"It's more the military giving us a good suggestion than anything else." Jarred strapped in, sitting next to Pen, whom he had every intent of not coming off the high that came when he found she was not, in fact, dead, as he was still on it.

"It's more the military giving us a good suggestion than anything else." Jarred strapped in, sitting next to Pen, whom he had every intent of not coming off the high that came when he found she was not, in fact, dead, as he was still on it.
Eric raised an eyebrow, guiding the ship out of it's cradle, nosing it up to the Fleet's gathered location.
"A strong suggestion or a good one? If it's a strong one, they mean to make me bite the pillow if I disobey it. If it's a good suggestion, then I disobey it, and if I get ******** up, it's no one's fault but mine."

Pen reached over, taking Jarred's hand and holding it, before glancing back at Eric. "So is that a 'yes, we will be getting involved'? or a 'let's abide by the military's fancy suggestion'?"

As the fleet drew nearer they began receiving more and more distress calls, the planet more or less being raped by the kore.

"Well, that depends on how many of the sons bitches decide to skip planet, and how well covered the Empire has it. If we got a lot of runners, then I'll get involved. Otherwise, it'll be like watching a really good war flick."

The Empire's fleet warped in, scores of ships, large and small moving in to attack. Smaller ships flew at breakneck speeds towards the Kore fleet, dropping smaller bubble drones before turning away from the battle, the bubble drones activating, opening fire on the enemy.

Svarly shook her head, "Nah, hit me again."

((Apologies for the lateness of the shuffle.))
Svarlena: Death (Q of Spades) and Twygal (A of Hearts) faceup for 11 points, plus Xeen (2 of Diamonds) for facedown, total of 13 points. Woman: The Prisoners (7 of Spades) faceup, plus Techie/Cross (3 of Clubs) facedown, total of 10 points.
The woman quietly flipped down another card, this one with Ora painted on it. The Jack of Hearts. "11 and the Jack... You're 21 just with face-ups. Player loses. Dealer takes a hit."

The woman flipped one down for herself, this one painted with a strange combination of swirls and beams of light around a woman who looked a bit like the late Rogue of Cebidata. The 5 of Clubs. She frowned for a second, then repeated, "Dealer takes a hit." This time the card was a forlorn-looking girl in a gray cloak, surrounded by wisps of fog. The 9 of Diamonds.

The woman's mouth twisted, and she gathered up the cards, explaining, "I had a 3 facedown, but I was one over even with faceup cards. Dealer and Player both forfeit the pot, so it stays put for the next game."

She started dealing out cards again.

((I keep paying more attention to who is on the cards rather than the cards themselves. rofl ))

Svarly's smile twinged, and she sat back a bit as the cards were dealt again.

((I'd give you the list, but I like teasing it out. xd Is there anyone you're curious about?))

Several hours of winning, losing, and forfeiting later, Svarlena's cellmate had had enough.

"Bleh," she said in exasperation. "You know the game. I can only do this so long without real money. You want to know about the cards? They're the only prop I've got, and the stories can take a while if you ask questions. I swear, we get drilled on these things when we join. FOX 12 only knows why, but... I still remember most of them. If you want?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 02, 2009 9:13 pm

((Yes yes. If I'm remembering correctly wasn't there a Ruby/Arch card? And who is the girl that's cloaked with whispy smoke stuff?))

Svarly chuckled, "Boring as hell without money...but stories are nice." She reached into the deck randomly and pulled a card, showing it to the FOX without looking at it herself. "Tell me about this one."

((Very true! Although, it's Duck and Rose, not Arch and Ruby proper. 3nodding And the wispy girl is Wanderer [Gil] Ala--Gil Ala is the Mirror version of neo A.C., in the same world as Duck+Rose and the rogue mage. When the Rogue of Cebidata dies, the rogue mage vanishes, and this has as profound an impact on Gil Ala as it did on neo A.C. Instead of being taken over by ghosts and becoming Dem, though, Gil Ala leaves her camp of gypsies and goes wandering by herself, getting into all sorts of misadventures. ^_^ But she's very lost and lonely for a long time. D= ))

Her cellmate turned her head to the side and spat. "You would pick the wildcard first. Check it. It's blank. Well, except for that weird mark, of course... There. That thing that looks like an E and a D smashed together?" She pointed. "Creepiest card in the whole d*mn deck. The eight of spades, which is weird enough--traditional wild card is a joker, the 53rd card--but it changes. I'll swear to whatever powers you want, that thing changes in play. I saw this thing once that even looked like a man turning into a giraffe! But it's always blank when the game is over."

She eyed it suspiciously. "According to Herself, that card represents some weird goddess with a funny Gaelic name. Not that she can talk about funny Gaelic names, if what I hear is true... or that I can." She let slip half a shrug, referring to their "Brighid" discussion of before.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 02, 2009 10:57 pm

((Ah, yes, Duck and Rose. Ah, neo AC mirror, I can see how that would fit.))

"That is a bit odd." Svarly flipped the card around, which she'd randomly picked. She made a small face at the emptiness aside from the mark. "Care if I ask what funny Gaelic name this is?"

The woman made a face. "I can spell it. Don't remember how to pronounce part of it. E-U-L-A-L-I-A Danae? It's the stupidest card in the deck, in my opinion. There are a few cards with dead people, and a couple we were told right off the bat that we'd never even hear about the people on them, but this one? Some old goddess, who works behind the scenes but who we'll never meet or hear about?" She rolled her eyes and shook her head, adding, "Yeah, makes tons of sense to have that in there..."

(( smile *cheeky*))

((>.>' didn't want to be too prideful and assume it was me right off the bat.))

Svarly shrugged, "She sounds like a b***h." She let out a quiet chuckle, "Sure that it's just not a joke card that someone threw in for fun?"

((Oh, but how could I forget you? You make things fun. XD ))

"Are you kidding?! Of course that's what it is! There's no way this sucker is supposed to be real." She scowled. "Really, I just wanna know the tech behind it. Everyone checks these things out when they first get 'em, determining all the properties and junk, but I got mine under quantum observation for the duration of a game, and I still can't figure out how it works. It can't just be normal laminite, but that's all that comes up."

Indeed, all the cards did have the smooth, slightly abrasive feel of the modern card-making material laminite. Though the pictures and designs appeared hand-painted, there were no indentions or grains in the cards.
