a mystery, but Shinji held onto the charred piece anyways. He was just about to ask another probing question when she suddenly disappeared before his eyes. Not knowing what to make of it, Shinji sort of panicked as his hand immediately fell to the pouch at his side as he fingered a kunai, not noticing where she went.

A moment of panic filled him once more as she returned holding a katana, his grip around the kunai tightening... but after seeing that it was held in a non-threatening way, he loosed his grip and brought his hand back out slowly. The sudden surge of emotion and adrenaline at the thought that the higher level ninja might have attacked him sent a sudden wave of pain through his system. The pain causing him to grit his teeth to the pain, his eyes glazing over slightly in a stare making him slightly miss the first half of what Sayuri was saying, but by the time he came back to the conversation, he caught on to the detail she pointed out. Looking at the rare katana, Shinji had no clue as to who in the Iwagakure would use such a weapon. he was still relatively new in terms of experience within the village, but perhaps Akira would be able to shed some light on the situation...

Turning around, Shinji quickly called his sensei over to explain what he had found out, though he was sure his teacher was listening to it all himself... "Akira-sensei, come here and take a look at this. This woman says that there was an altercation at the gates between a spy and some of the ninja of this village. Whoever it was was dirtied, heavily injured, and bleeding as if she had been in an intense battle. She says that this katana might have been the cause of some of her wounds. Apparently, it's a Sakaba back blade... rare in make. do you know of anyone in Iwagakure who would have used such a weapon?"

Akira lifted himself up from his squatting position and moved with quickness and efficiency as he made his way over to Shinji and the woman. He had been listening to the conversation up to this point; analyzing what he heard from the woman in conjunction with his knowledge about the potential crime scenes.

Akira's gaze moved to the weapon and his eyes began to move back and forwards at a rapid pace as he took in every aspect of the katana. His eyes widening slightly as the information finished processing and he came up with an answer.

"I was on the border for a while a Shinji, but even so, we received reports on items such as this. I do recall that a katana of such a make was in the possession of a Chuunin of Iwa, her name was... Seleste. Iwa keeps tabs on rare items and their owners, and it's especially important for the Border Patrol to know about these things in the case of theft and smuggling." responded Akira before going over everything and creating a summarizing statement.

"There were no reports of Seleste having returned to the village injured, and there were no signs of a corpse, yet a sword of hers ends up here in Konoha after observing two battle sites of similar description in one; the location where Seleste resided and two int he place where an injured woman shows up. Unless that woman was Seleste I can only assume she was involved in some sort of altercation with Seleste. Ma'am I think it best that we now operate under the presumption Konoha may be giving asylum to someone who has either killed or assaulted an Iwa Chuunin. If this situation is not clarified and resolved that would place the treaty between our villages on tenuous grounds."

Shinji had a feeling that Akira-sensei might know the origin of the weapon, especially considering his long standing with the village, but he was not prepared for the analysis that followed. He found himself awestruck with the potential weight of the situation, but knew that his teacher would expect to him to operate as a Chuunin would, or as any ninja placed in charge of a mission. He didn't understand the diplomacy the way his teacher did, or know the laws of proceedings of the ninja treaties, but he could easily recognize the need to bring in a higher up to sort it out as akira had said.

"If you will forgive the urgency ma'am, I think we need to speak with the Hokage, or at least a higher up who could help us sort this out. If in fact this is Seleste's weapon, as it appears it is, the odds are that we have a larger problem on our hands here then a simple mystery. Could you please send word for someone to come and speak with us on the matter? Our Tsuchikage will want to know if something has befallen of our comrade. this cannot simply be left behind to be dealt with later." shinji then turned, nodding to one of the chuunin at the desk as one of them ran off to find the Hokage or another equivalent representative of the village who could settle the matter.

Akira placed his right hand on Shinji's shoulder giving it a soft, reassuring squeeze, telling the boy he was doing a fine job so far. Shinji was able to react to the political implications of the situation however, Akira thought it best that when it came to maneuvering the actual political battleground that it would be best if he took over.

"Shinji when the representative comes, Hokage or otherwise, we can be assured that the scroll has been delivered to the appropriate place. For all intents and purposes the mission will be complete thus you will have met the requirement for the Chuunin Exams, thus you will need to go over this-" said Akira as he reached into his backpack and removed a small sealed envelope, a copy of the Preliminary Quiz and Acceptance form that had been concealed inside the scroll he received from the Tsuchikage.

"Though keep in mind, you do not actually qualify till we report the delivery to Tsuchikage, but I anticipate all will be successful. I will otherwise address the representative myself, though I may need you to submit a portion of those samples you took."

NPC.

Sayuri frowned. Seleste? Where had she heard that name before...? She closed her eyes, shifting through the back of her memory. She was sure that the name was important...

Sayuri's eyes flew open, "Seleste Mitsalune? Holy hell! Wasn't she the previous Tsuchikage's wife? Not to mention the leader of the Crystal Release-something or another," Sayuri yelped, feeling the blood drain from her face. If this was her katana, then that does pose a problem for Konoha. The woman was the direct definition of political power. She was a leader in Iwa, at least the last time she heard anything. Her blood ran cold. This whole situation could bring about another Ninja-war. She was quickly turning into the worst day of her life. Not only had she been insulted by some washed up, has-been kunoichi; but she actually healed the girl who could be responsible for the start of a political war-fare.

Sayuri was suddenly dizzy and nauseous. She leaned against the wall; and looked at the two Iwa nin's, "Do... you happen to know why Seleste and the injured girl were fighting?"

"I see the incredible significance of this situation hasn't escaped you" stated Akira as he watched the woman yelp and then become quite nervous. She was obviously quite worried about the whole situation and Akira felt it prudent to drive one more factor home before answering her question.

"As a member of the Iwagakure Governing Council, I think I should let you know, negotiations on maintaining peace have begun as of now. As to why they were fighting, I have no idea, but I have faith enough to trust that Seleste was fighting for a good reason."

Akira's eyes wandered to the gate once more waiting for the village representative to greet them. This situation was politically toxic and he hoped that Konoha would comply to their fullest capacity.

Sora sighed as she exited the training grounds. One down, one to go. Then she could go back home! Her clone hadn't dispersed yet, so she only guessed that it meant something good was happening. Or nothing was happening at all. Either way, it would be nice to kind of know. Sora gave a small smile at the guards in the entrance before she began sprinting back the way she came. She was going to get to Iwagakure fast, and she was going to get home by tomorrow.

Feeling that the situation had well spiraled beyond his level of understanding or control and into a realm of which he knew very little about, Shinji gladly deferred to his sensei. Accepting the paper he was handed, he had a burning urge to open it and look inside, but it seemed trivial to do so in light of what was coming to the surface at the time. Tucking it away in an unseen pouch behind his back, Shinji began to wonder if he would get back in enough time to learn the last few jutsu he had planned to learn before the exams.

Hearing his sensei's words, Shinji very naturally moved to position himself next to, but still somewhat behind his teacher as he nodded towards his statement... "Of course, you have but to ask for a sample and it is yours." Listening to the next round of realizations come as the owner of the sword seemed to be confirmed as an important political figure of the Iwagakure, Shinji would have been slightly embarrassed to say that he had never heard of her before. Luckily however, now that Akira-sensei had taken over the political negotiations, he didn't have to say anything. So, predictably, he stayed silent, trying to absorb everything that was happening around him as he secretly wondered what was in the contents of the sealed envelope that he had jsut put away.

Daichi arrived on the scene, and noticed that there were quite a few people outside the gates. He exited the gates to the small group, and bowed respecfully. "I am Daichi Lothar, Sannin of the Leaf Village. How may I help you?" He straightened, and folded his chain-laiden arms behind his back.

Akira's eyes widened as he was met by the Sannin of Konoha, partly out of shock and partly because he suddenly felt quite dizzy. Somehow, Sannin always managed to be more amazing than Kages, Akira wasn't sure why, nor was he sure why he suddenly felt so weak.

He bowed and as his eyes met those of the muscular and quite handsome Sannin, his lips went dry and his vision blurred. Was this some sort of Genjutsu? A crush? Then it occurred to Akira, why he was feeling this way; he hadn't had a drink of water in all of the journey, he was in serious need of hydration, something especially important for him.

"S-sorry, one moment" he rasped out as he slipped off his backpack and reached inside and pulled out three, one litre bottles of water, cracking one open he began to drink greedily emptying the entire litre in one long scull. Sealing the empty bottle he put it back in his back pack, along with one of the remaining full ones, but took the last bottle into his hand as he slung his back pack over his shoulders once more. Opening this one as well, he took a small sip before beginning his explanation to the Sannin.

"I am Akira Kuromiya, Jounin of Iwagakure, and serving member of the Iwa Governing Council. Initially, I came here with my student; Shinji Konaga to deliver a document from the Tsuchikage as part of our Information Exchange Treaty, however on our way here to deliver it we came across what appeared to the scene of a recent battle. We thought it suspicious, but did not have any clues to what occurred there, except that it involved a minimum of two, at least decently skilled ninja."

"However, upon arriving we found a similar battle site and learned that a wounded woman had arrived here recently, but most peculiar was, hidden near these gates was a katana of a particular make, which I believe with great certainty to be the weapon of a Chuunin of Iwa, but not just any Chuunin: Seleste Mitsalune, former wife to a Tsuchikage, a very important figure in our village."

Akira once-over'd the handsome and buff Sannin standing before him, learning what he could from sight alone.

"Surely you see what I'm getting at?"

[Ehhhhh? O.o ]
Daichi raised an eyebrow as the Iwa jonin downed a liter of water in minute that would take Daichi half an hour. What, do they not let their ninja drink, except on Tuesdays? Daichi listened to what the man said, but for some reasons the hairs on his neck stood on end. He just couldn`t put his finger on it. Hmm, it has been a while since I had a drink. He cleared his mind of these thoughts, and replied: "Ah, my condolences to the village for your difficult situation. Yes, we had the said assassin taken prisoner, and found her to be a rouge from our village. She claimed to have been acting in self defense, and thought she would be safe here. However, for dishonoring the village, she was forced to commit Seppuku. Her renains were cremated. Unfortunatly, we have no inclinatio where her highness might be." Daichi finished his account of what they had learned, albiet practically none of it was true. "Is there anything we can do to help." He asked It was not that they were trying to hurt Iwa, but they were trying to do what was best for all their allies.

"Given the great amount of blood located at the scene, that there was no sign of Seleste at Iwa, on the Death Road, or here, and that her sword, was located here, discarded and hidden I can only assume that Seleste is dead. Irregardless of why they were fighting, this girl was a rogue from here, and Seleste was a member of Iwa, thus we can only hold Konoha directly responsible for her death. The assassin's death is simply your duty, not compensation for our loss."

Akira's cold silver eyes softened to a gentle blue as he learned of the assumed killer's death. While this was still a political debacle, there was some relief in the knowledge that it was mostly sorted from a killer-victim stand-point. Akira was also sufficiently distracted by other aspects of the situation, it was very unusual for this to happen to Akira, but despite having drunk so much water he was still feeling a little light-headed. It seemed that he was slightly in awe of the Sannin; Daichi, despite how unprofessional it was, and he gave the man a small smile now that he was in extrovert mode.

"Anything you can do-"

Me

"-to help? I'm not sure these is at this time, and that is the kind of decision for an entire village to make." responded Akira, suppressing the slight heat in his face as he took another sip of water.

NPC.

Sayuri bowed when the Sannin came, and watched the exchange take place. Her eyes narrowed. Call her old school, but she didn't like it when people lied. Even more so when people lied to their allies, to cover up their own a**.

Several things happened to your body when you lie. She supposed that the Iwa nin; who were more than likely trained to look for these signs; were more than likely distracted. The genin, by the paper in his hand, and the Jounin by his (cough) dehydration. (She mentally found herself giggling), which is why they didn't see the signs. For one, when somebody lied, they're heart rate shot up. By looking at the carotid artery, she could see the blood pounding against his neck; meaning his heart was racing. The other thing about it was, is that when your making up a story, you're eyes shift downward. It was involuntarily, and most civilians didn't even realize that you're body did that. The third, was that you fidgeted. But to a trained Sanin, she didn't see that happening on him. (She mentally complemented his poker face, though, his eyes still shifted)

She hated liars the most in the world. It was something that burned deep within her. She made quiet sure, that she was never captured and interrogated on enemy territory, otherwise she was sure to spill the beans, because the loathed lying so much. Sayuri cleared her throat, to get the three men's attention, before she smiled brightly, "Seppuku? Since when did we start giving criminal's Honorary deaths reserved only for people who have done good, and died to avenge their friends? Isn't it against the code of conduct to do anything but execute a criminal with a punishment that fit their crime? An honorary death would not do for a rogue ninja," she chirped, smiling innocently. Then her eyes darkened slightly, as she looked at the Sanin, "In fact it seems impossible, that Hokage-sama would do that."
