James slowly stood up, ignoring Ali for the most part. His eyes were narrowed into slits and his face was blank, that in itself scary as he normally smiled all the time. He made his way over to Alexis slowly, and reached down at her. He picked her up by her collar, lifting her up as high as he could. "You..I.." he started, his voice suddenly full of malice that was not natural, even moreso for James. He pulled his other hand back, like he was going to slap her and he did indeed send his hand forward. But instead of slapping her, it instead gently touched her shoulder. A soothing feeling began to flow through the air, and the wounds Alexis had sustained began to fade away.
He removed his hand from her shoulder and gently dropped her onto the ground, turning his cold eyes from her. He set them on Ali, and the softened a great deal. A faint, gentle smile returned to him as he lifted his hand and placed it on Ali's cheek, the same comforting, soothing feel returning. Ali would feel her stength return slowly and James himself once more collapsed onto the ground on his butt, winded and wounded. He ignored Alexis and Ali both for the moment, regaining his proper tone and form before he said anything further.

Alexis closed her eyes, her feet dangling off the ground. She was waiting for the collision of his hand against her face, but instead a peaceful, soothing feeling began to run through her body. She opened one of her sapphire eyes and looked down. She sighed, relieved she wasn't about to be slapped hard in the face. For some reason, James was a person she didn't want to fight. Which was a first for her. She sighed once she was put back down. She looked over at the two, watching as James did the same thing he had done to her to Ali. She sighed and sat back down, a far distance from the two.
Ali too thought James was going to slap Alexis and opened her mouth to stop him, but then closed it, seeing him touch her shoulder and then set her down. She sighed, a small smile running across her face as the soothing feeling came. She took a deep breath and her smile faded as she turned and looked over at him. "James... are you mad at me?" she asked quietly, looking down at the ground.

James was currently leaning back on his elbows, eyes closed and staring off into nothing. He finally pushed himself up and opened his eyes. He walked over to Alexis slowly, and kneeled down. He gently wrapped his left arm around her waist and picked her up slowly. He turned to Ali and walked over to her, repeating the action on her with his right arm. Once he had the set of them, he walked carefully over to a nearby bench and sat down.
He pulled both of them as close to him as possible and leaned his head against Ali gently. "I'm not mad at eiather of you." he said calmly, closing his eyes once more. He pulled them both a little closer and smiled slightly. "You two are going to drive me insane, I can just tell now." he added, then chuckled. "Hopefully it's a good insane."

Ali leaned her head against his. She smiled. "Well, we drive each other insane. Might as well bring you into the loop," she said, laughing slightly. She sighed. "James... what was that guy?"
Alexis simply took a deep breath and stayed quiet, leaning against James a bit. She felt suddenly tired.

James sighed softly and let go of Alexis for a moment. He used his now free hand to pull his gigantic cloak free from his back and gently place it over Alexis, then repeated the process with Ali. He didn't feel like them catching a cold, as it had begun to get a lot colder in the courtyard. "Ah..That man..His name is Alkarjin Fleirnar, and he is a Fifone. Fifone are..well, more or less they are a race of living skeletons..Most of them are quite friendly, but Alkarjin has developed a reputation of disliking being insulted in any way.." he said, then turned his head to Alexis and smirked. "Alkarjin is one of two Fifone generals, and commands most of the higher ranking duties of the Fifone army." he added, his tone saying something along the lines of 'Thus, it was a bad idea to insult him.'

Ali cringed upon hearing what he was. She shivered, snuggling closer to James. "Well, it wasn't a very good idea to insult him then, WAS IT ALEX!?"
Alexis rolled her eyes, not showing that she was cold. "Oh shut up!"
"You could have been killed! You could have just said 'Sorry for bumping into your sir' instead of calling him a gothic b*****d!"
Alexis merely fingered her sister and turned away, crossing her arms.

James chuckled softly at the two and shook his head, then leaned back a bit. He pulled them a bit closer to ward off the winds and smirked to himself. His closed eyes and soft breathing might make some think he was asleep, but instead he was simply relaxing, enjoying the amusement of the two sisters fighting. He opened one eye and looked over at Alexis, then turned to Ali and smiled at her. He didn't say anything, just leaned in and have her a quiet kiss.

"And that time when we were six and I threw my doll and it accidentaly hit you, you could have just accepted my apology instead of shredding it into a million pieces! It was an accident! And we were seven, when you split orange juice all of the table, you---" But suddenly there was a mouth over hers. She smiled, closing her eyes, leaning into the quiet kiss.
"I could have what?" Alexis snapped. She still had her back turned to the two. She turned around, furioiusly wondering why the hell her sister had stopped so suddenly and then made a gagging noise upon seeing James kiss her identical sister.

Jame grinned at Ali as he broke the kiss and then turned to Alexis, smirking brightly. "I'd kiss you too, but Ali might not like that." he said with a chuckle, then pulled Ali closer to him and grinned. "Besides, I might give you, oooh, James kooties or something." he said, chuckling slightly. He then pulled Alexis closer and lifted his arm from Ali and gave Alexis what could best be described as a noogie. He then patted her head and began to chuckle softly.

"Ugh, only a moron would want to be kissed by you," She smoothed her hair, glaring at him. "You did NOT just give me a noogie," she said, hitting him on the arm.
Ali rolled her eyes. "Yes, yes he did," She stood. "I'll be right back. I'm going to go get my sweater,"
Alexis watched as her sister left. She was suddenly very silent, a memory flashing through her brain. She sighed quietly.

James gave a mock 'Oh the pain!' when Alexis hit him, and then waved to Ali as she walked off. He leaned back against the chair, staring up into the sky blankly, as if the colors and shapes within had suddenly become the most important thing in the world. He suddenly tiltled over, placing his head on Alexis's shoulder. "Something wrong? You're quiet."

Alexis sighed. "I was just thinking... of the time that I almost lost Ali," she said quietly. Then, without really meaning it, she began to pour the story out. "We were four and practically joined by the hip. We were always together. It was almost our fifth birthday and we were playing out in our backyard up in the big tree house. We were going to have a pretend camp out in the tree house, and Ali felt the need that we had to have twigs for our pretend fire. Our house is right next to a big revene. So, she went out into the revene and I waited up in the tree house. I just remember playing in there, re-arranging out pillows and blankets. We weren't really going to sleep up there of course, but we felt we needed everything to be perfect. It was silent, except for the sound of the few floor boards that creeked when you walked on them. Then out of nowhere, this horrible, high pitched scream came from within the forest," She took a deep breath, not looking at him. Instead she was looking at the ground.
"I ran down from the tree house; well, actually I slid down the super long slide our father had built. My father came rushing out of the house before I had even gotten to the ground. My mother came out seconds after him. Once they only saw me, they knew something was wrong. There was barely a time when Ali and I weren't together. Our father ran into the forest, while my mother and I waited in the parlor. My cheeks were puffy from crying and my mom kept looking out of the window. Finally by dusk, my father returned to the house with a little limp, purple haired figure in his arms. Ali had been attacked by a wolf.
"She had horrible gashes and slashes all of her back and the back of her legs, which is why nowaways she always wears pants. So you can't see the scars on the back of her legs. When she was attacked, she protected her face and curled into a ball. What makes it even worse is that Ali is anemic and she had lost alot of blood. If you look really closely, you can see that she's paler than I am, and she never admits that she's usually tired. It's probably surprising to hear that she's anemic. Anyways, she had to stay in bed for weeks. Just lying there helplessly. Our healing powers weren't developed. I would sit on her bed, with stuffed animals, trying to play with her and our mother would always come and say 'Alex, Alice needs to rest. She cannot play now' and pick me up and make me leave the room. I thought it wasn't fair that I could roam outside and play and she had to just lie in bed all day. Or that I had to blow out all of the candles our fifth birthday, because she was too sick. Or that our mother had to open her presents and she couldn't open them herself. So... I became angry. To hide my fear. And I have been, ever since,"
She sighed, taking a deep breath. "I don't know why... I guess somehow today just reminded me of that day. Of how I almost lost her,"

James looked over at Alexis slowly and gave a sad smile. He sat up slowly and looked up into the sky, saying nothing for a moment. "..I can understand what that is like.." he said, turning to look at her full on. "I..Don't remember if I told you, or perhaps I only told Ali, but I had a sister once..she died...To.." he started, then choked up suddenly but masked it by coughing loudly. "Hrm..Must have been a bug." he said slowly, turning to look back into the courtyard. He remained silent for a minute or two, then sighed.
"As a child, I was struck with every illness a person of that age could be hit with, and some that I shouldn't have. My doctors told my family it was like the gods themselves wanted me dead. Anyway, whenever I got sick my sister, Calily, would take it upon herself to devour every book, scroll and ancient scrawling to find a cure, or what to stop it..She was the only one of my family who really paid me much attention beyond sympathy. My brothers were both healthy and much more worthy of attention, why should a sickly little boy and his devoted sister be of much concern?" he said, a bitterness taking his tone suddenly. "My sister spent her life with me, and she was even studying to be a priestess to help me even more..Where I learned my own healing magic. She would force me to study and practice with her, to treat myself if something happend to her..." he added, then sighed.
"When I was about..Oh..fourteen? I was stricken with an illness called Bruciare Valnis, or simply known as 'Death's Messenger.'. It was fatal within weeks of being diagnosed, and no spell or potion could cure or halt it..It attacks by causing blood cells to stick to the walls of the veins, eventully ceasing all blood flow in the body...My sister was devastated. She sat by my side for days at a time, watching me die slowly. When she wasn't by my side, she was devouring our familes library of spells, potions and rituals..Anything she could get her hands on.." he said, then lifted his hand to his face, covering both his eyes. "One night..about two weeks after I was diagnosed.." he then said, pulling his hand from his face.
"She came into my room, carrying a book. Her eyes were..blank. She didn't give me her normal greeting or even a smile. She opened the book beside my bed and set it on the floor, then began to chant. To this day, I can't remember the rest..All I remember it waking up the next day and feeling..Cured. My doctors were shocked and amazed, I was cured! All my illnesses, infact, were gone. My sister would only give me a sad smile whenever I mentioned that night, and tell me to forget it....I never have..Suddenly, that very week, my sister became bedridden. The doctors called my family cursed, we must have been. Why? The chances for two children of the same family to be afflicted with Bruciare Valnis was beyond impossible." he said, lowering his head slowly.
He let it sink in for a minute or two, then lifted his head. "This time, it was I who attended to her and her who was slowly dying. It was..Both the saddest and happiest time of my life. I was happy because I could make her final days better, but sad because they were coming.." then lifted his hand once more, tears slowly falling from his face into the wind, only to be blown into the air by the harsh winds. "The night she died..She told me. She..In her desperation to save me, she found a complex spell..A potent, complex and old spell..It was known as Mirror Transfusion...It allowed her to purge my body of illness, even Bruciare..and force it into hers." he said, suddenly leaning over and sobbing, the wind seeing many tears now. "And then, as the last words left her lips...She gave me one last smile and passed away before my eyes."

Alexis sat there and actually listened to the whole thing. Even she had shed a tear by th end, but she quickly wiped it away, hoping he hadn't noticed. "That's horrible to hear James," she said softly. She watched him sob and put her arm around him, patting and rubbing his back gently for sympathy. "I'm so sorry,"

James continued to sob for a few minutes, letting Alexis comfort him. He finally stopped and sat up slowly, his eyes closed and drenched. "So now..You understand why I am..like I am." he said slowly, opening his eyes quickly. He took a moment or two, then shook his head and said "I must apologize..I didn't mean to..I never..I mean.." he started, then closed his eyes and said "I didn't mean to..Sadden you further..It just came out.." he said, then shook his head. He gently reached out and grabbed one of Alexis's hands. He opened his eyes and smirked, then said "Atleast now you know something Ali doesn't about me, hm?"
