Donovan nodded and patted Lin on the head a bit more, the nice thing about her being as small as her mother was that he could get away with it. Besides it was cute to see her slightly annoyed.
"I know, it's fun teasing her though."
Lin didn't bother to comment on that, her Dad had a weird way of showing affection sometimes, this was one of it. Though the increasing physical contact told her he really needed a nap.

Rhea giggled softly. "Indeed it is," she smiled. "But perhaps we should let you rest now. How long will you be staying here before returning home again? Will you be waiting around for the other group to return?"
The only reason he would really need to would be to hear the results of the trip, though he could just as easily be told when Lin and Kaito returned home again - though of course it would accord him more rest if he did stay, and he would be able to assist in any further planning that might be necessary.

"I'll wait until the other group comes back," Donovan murmured, "It's not like anything is going to change much back home. It'll be only the next day at the least. Don't have to worry that much about time."
Donovan's comment about time made his daughter look at him, as in really look at him.
Lin had to admit her father hadn't changed much since she had known him. He had no gray hairs, no wrinkles around the eyes or mouth... or forehead considering how much he frowned all the time. He looked pretty much the same as he always did.
She wondered if she should mention anything to him now.
"Anyhow," he broke her out of her thoughts, "I'm heading to bed, see you girls later."
And with that he left so he could get that bit of rest.

"See you," Rhea said softly, watching as he left them. When Donovan was gone, she looked down at Lin. "You think something strange is happening with him?" she asked softly. "You seem ... a little uneasy, thoughtful ..."
She didn't want to pry, but there was something about the look on Lin's face ...

"Not that it's a bad thing," Lin finally murmured after thinking about it for a few moments, "But he hasn't aged at all since I was born."
Even Lin who had grown up around a family that more or less didn't change overly that much, knew what old people looked like, or at least the moderately old.
"Vincent is as old as Dad, though probably by now a bit younger. He has a few gray hairs already, and crows feet around his eyes, but considering the stress of his job that's not surprising, but it isn't like Dad's choice of work is a walk in a park neither."

Rhea nodded thoughtfully. "I can't pretend to know anything about aging in humans," she admitted, "but that does seem something of an anomaly."
She motioned for Lin to follow her back outside. "Come on, we might as well get back to training, unless there's someone else that you wanted to see."

Lin thought about it, her mother and Miyu would probably be busy by now with the children. Giving them their full attention, and even though there wasn't a lot of children, they would still be busy.
Timeaus had probably headed straight home by now.
"Nah.... let's go train, I can visit people when things have calmed down a ibt more."

And so for two and a half more weeks, things went on as usual at the ranch. There was thought of bringing the children back home immediately in an attempt to beat any winter weather, but with the possibility that the second group might be returning with more children, Elrohir deemed it best if they waited so that everyone could be returned home, rather than just the first group.
But in the middle of the afternoon, five weeks to the day after both of the groups had left, Ahren, Halmir, Arthael, Sir Boudwin and Sir Leith rode into the ranch, and with them was riding another young woman. She was wearing only rags and had a blanket around her shoulders, but despite the state of her clothes, her hair was long and a bright gold, and the snow that was caught in it made it shimmer in the sunlight.
Haradhel was keeping an eye on the children who were playing outside when the group rode in, and she rose to her feet and watched them.

Toshiro and Miyu were also outside with Haradhel helping keep an eye on the children. When the children were around Miyu liked to spend time with them, she was most calm with children, probably because it seemed silly to be frightened of children who were probably to start out with more frightened than her. Besides she liked the snow and liked making little snow angels with the children.
Toshiro was out there because he wasn't needed anymore so hung out with Miyu. With Donovan back he had no reason to help his mother anymore, and no doubt his father would want to spend time with his two babies. Nothing made you think more about your children than having to hunt child slavers.

Haradhel watched as the group approached and dismounted, and considering the state of the girl that they had brought with them, she was stunned when her son didn't help her down from the horse.
"Welcome back," she said, stepping forward. "I see your trip was not a waste."
Once everyone had dismounted, Halmir, Arthael, Sir Boudwin and Sir Leith collected the horses and headed off to the stables.
"Mother," Ahren smiled, stepping towards her and giving her a light hug. "Thank you. No, it wasn't a waste."

Miyu stood up brushing the snow away from her dress, the girl seemed in a very poor state. It looked like she had a job to do so she quietly padded over to where Haradhel and Ahren was.
"Need help? Mi?" she murmured questioningly.
She had never seen anyone brought back this old.

The girl looked down at Miyu, her blue eyes fearful and curious as she took in the half-angel's appearance. Wings ...
She shook her head at Miyu's question. She didn't need any help. She just wanted to know where she was, and who everyone was ... but she didn't know anyone around her anymore, no one other than Ahren, and she didn't trust anyone either.

"Mi...."
Now Miyu was at a lost of what to do because medically she could see that the girl would need to be looked at, but she didn't know how to go about doing that if the girl didn't want her to do that.
"Do you want to come inside? Mi... it's warmer and can get you something hot to drink."

The girl shook her head again, then looked at Ahren, who was still talking with Haradhel.
Haradhel caught the look, and she smiled at Ahren and put one hand on his shoulder. "Why don't we talk inside?" she murmured. "I'm sure your friend would appreciate warming up a bit."
Ahren flushed slightly. "Right." He turned to face the girl. "Come, Shiara. We'll go inside and get you warmed up, all right?"
He held out one hand to him, but Shiara stepped around him and headed towards the house.

"Mi?" Miyu tilted her head in confusion and followed after Shiara.
She didn't know how to read this person at all, then again she hadn't really been a people person so her people reading skills weren't so good. How strange she thought.
