Alrighty, I'm going to try to explain this for those of you who don't get it (which is prolly most of you sweatdrop ).
"I smoke in Church." - In Quebec, everybody smokes everywhere.
"I speak Quebecois and Jouale, not French or Hanglish." - Quebec French is so different from the French in France that many people think it's a different language and not even a dialect (when people from France watch Quebecois movies, they need subtitles to understand....). Jouale is a type of Quebec slang where words are shortened/slurred together.
"I prononced it terd, not third." - Many people in Quebec have trouble pronouncing the word "third" because it has the TH sound (which doesn't exist in French/Quebecois), and the English R sound, which is very different from the French/Quebecois R sound(s).
"Eating French fries with cheese makes sense en ostie." - A famous Quebecois dish, called Poutine, is basically French fries with cheese and gravy. xp (makes sense en ostie = makes goddamn sense rofl )
"In Quebec, the Stanley Cup actually comes around more often than Hailey's commet." - Hockey is a big event in Quebec, the best-known team being the Canadiens, from Montreal.
"... the legal drinking age is just a suggestion." - Like with smoking, drinking is more common in Quebec than in the rest of Canada and the legal ages for both aren't really enforced, so seeing a 15 year old smoking in public is not surprising.
"Je m'appelle Guy" - My name is Guy xp
"I am NOT Canadian." - Ever since the Quebecois came to Quebec from France, they have had a dream of having their own French-speaking nation. They joined confederation unwillingly in 1867 (the year that Canada became a country) and since then, there have been large movements to try to seperate themselves. A vote was last done in 1995 in Quebec, when 55.4% voted against seperation and 49.6% vote for it. The vast majority of them are actually for it though - the reason why so many voted against was because Quebec's economy is not particularly strong, and seperating from Canada would mean loosing Federal support. That said, many Quebecois do not consider themselves Canadian. When somebody from Quebec goes to Toronto, for example, his/her friends/parents/etc will say "Yeah, he/she went to Canada" (to make a statement that they don't consider themselves Canadian). Also, when asked, the vast majority of Quebecois will say that their country is Quebec.
