[[Need me to take on any characters to keep this going? I'd be happy to help.]]

Lexi blinked at the boxes in Alex’s hands. TMs? No way! I haven’t seen one of those for ages. She took the box that was handed to her and looked it over. Thirty-two, huh?...that’s the shadow-clone move, double team, right? Unfortunately, having missed Phoenix setting off Rex’s smog, she didn’t know how fitting for her team a move called ‘double team’ really was.

Then Lexi wandered on into the bunker, looking at the cabnets and all the stuff spread out across the room. To most people, the scattered equipment looked like junk…well, it looked like junk, or at least really old, to Lexi too, but a lot of it was junk she had never seen before outside of images: piles of empty glass tubes and bottles twisted into odd shapes, power supplies and wire up the kazoo. For a little while, what had happened outside took a back seat to her curiosity. She walked over to shelf that held a stack of small drawers, each only about two inches wide. 100Ω…256Ω…TI741… The labels would confuse some people, even not heavily dusted over, but they were speaking a language she knew, which she confirmed by opening one with an omega in its label and finding colorful resistors inside. It wasn’t perfect understanding…she blew dust off of one box, and couldn’t quite figure out what it was even after she stopped giving off gale-force sneezes...but…ten years ago, ten years would have been a huge gap in technology…now…yeah...She grabbed the pokeballs as she passed by, tossing one to Gerard and putting the other in her pocket, and when her exploration turned up a potion, it joined the TM in her hand.

Then she saw the cabinet that had originally caught her eye and brought her inside. Flowers… She couldn’t be sure. The ones at the post office that morning had been small, but it was possible it was the same design. “Hey Alex…Look familiar?” She wasn’t sure whether to be worried or curious if the mark had indeed shown up in both places. Both mark looked old, but she didn’t know how old the Exterminant was either…was it an old trail written by those who built the bunker or moved into it…or a newer one written by the packs? Either way, she was curious, and she opened the cabinet.

((To Joe and Shaula: been reading your posts and have loved seeing your characters develop. I hope I can do just as good a job with Alex. And onwards we go!))

Alex flinched at the sound of her name. "Huh? O-oh..." Most people in the Exterminant didn't use her first name if they even used her name at all. To hear someone use her name so nicely was a completely new experience. Her eyes widened as she looked at the roses on the cabinet and started scratching her arms. Hard. She had a bad habit of scratching her arms whenever she felt afraid.

"I remember those roses," she mumbled. She also remembered being scarily high on drugs while seeing similar roses. She shook her head and attempted to stop scratching her arms. No. I need to stop thinking about the past. I have to focus on the present. If not for me, then for Lexi and Gerard. Alex walked up to the cabinet and traced the green roses with a shaky hand. "You know, I never did like roses. As pretty as they are, they would scratch my hands every time I touched them."

That said, she waited to see what was inside the cabinet. If it was something dangerous, she was ready to push Lexi out of the way.

Juno was carefully scooting away from the snorlax and trying to catch up to Evie. She saw Evie had caught the older woman and was ferociously tearing at the ankle. "Stop!" Evie heard the teen's command and immediately halted her actions.

The young girl ran up to hear the last part of Paul's speech. Overkill much? She really wanted to sass the man and tell him he wasn't invincible, but this wasn't the time to do that. "Look. Just tell us where the exit is and we'll be out of here." She looked up at Paul with a slight glare. "This woman already tried to kill us; she'll have more chances if we stay here longer. And if we take her back, the psychic pokemon could take us out in no time without ever having to hurt their cult leader." Her knuckles were white - from anger or adrenaline, she wasn't sure. "You want your stuff, you go ahead and then catch up with me. But I'm not staying here any longer than I have to."

She stared at Jñan with pity and hurt. I really want to hate her. "Point towards the exit. Now."

((Aww, thanks love. blaugh ))

Gerard allowed Lexi to walk into the bunker, still standing where he had been when he helped her up, and waited until Justice came and stood next to him.

"Lar?" Gerard's emerald companion murmured as it nudged his hand. Blinking as he awoke from his private contemplation about the import of what he had just said to Lexi - things he had never been fully able to admit to himself - Gerard smiled and rubbed Justice's head.

"Yeah," he said, "Let's go." He followed after Lexi into the bunker, following her lead by waiting a few seconds before proceeding. When she posed her question, he nodded. "Anything we can find would be helpful. Glenville is going to be trashed, so anything we can bring back would be a blessing." He received his Technical Machine with an appreciative bow towards Alex, running a finger along the painted 20. Not sure what this one is, off the top of my head, Gerard mused as he set it aside briefly.

He caught the thrown Pokeball deftly, smiling as he remembered how his little sister used to throw Pokeballs at him in their family's shop. Gerard placed it next to his TM before glimpsing movement; spotting the Pokeball, he took two strides over to it, picked it up, and looked at it with interest. Justice was standing close by his side, silently observing, his wide eyes locked on the Pokeball.

The trainer turned so that he was facing the center of the room, activating the Pokeball and tossing it lightly out in front of him. With a red flash and a high-pitched whine, the Pokeball burst, temporarily blinding those looking at it. When their sight cleared, they beheld a confused-looking ralts as it stared around it. When it saw Gerard and Justice, it flinched away, but the young man came forward slowly and knelt to its level. He extended a hand, and after a few seconds of agonizing immobility and silence, the ralts put out a hand and lightly touched the ends of Gerard's fingers.

"I'll call you...Style," Gerard said, smiling at his new companion. "Welcome to our team, Style." The ralts piped happily as Gerard stood to see what the girls were up to.

Paul's grin died like a toad run over by a car - instantly. It settled back into his angry poker face. He turned his head to Juno ever so slightly, his eyes still on Jñan - he wasn't letting a distraction let her get away with something. "Girl, we leave this place without what we came here with, you die," Paul told her levelly. He was careful to substitute 'you' for 'we'; that would be a stupid slip-up. "I haven't wasted my time for someone who's unwilling to finish the job. Raj has no intention of stopping us, if he did he would've probably already done something. He wanted us to leave, and the only safe way to leave is by vehicle. We have to go back."

He paused for a moment; she still didn't trust him. Maybe it was because he tended to do things without consulting her. Yeah, that was probably it. Consulting her, though, had so far yielded nothing but disappointment, and that was to be expected. She was clever, but she hadn't seen the field of battle like he had. Some sort of balance, then, between taking and accepting her opinion, and taking and ignoring her opinion. He had to be her friend to protect her, because young or not, she had a heart of steel. The plucky ones were always the most annoying, really.

"Trust me. I've done this before." He glanced to make eye contact for a second before turning back to Jñan. "I know what I'm doing."

Jñan looked up from her position on the ground, still considering every option as she listened to Juno and Paul clash. Paul's insistence of immortality brought a slow, curling smile to her lips; it was clear what he was trying to do to her, and she was by no means that terrified. She accepted the offer of his hand and stood, slowly and nervously brushing her dresses off, especially the part he had stepped on, all the while keeping the knife in her peripheral vision. When Juno asked, Jñan immediately pointed out the path towards the exit. She ignored what Paul said in response. "Continue down this passageway for three hundred yards and make a left. A hundred yards later there will be a ladder going up. A manhole cover opens to what used to a blasted water main near Riverdale." She suddenly clenched her teeth and eyes in nervousness, making a decision she clearly did not to, but a quick glance at Paul told her she had no choice.

Moving slowly so as not to attract unwarranted attention, the woman reached into her folds of clothing and withdrew a small vial. "There's a gyrados there that was going to be my last attempt to kill you. But... but Juno Galledeigh, you have been chosen to save this world, and I cannot stop that, even if my ideals do not mesh precisely with those who sent you. This will calm the beast if you release it into what remains of the water flow." She blinked. "You have my word."

((okay, so fatigue has hit me due to a recent series of events, so I will catch up with everyone else tomorrow. +3 AP to Bayer for the fanart; that is fantastic. If it's not much trouble, I'd like for people to start recruiting again - we've had several people drop, likely due to my very sporadic posting >>" I'm going fishing for RP-ers again soon, and I encourage you all to firestorm the masses like Dresden with invitations and advertisements, if that so suits your fancy biggrin I apologize for my long absence; various irl events made posting nigh impossible. This will be soon remedied; promise ^^ ))

Paul frowned, prepared to push his plan even further, and then realized that she wasn't stupid. That was the weak part of the plan. Well, he'd prove it to her yet. That wasn't the right approach right now, though. Frowning, Paul tapped her on the shoulder, letting the knife fall a little. "Jñan, if you're willing to help us, help us all the way. We can get out and walk, but we'll be nearly helpless, even with our pokémon, if we don't get our equipment back. I'm rather attached to a few items I've had taken from me; please, just send someone to deliver them to me." He had another thought. "And if you'd like, you could send Willam with us, I guess. Not my favorite idea, but it gets him out of your hair and it gets us an extra gun." An extra untrustworthy gun, but they always needed bullet sponges. "Your world down here is tranquil, but you know what it's like out there. We could use him for something good."

It was a hard turn to make; Paul really wanted to just push force on her, but he was starting to learn that that wouldn't work. Not with Juno, not with Jñan. This diplomacy thing had never worked for him before. His world didn't allow for it. His world was one where the only winner was the one who pulled the trigger first, and he was starting to experience whiplash from having to change directions. He had to keep at it, though. A show of faith... would leave him with at least not an enemy behind him. If he didn't get the guns, though, he was... in trouble.

Juno had relaxed the minute Paul uttered the words "trust me." She'd even given him a small wry smile. That was all she really wanted - for him to actually showed that he CARED for her. It really hadn't been too much to ask, had it?She walked up to his side and kept her slingshot at the ready.

Right now, she felt like she could trust Paul a lot more than before. He'd gone from a -2 on her Scale of Likeableness to a 5.5 (the burning tunnel move was what got him into the negatives of her scale).

But this wasn't the time to contemplate where exactly Paul ought to land on her scale of judgment. "Please, Jñan, get us our stuff back." She quickly took the bottle out of the offered hand and stuffed it in her pants pocket. "If you really think I can save this world, then you ought to be helping us, not hindering us with your murder attempts."

"Willam can go wherever he damn well pleases, army mutt," a callous voice jeered through the damped echoes of the makeshift hallways. He licked his hand and rubbed it through his hair in an attempt to straighten it as he stepped into the trio's line of sight, his eyes and slick grin focused on Juno. "And he pleases by following a pretty young lady." With weapons hanging off every inch of his person, as before, the boy strutted down the passage towards the remains of the battle.

Jñan glared at him the whole way. She had known he was unstable when she first suggested to him to do away with Paul, just as she had known when Paul first came that he was a dangerous one to allow to leave; where Paul had too many ideals, Willam had too few. "Why do you wander so far from the Haven, child?"

"Because I know you're a lying b***h." He shrugged. "And I know I can't survive solo for long, so now that I've robbed the Haven blind, you're helpless, my man McCulloch is exhausted, Juno's on her way out, and both of them need a guide to get out of here, I thought I'd make off with what I could. Jarhead, your bike's a hundred yards back that way." He jerked his thumb over his shoulder. "My Wrench and I pulled it up here while you were discussing things with our wonderful Light." He smirked darkly as he positioned himself next to Juno.

As Lexi opened the door, a series of large, black shapes flew past her head and arranged themselves in a triangle at the top of the bunker. They were shaped like the letters B, L, and E, and appeared to have emerged from an envelope stamped with the same green roses as the outside of the cabinet. Once arranged, single eyes in the middle of each unown glowed brightly and projected an image of an elderly woman, the same seen in the laboratories what seemed to long ago, at the same battered desk as before, but this time, there was an alakazam standing next to her. "Hello again!" she said brightly, "This is Nebule; he's my alakazam, and he has power as I have never known. They locked him down here with me as my sole comfort, so he and I have been..." The image cut out again, and the three unown were now seen to have transformed - the B to an H, the L to a K, and the E to an R. They flew back inside the envelope with a rush of air and without actually seeming to take up any space, and the scene was done. Alex appeared to only half notice the letter, or the illusion, at all. The children were free to get back on the road.

"Well, Mr. Ulysses, I think ev'n a crazy world needs to give better to its chillen, but Lawd knows I ain't got a say in things nah, just a woman who needs to do her part, and you can he'p me out by choppin' celery. Take this." She handed him a kitchen knife and pointed out a pile of celery. "Nah tell me, how well did you know Mrs. Oak? You grow up 'round heah?" A tiny spark caught in the woman's eye as she asked that last question, as though it was leading elsewhere.

((Didn't even have to spend AP. cool ))

Paul rolled his eyes but grinned nonetheless. The boy was all too willing. He was a risk, but not one Paul couldn't handle. His head was large and his hands were unsteady - a dangerous criminal, maybe competent with a handgun, but that wouldn't save him from Paul's wrath - if it came down to that, which it wouldn't. Paul had a decent feeling about the guy. Anyway, it was time to recollect his equipment.

"Alright then. Not Juno's bike? Guess she'll just have to ride with one of the two of us," Paul shrugged before sheathing his (stolen) knife and moving back to his bike. It didn't take long to find, and to his glee, Willam and his 'Wrench' had apparently associated Paul's rifle and pistol with it. Since they had felt the need to remove his guns but not his ammo, he was already loaded and ready to ride. He debated how wise it would be to start the bike in the cave, and instead shifted the bike into neutral and kicked it back to Willam and Juno, declaring "Ready to go?" as he came.

The flash of black that shot out of the cabinet made Lexi duck as it whizzed over her head, and only after the black blur separated out into three distinct shapes on the ceiling did she straighten up. Unown?! She then watched on as they projected an image of a familiar face, frowning in her rapt attention. You again?...I guess the Howards did know you, but I thought they said this place was something they only used after the Calamity… She looked at the room in the image, pairing it up with what the woman was saying. So that place was her prison…though she seems too happy to have been there long…

The projection cutting out caused Lexi to spin, her thoughts going to something in the area affecting the letter pokemon’s ability to project, but the place was still quiet, so she looked back to the letters on the ceiling. Hey wait…those aren’t the same letters… With that, the letters shot back into an envelope sitting in the now-open cabinet. When she walked over to look at the envelope, she never would have guessed that three pokemon could have fit in there if she hadn’t seen it happen. The envelope also had another piece of paper in it, but with the her curiosity for the bunker satisfied, the place was now falling back into the ‘creepy’ category, and she didn’t feel like sticking around much longer just to read something she could take with her…She grabbed the envelope, adding it to the pile in her hand, and took a few steps toward the door before stopping.

Unfortunately, leaving had its own disadvantages, namely THE MESS. Lexi swallowed as she realized this and her voice came out slightly hoarse. “I don’t suppose you guys have any idea what to do with our friends from earlier? Do we just leave them there or what?”

Well now, wasn't Juno a lucky girl? Another person wanted to follow her. That's it. I'm a trouble magnet. She really had no idea how this was gonna turn, but hey, he seemed to be helping out. "Thanks dude." But you're still gonna have to go through the gauntlet like Creepy Stalker Dude.

She looked down at Evie and said, "Sorry girl, but you're gonna need to get back in here." She pulled out her pokeball to show the young creature. Evie sneezed as if to say "if you must." Nothing else was said as the pokemon returned to its cage. She liked keeping the fox-like creature out in the open, but with limited space, it just wasn't going to be easy to keep doing that. She quickly pocketed the pokeball and turned to see William.

With a smirk, she slightly elbowed the older teen and walked towards the bike. "Shall we?" Paul seemed more than ready to go. "Now who said I had to be the one riding and not driving?" Her voice was teasing as she was only joking around. "But whatever." She smirked at Willam. "You driving or am I?" It wasn't that she didn't trust Paul enough to ride with him. It was that she liked having her own vehicle even if it was only in her imagination.

But there's also the fact that should he decide to split off from Paul, I could still have a chance at keeping this bike and then find Paul again. That is, if he wasn't able to chase us. As the driver, she'd ensure that she had control of where they were going. As the passenger, she could strangle him with the bandages on her arms. Then again, I'd have to worry about him shooting me in the back.

People were confusing.

-----------

Alex, contrary to how she appeared, was paying close attention to the illusion. She had no idea who the woman was. She had no idea what the point of the message was. She was wondering why the message got cut short. "Do either of you know who the woman is?" Perhaps the kids (she internally snorted at the thought) knew that lady. Alex's voice sounded slightly different now - calm and perhaps a bit sad.

"Actually, why don't you tell me what you know while we get going?" The faster they got to wherever they were heading, the faster they got to relative safety. I wonder how the people will react to me once we get to our destination? She lightly scratched her arms at the thought.

Though Alex was shy, awkward and seemed to have no idea what was going on around her, she was amazingly aware of her surroundings. Some of the non-fighting assassin training stuck to her while sober. But even with my knowledge, I STILL cower at the thought of fighting. But...but I'm going to change. I'm going to become a better person. Starting with not fearing everything so much.

As the group headed out to the vehicles, she started wondering more about herself. She had three modes of personality: Scared Mode, Sober/Somber Mode, and Drug Mode. She wasn't going to use Drug Mode ever again if she could help it. Scared Mode was something she was working on. Now that she'd been with these two kids for a while, she felt safe-ish enough to reveal her true personality. I just need to take this one step at a time.
