Aliya smiled at Ryu. "Bit of laundry, if the weather holds," she began, "housecleaning ... but first the children need their lessons, they're not allowed to help Adonai until they've finished their lessons for the day, so that will be first."

She bit her lip thoughtfully. "Someone's going to have to watch Adonijah," she murmured. "He doesn't like sticking around while the kids are doing their lessons, but he can't go to work with Amdir either ..."

She looked at Feng, hoping her friend would offer before she had to ask.

Amdir picked up Adonijah and put him up on his shoulders to take him back inside. As they headed towards the house, Adonijah waved over his shoulder at Tao and called in loud prees and clicking sounds, "Bye, bye, Tao! I'll see you later!"

Feng's eyes brighten under that prospect of being able to look after Adonijah, "Do you think Adonijah would mind too much if I watched him, Ryu can help and if all else fails we can take him outside to play with Tao."

Which seemed to be the few living beings he wasn't scared of to death, as far as she could tell.

Aliya's eyes positively glowed.

"If you would," she said gratefully, clapping her hands together. "I know he's still terrified of you, but yes if you had him play with Tao he would be so well behaved you wouldn't recognize him ... sometimes I wonder if he doesn't love her more than me and Amdir."

She laughed softly.

"But I do want him to get over his fear of you, too," she added quietly. "You're my best friends ... I don't want my children to be afraid of you."

Feng understood that, after all the little boy was so shy, "Don't worry, I'm sure everything will be okay. We'll be here a while, so he'll have plenty of time to get use to us."

She giggled and then added.

"Though I noticed about him and Tao, Ryu I think caught him under Tao's wing as we were coming in."

A strange expression crossed Aliya's face at Feng's words, halfway between amusement and annoyance.

"So that's where that cut went," she murmured, laughing softly as she sat at the table with the others. "Well, smaller lunch today, I suppose." She smiled at Feng and Ryu. "He has a habit of sneaking meat out of the cellar and feeding it to her ... she's a very good guardian, but Adonijah I think spoils her more than everyone else put together."

She sighed softly, her expression fading to a soft smile. "Well, he needs someone to adore."

"Tao must enjoy that," Feng giggled with a soft sigh, "Kind of reminds me when she first came here and Adonijah was only a baby. Does she still try to give him feathers?"

Since that was the earliest memory that Feng had of the two together, though Adonijah probably didn't remember.

Meanwhile back at the Ranch, Miyu was hopping down the stairs, her grandmother was already down helping breakfast. Her long wavy hair undone, since she hadn't braided it yet.

Lin was sneaking still upstairs sneaking a few more paragraphs from her book as she was trying to dress. Partly because the need to go see everyone was winning out over reading the book. Besides, she just had to go see Halmir and his family and with pocky since she missed their little boy's birthday yesterday, and she just had to go see Elros of course. Even if it wasn't for lessons, just to visit him.

Then there was the fact, she thought to herself as she tied the ribbon around her waist that there were many more people to meet and talk to again. She had to drop by the stables of course, and maybe stalk the smoke house a bit.

"Lin don't stay in there too long," her father spoke through the door of her room before making his way down to the dining area.

Aliya giggled. "It wouldn't surprise me, but if she does then I don't know about it. Still, Adonijah does have his hiding places, and as I said it wouldn't surprise me. He gives her gifts, and she loves to gift in return."

Amdir and Adonijah came into the dining room then, the boy still atop his father's shoulders. He had been smiling and giggling until they entered the room, but as soon as he spotted Feng and Ryu sitting at the table his eyes grew wide and his fists closed tightly around handfuls of his father's hair.

Amdir blinked. "Um ... ow?"

Lothiriel was also already in the kitchen, trying to help out Kara and Haradhel, but she was the first to admit that she was probably more of a hindrance than a help. She had never worked in a real kitchen before, having done all of her cooking over an open fire in the wilderness, and she wasn't used to the orderliness of it all.

In the end, Haradhel had politely asked her to leave, and so now she was wandering around the enormous dining room, looking around, her hands clasped neatly behind her back.

"Hi Adonijah!" Feng waved being her bubbly self.

As if Amdir wasn't at the moment having his hair pulled out by the roots. Which is what it looked like to Ryu.

"Do you need help Amdir?" Ryu asked.

"Lothiriel!" Miyu smiled brightly, rushing to the woman to give her a hug, her loose hair flowing behind her.

She had her hair tie tightly in one hand as she hugged Seeker.

"Where is your silly friend?"

Adonijah released Amdir's hair and leaned forward over his head instead, hiding his face and wrapping his arms around his father's chin.

Amdir sighed. "If you wouldn't mind, Ryu," he murmured, stopping in his tracks. "I can't see a thing now. Just ... mind the hair ..."

Lothiriel giggled and hugged Miyu back. "Good morning," she said brightly. "Pen's outside, I believe ... exercising. He does it every morning. Sometimes I encourage it, but sometimes I wish he would just wake up and travel."

She ran her fingers through the girl's hair. "I love your hair," she murmured warmly. "It's so soft ... would you like me to braid it for you? I've always wanted a sister whose hair I could braid."

She giggled. "Mine's too curly, I can't do a thing with it."

Ryu chuckled, poor Amdir, he hope this wouldn't last their whole trip otherwise mealtimes were going to be difficult. He got out of his seat and went over to Adonijah, carefully taking the boy by the waist to lift him up.

"How about I take you to your mother hmmm?"

Miyu nodded holding up the hair tie, "Mommy braids it most of the time, or Grandmommy braids it when I'm here."

The nice thing about her family was that there were a lot of people who could braid her hair.

Adonijah's grip only tightened around Amdir's chin, his legs also pressing tighter against his father's neck as he tried to stay where he was. He made no other indication that he had heard Ryu's words - not even the shake of his head or a cry or a whimper.

"Adonijah," Amdir murmured softly, "you're hurting Papa ..."

Lothiriel smiled and took the tie from Miyu. "It must be wonderful, having them braid it for you," she said warmly. "My mother used to try, but she gave up once I became a teenager, because my hair was wavy before but now ..."

She laughed and tugged at one of the ringlets. She released it, and it sprung back into place.

"Now, it would be impossible."

She smiled again. "Do you have a brush with you?" she asked softly, thinking that if she didn't then she could just use her fingers.

"I think Aliya-chan is going to have to get him," Feng murmured looking at Ryu and then at the frightened Adonijah.

At this rate, Amdir wasn't going to do very well being gripped like that.

"Come on little one, I'm not going to hurt you," Ryu murmured trying to pry the boy off of Amdir's head.

Miyu thought the ringlets looked very bouncy from here. She shook her head though at that question, "I forgot the brush upstairs," she told Lothiriel.

"That's all right," Lothiriel smiled warmly, putting her hands on Miyu's shoulders. She gently directed the girl to the nearest bench. "Go on and take a seat ... you really do have such lovely hair ... I'll use my fingers to brush it for you ..."

Adonijah's arms slipped from Amdir's chin, and through instinct more than anything he grabbed Ryu's arms instead and clung to them very very tightly. His head lifted from his father's, and, his eyes tightly shut, he pressed his face against Ryu's hand, hiding his eyes once more.

And now it was just his legs that were clamped around Amdir's neck ...

Aliya giggled softly. "I think I'm just going to watch," she told Feng mischievously.

She padded over the bench, climbing up onto the bench before sitting down. Her little feet dangling in the air as she swung them back and forth lightly.

"Thank you, I like your hair too, it looks like fun."

Feng tried not to giggle at her poor brother's predicament, here he was trying not to hurt Amdir, and Adonijah who was half clinging to Ryu and half still clinging to Amdir.

"You're lucky we're unusually tall for the family," Feng murmured with a soft giggle.

Meanwhile Ryu got closer so he could hold Adonijah properly though it was hard since half of the boy was still on his father.

"I don't suppose you can get his legs to let go?" he asked Amdir.
