Iri brightly smiles and looks over her shoulder, making sure he can see the expression on her face. Pride shines in her eyes.

"You learn fast. Now, just apply that to yourself, and we'll have a few less problems, won't we?"

The avian laughs and stops to turn a knob and gain access to her room. She walks in, obviously not caring if Dalcon follows. Her target in the burlap sack next to her bed.

"I guess going so long with nothing other than daydreams and guesses makes me nervous, is all. Suppose I understand how you felt. Now, let's see here..."

Iri stops talking and pulls a smaller bag out of her supply bag. From the smaller bag, she produces a scroll. It's parchment paper, indicating its age. The smaller bag gets dropped and Iri walks over to her bed. She sits down and unties the red ribbon inhibiting the document. The scroll unfurls and Iri looks it over.

"Seems like it's someone's research paper..." Iri mutters. She looks at Dalcon and shrugs a wing. Then she brings her attention back to the scroll and begins to read.

Dalcon politely keeps his distance, leaning against the doorpost. He's curious, but doesn't want to interrupt. He crosses his arms and looks up at the ceiling, somewhere in the borderland between meditation and scholarly daydreaming.

Without looking up, Iri says, "You could be practicing. I don't expect much at this point. Just try to summon energy on your own. You remember what it felt like. Generally, it originates from the pit of your stomach. See if you can bring some of it out. But only a little at a time. After that, try to manipulate the air with it. Don't be afraid to ask questions..."

Iri trails off after that. Her eyes narrow. Apparently, she's come across something worrisome.

Even though she can't see, Dalcon nods politely and heads to the front yard to practice what little he knows. He starts with the old standby of trying to walk up one of the windmills by use of chakra.

Iri does notice, and returns the gesture as her student leaves. After that, she's right back to reading. This is turning out to be worse than what she thought. Thank goodness she's calm by nature...

Iri walks out of her room. The scroll is nowhere to be seen, so she must have returned it to its place in her bag. Her eyes are a little distant. Not that she looks depressed. Rather, she just looks thoughtful. A tessen is in her hand, and she idly snaps it open and closed as she walks down the hall toward the stairs.

Sitting at the top of the stairs is Jin. He's sitting on the edge of the floor, where he can't prevent Iri from exiting the basement.

"Ah heard ya 'n yer young friend talkin'. Sommat wrong? Whate'er it be, Ah will nah judge ya fer it."

The avian stops and looks up at him. For a moment, she's still silent and thoughtful. Then she grins and laughs a little.

"No, there's nothing wrong. I think it's fitting, really. I always protested to being called an angel, and now I know why."

Iri continues up the stairs until she's standing next to the spot Jin's sitting in.

Jin quirks a brow and looks up at his instructor.

"So, whatcha be? If yer no angel, then be ya a devil?"

Iri shrugs her wings.

"Something like that. Ever heard of a Fury? Apparently, I'm a badder broad than what I thought. I just don't know it yet."

That said, Iri heads outside to look for her youngest student.

Jin's blue eyes blink. And they blink again.

"Fury? 'N Ah thought Ah were scary bein' a dragon. 'Least Ah not vicious by nature. 'N fittin' that it be a woman. Oh well, Ah'm the one chose her subject ta learn."

Outside, Dalcon is hanging off one of the windmill's blades by his feet, glued there by chakra. As it spins round and round, he entertains himself by doing sit-ups.
"Uurgh..."

Iri looks around, thinking she hears something strange. But what is it? Ande where? Is it above her? Sounds like something's hanging off of the windmill blades. Maybe some poor bird got caught...

The avian tilts her head back and stares up. Violet eyes widen and Iri gasps.

"The hell!? Dalcon! How the f*** did you get up there!? Kid, I'm not gonna be held responsible when your father comes back lookin' for you and you've been sliced up by that thing! You'd better not make pretty colors on my Dojo, either!"

From inside, Jin hears shouting. The dragon gets to his feet and steps out the door. He follows Iri's line of sight to the windmill blades. Instead of fearing for the boy, Jin just points and laughs.

"Dat ffff! Oh, come now. The bugger be bold, ya gotta give 'im that much! Whate'er ya do, do nah try ta follow anythin' 'round ya, laddie. She's one that'll make ya clean up the mess! Heheheh." Jin looks to his teacher and widely grins. "Ah think Ah like this lad. 'N do nah worry 'bout 'im. You'll on'y hurt his pride."

Iri rolls her eyes. "Boys and their pride. Damn it all." Then, remembering the dangerous ways in which she used to train, and suddenly feeling like a hypocrite, she says, "At least he's creative."

At the height of the blade's arc, Dalcon simply lets go and falls back to earth, a simple, single backflip facing him the right way up. However, as he touches terra firma, the effects of a couple hours spinning hits him. He stumbles over to Iri, looking very shaky.
"G-gonna vomit.."

Iri's eyes shoot back open and she takes a step back from her student.

"Well then why are ya gettin' so close to me? Don't you puke on me! J-Jin!"

Jin, however, is too busy laughing and pointing. He's not laughing at Dalcon. Oh no. He's laughing at Iri. The avian woman's reaction is priceless. Besides, how often does one get a chance to poke fun at his or her teacher? The moment simply can not be wasted.

Reddening in the face at Jin's laughter, Iri manages to stifle a few curse words. Then she walks around and behind Dalcon. From there, she puts her hands on his shoulders to steady him and starts to mutter, "Breathe, just breathe, and keep facing that direction if you really must puke, please face that direction, close your eyes and breathe..."

Little does Dalcon know, Iri is squeamish. Not of a lot of things. Blood and vomit seem to make her stomach churn. So she really hopes his keeps his cookies down.

Dalcon coughs and sniffles a bit. "G-gonna be okay... just...urgh. Enjoy your summer readin'?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 29, 2009 9:07 pm

At first, Iri doesn't respond. Then she gives a little lopsided smile and nods. "It was enlightening. Answered a lot of questions I've been asking myself since I was old enough to wonder about my origins. Eventually, it could be useful information, too."

Seeing that Dalcon's a little les likely to lose his lunch, Iri lets go of him and move so she can face both her students. "In fact, there's something I want to try. And while I'm doing that, I want the two of you to keep practicing. Jin!"

The dragon wipes a tear from the corner of his eye and ceases his laughter. "Oi! Orders, teach?"

"Yes. I want you to start working on wind blades. It's not difficult. Just imagine your hand as a blade, or unsheathe your sword, and use the edge as a template. Run your energy along the edge of your hand or your blade, concentrate the air there, and sling it. I don't expect you to cut anything with it on your first try. It always starts out as a blunt attack."

Jin nods and gives his teacher a mock salute. "Aye, aye!"

That said, Jin trots off in the direction of the Main Dojo. He'll make his way into the woods separating the Kaze Dojo and Main Dojo, and choose targets from there.

Iri smiles as he leaves. Then she looks back to Dalcon. "As for you, what would you like to practice on? Anything you have in mind, or do you want me to give you an assignment?"

"Umm, actually, while I was up there I noticed that...well...that robot thing is back," Dalcon says apprehensively. "What should we do?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 29, 2009 9:36 pm

One slender brow quirks. "For the moment, nothing. If that thing's back, I bet you anything Kaimen knows about it. He's the Tsuchi master, and I bet he's been monitoring the area for disturbances big enough to be the mech's footsteps. Or more signs of whatever it did to that forest. If and when he needs me, he'll contact me."

Iri glances away just in time to watch Jin disappear into the woods. She narrows her eyes for a moment, thinking. Then she starts to walk in the other direction, further away from the Main Dojo rather than closer.

"If my idea is to be tested, I want a very quiet spot for my first try. I already have a place in mind. Want to come with?"

"Umm, sure," Dalcon says, padding along behind her.
