Karite nodded to Yuki-sama as he tried his best to get up. Although he did no physical training it is as if his entire body had been in some sort of fight. Leaning heavily on his staff the boy limped his way back to the grounds just like an old man would have. He wondered what Kore was doing, it wasnt like him to stay gone for so long. Raising an eyebrow he quickly dropped it realizing those muscles were in pain as well. It was time he went home.

Akiko dragged her feet a little as she walked the starlit path that led to the estate. She stopped along the way, dangling her legs off of a low bridge that crossed a tranquil creek. She stared into the calm waters, watching the wavy reflection of the moon. She began to feel quite tired, the day's various exertions catching up to her almost instantly. It certainly didn't help that she got so little sleep the night before. She just wanted to stay there and drift off, but she knew that Aunt Yuki would be expecting her.

She clutched the railing as she brought herself back up. She noted, with due irony, that she felt like an old woman--after all, it wasn't even that late, but her weary body creaked and fought against her as she struggled back to her feet. As she gained some momentum by walking back, the dull ache began to fade a little, but it never truly went away. Finally passing into a common room of the household (her eyes were too bleary and her mind too tired to fully process the scene), she called out for her aunt. "Aunt Yuki, I'm home!"

"Akiko, darling! We've been waiting for you," Yuki said as she set down a warm cup of tea. The scent of chamomile hit the air from the tea, giving the room a calming aura. Not only was Yuki sitting on the couching waiting for the girl, but also her mother, Midori. "I have something very important to bring up with you, Akiko. Your mother and I have discussed it, but we do want you to make the decision," the woman said, hoping that Akiko would pick up on the serious tone in her voice. Yuki was still being gentle, like she always tried to be with her kin, but tonight's events had caused her some stress. Patting the cushion of the couch she sat on, Yuki paused for a moment to let Akiko sit. The girl did look very weary. "Akiko, Shimagakure has been a paradise for free living and open choice in this world of Emperors and warlords. I've encouraged many people to come to this island to live as they choose, but I'm afraid those days are coming to an end," the woman said, referring of course to the Meho war and now... Shinichi's instability.

"I don't feel its safe here for anyone that is not trained properly. Your mother, brother and my daughter Ayumi are going back to the mainland. Koro, my ex-husband, who is now the daiymo of the fire country will be putting them up in a safe house in Shiyue," Yuki explained as she put both hands her in lap as she prepared to ask Akiko the question. "Akiko, do you wish to return to the mainland with your family, continue studying here in Shimagakure or return with Aya to Mugendai? I feel you've come a long way since starting the Academy and I have faith that you'll aspire into a great kunoichi some day, but I know you also hold your mother and brother dear to you. The choice is yours, my darling," Yuki said, giving Akiko a moment to speak. "The boat for the mainland will depart tomorrow, Akiko. You'll have till then to think about it," Yuki said as she stood up from the couch. "I'll be heading to bed now," the woman said, leaving Akiko in the living room with her mother.

Akiko was stunned. She could hardly believe what her aunt was asking her. Leave Shimagakure? She can't even remember what the mainland was like--it was so long ago! This... for better or for worse... was her home. She knew nothing else, and now... now, she was being asked to leave all that behind. Akiko didn't understand. Why isn't it safe anymore? Why doesn't Yuki want her to stay? Did she want her to stay? There were just too many questions. She couldn't even begin to comprehend the complexity of it.

Aunt Yuki was hiding something, and Akiko knew it was futile to try to pry it out of her. Her aunt was wiser than that--she'd see right through any attempt to ask, and Akiko would still be left with no answers. She was sure her mother wouldn't say anything, either. As for her brother? He wouldn't know... but why would he leave? Akiko had thought that her brother would want to try to prove himself. Yet, she knew he didn't have much confidence... Akiko sighed. This was too much for her. She wanted to just go to bed and sleep on it, but she knew her restless mind too well.

She hadn't even approached the issue of what she would do. It seems that going across the sea would be the safest move, and she'd be able to stay with her family. But... would she be able to continue her training? She doubted it, but she wasn't certain. There was always the chance that, even if nothing awaited her on the mainland, she would be able to train herself or--better yet--find herself a mentor. Was there, though, something that she could only get in Shimagakure? Why would she want to stay?

The answer hit her. The man from her dreams--she still was looking for him. Some part of her heart still held hope that she might find him again. He disappeared here on this island without a trace... but surely, there must be something he left behind. Nobody simply disappears--it isn't ever that simple. In her heart, Akiko wanted to stay, if only to keep looking for him. She'd find him, no matter how long it took.

Then, the consequences of her choice flooded into her. She'd be leaving her family; she's never done that before. She'd be putting herself in the line of some unknown danger, and she might not come out of it alive. She might not even find what she was looking for. As she thought about this, her eyes began to water over. A current of tears flowed slowly down her cheeks as she ran to her mother. Midori lifted her up into her lap and held her against her shoulder. She didn't need to be told what Akiko had chosen--a mother always knew. It was painful for her, yes, but she knew it would hurt her daughter more. Yet, she couldn't be prouder of her daughter's decision. As Akiko let out her emotions, she succumbed to weariness. Without a word, Midori lifted up her daughter and carried her to her room. She tucked her daughter into bed and turned to the door... but, before she went, she removed a locket from around her neck and linked it around her daughter's. As she closed the door, a small crack of light briefly illuminated the open locket, showing a picture of their happy family--father and all.

-Twilight Time-

Aya had come home rather late and was exhausted. She hoped that her mother had gone to bed, but that wasn't the case. There was no avoiding a confrontation, a harsh scolding and a speech about how bad the Kun' Kumo clan was, which lead Yuki into disagreeing with Aya's choice to be with Kana. It seemed to go on for hours as Aya washed up, changed clothes and sat in the kitchen with some warm tea. She was exhausted from using so much chakra to put out the fire, that she was barely processing everything that her mother was going on about. It was amazing that Yuki kept her voice down, considering how heated the discussion was. Everyone in the house had gone to sleep, except for the two talking in the kitchen. As Yuki got all the words of anger out for Aya to hear, other news came; Yuki's dislike for Shinichi, Akiko's decision, Midori's leaving and the upcoming mission. Aya also shared with her mother her grudge towards Shinichi and what had happened at the chunin exams. Yuki then told Aya that she was not fit to be an instructor at this point and that Yuu should come to Shimagakure if he wishes to learn. Aya agreed before heading to bed for the night. Sleep was well deserved. Aya slept on the couch, since Akiko had taken over her room.

Aya woke up early that morning feeling full rested! It was odd that she felt so good since she had slept on the couch and had only gone to bed a few hours ago. She was happy that no one had come knocking on the door complaining about Kazuma. She laid on the couch for a few moments before sitting up. Her hair was a mess from falling asleep with it wet and her skin felt oily from sweating in her sleep. Eventhough she had taken a shower a few hours ago, there was no way that Aya was going to feel awake until she got in another one! Hopping off of the couch, Aya headed towards the downstairs bathroom to start the bath. She'd only take a quick dip before getting ready for the day. She was a little anxious to hear Akiko state her decision. Midori said she was sure that Akiko was going to stay in Shimagakure, but Aya really wanted to hear her younger cousin say it! Dipping into the tub, Aya leaned back in the warm water. Her mother had gotten a few more creams and hair treatment products since Aya last visited. Snickering to herself, Aya firgured that Kumiko's comments about being old were finally getting to Moma-Yuki. Aya decided to try out some of the cream for her hair. It had gotten rather tatter since she lived out at Mugendai with a bunch of boys!

Aya worked the mixture that smelt of jasmine into her hair. The smell made her feel awake and girly as she worked it into her scalp. Slowing dunking her head into the water, Aya continued to massage her scalp to work the mixture out of it now. She could feel her hair rejuvenate as it swayed in the mellow water. Coming up out of the bath, her hair still felt smooth with absolutely no tangles in it. "Wow," Aya said to herself as she smiled at how nice her hair felt. Pulling the drain for the tub, Aya stepped out and began to dry off. She carefully dried her hair, making sure not to get it tangled up after such nice treatment. Getting it so dry that is was merely damp to the touch, Aya smiled as she thought of something interesting to do with her hair today. Nothing really came to mind! Aya began pinning it up in the usual pony, making sure her bangs stayed out of her eyes today. Yesterday they had become quite a hassle. Checking to make sure her hair looked smooth and bump free, Aya thought of what today would hold. They'd be on the boat today heading to the mainland. Why not keep her hair down and let it sway in the wind? Pulling out the pins, Aya let her pale blue hair fall past her shoulders.

As Aya stood in front of the mirror, trying to get her hair to curl just a little bit at the ends, she noticed all the powders that her mother had lying about the vanity top. "Hm," Aya hummed to herself, picking up and examining the containers. Her mother's skin was very pale compared to hers. Aya had gotten her father's genes there along with the striking blue eyes, but the hair was another story... Aya decided to pass on the powder since nothing would really match her complexion. Instead, Aya examined the types of gloss for her lips and dark liner for her eyes. The girl decided to give it a try. With a steady hand, Aya lined her eyes with the black pencil and carefully put on the right amount of gloss on her lips. Dabbing her lips gently on a linen that looked like it was occasionally used for such a thing, Aya smiled at herself in the mirror. She did look rather stunning today! Putting on her change of clothes, Aya made sure everything was tied up tight and was comfortable. She looked down at her breasts and sighed. Kanami's flashed in her mind with a triumphant perk to them. Her family was cursed with small breasts, so Aya would have to make do with her smile.

"Aya-chan! Hurry up," an impatient Yuki called through the door to her daughter.

User Image

Aya didn't think that she was taking that long in the bathroom, but according to her arisen mother, she had been. "Hai! Hai!" Aya said cheerfully walking out of the bathroom.

User Image
Yuki immediately noticed the make up and fancy hair. "My, my! And who are we getting all dazzled up for?" the woman asked before passing by her daughter to go into the bathroom. "Don't head down to the shoreline yet, darling. I want you to take Midori, Ayumi, Koyuki and Akiko down with you," Yuki instructed her daughter as she closed the door to the bathroom.

"Hai, Moma-Yuki!" Aya chimed as she walked out into the living room. In the room, Aya had all her weapons and scrolls spread out. She'd give everything a good cleaning and maybe even sharpen some of her weapons before tucking them into their holsters. The first thing that Aya picked up was the tanto. She had been training with Kana to learn the way of a blade, but hadn't had that much instructing in it. Hearing the running water in the bath, Aya knew her mother wouldn't be out anytime some, so some training inside the house wouldn't hurt!

The blade that Aya had was the tanto. It was a very short bladed weapon and used for very close combat. Aya wasn't a close combat specialist, so having a weapon like this would serve quite handy. The Ninjutsu that Aya had been learning was perfect for distant attacks and her copeira was getting rather rusty now that she had learned that her mother had a technique that utilized the attacks of the hands. The acrobatic taijutsu that Ichi had taught her would not come in handy anymore. Taking a deep breath, Aya examined the tanto she had taken from a Rice soldier while retrieving Ichi's statue. It was rather plain and dull. She would have to ask Hamma some time to do some nice things to it. For now though, Aya would practice her strikes. Slash, stab and chop were the three basics ones she knew and could teach back to others. She did each one, starting with the slash and moving into a stab followed by a strong chop. There wouldn't be much need for chopping with a tanto, so Aya decided that her next try, she would take that swing out.

Aya was terribly sloppy with her attacks. It was hard training with a kendo sword and then transferring to a tanto. The weight was different, the length of the attack was shortened. However, Aya could make her slashes more precise. That's what she decided to focus on for this little indoor training. There were trinkets and walls keeping her confined and forcing her not to expand with full attacks. If Aya was ever sent out on an assassination mission, she would have to take her environment into consideration. Narrow corridors would be hard for a katana user to fight in, since the blade would be slowed down by cuffing the edge of the walls. Aya appreciated the size of the tanto now. With a straight stab, Aya took a large step forward. She would have to distribute her weight a little along with the distance she closed in between her and her imaginary partner.

Aya stopped for a moment, thinking she had heard her mother get out of the bath. Deciding to investigate, Aya stood outside the door to listen in. Inside, Yuki was well aware that Aya was seeing if she was still in the bath.

"What do you want?" the woman called out with a bit of aggrivation.

"N-Nothing!" Aya stammered with a bit of an uneasy laugh. "I thought I heard you slip is all!" the girl joked as she walked away from the door. The chunin could feel her mother glare at her through the door. Moving silently down the hallway back to the living room, Aya decide to practice some quick slashes. A combination of three in a row would be splendid! She had to keep her movements confined though. She thought of sticking to ducking, sidestepping and straight jumping for an overhead slash, especially since most of her opponents were taller than her.

As she finished her swings, she realized that there wasn't enough movement to avoid any oncoming attacks and absolutely no confusion as to where she was going to strike next at her opponent. She was sure that if she was training with Kana, he'd be able to predict each and every attack with the tanto. Frowning at herself, Aya tried to think of some other type of tactic to add. "Spinning!" Aya exclaimed to herself as a light bulb lit over her head! She would add in pivoting to her attacks. This would give her movement, but not cause her to take large movements. Choosing to plant one foot, Aya practiced her theory with the three slashes again. She could stay low and then stand tall and even push off her planted foot for a higher slash. Aya repeated it twice, before finding herself dizzy. She would have to practicing spotting and not getting dizzy if she was going to use this type of tactic with close attacks. Thinking she had pushed her time limit enough, Aya sheathed the tanto and the rest of her weapons just as her mother came out of the bathroom. Aya sat patiently on the couch waiting for everyone else to get up and come downstairs. She smiled at her mother she walked to the kitchen.

As Yuki prepared breakfast in the kitchen, she called to her daughter. "Have you been studying those scrolls I sent you?" the woman asked in a rather skeptical tone. Her daughter seemed to be acting weird, just sitting there on the couch quietly. Was she finally maturing? Yuki wouldn't suspect that so soon.

User Image

"Yus! I've been practicing my control, but my research has been primarily focused on Ichi right now," Aya admitted that she had been neglecting the scrolls a little bit. Getting up from the couch, she went into the kitchen to sit at the table while her mother prepared what smelt like eggs and spinach. "I had wanted to find Tomoko, since she has a water technique that would work pretty well with that chakra absorption technique you taught me. Since I don't have the earth element, I can't use vines or domes like you," Aya admitted, as she looked out window. It was still rather dark outside, but the glow of the sun was illuminating the garden outside.

There was no comments from her mother, so Aya decided to continue her thoughts on her own. "The technique I was thinking of was Suiton: Mizuame Nabara. I saw Tomoko use it once before to secure Dhan-" Aya stopped, not wanting to get her mother angry by continuing to mention names she disapproved of. "Uhm, the technique thickens water, since it carries mud from the earth with it. I'm guessing you need to use your chakra to thicken it and cause it to become sticky in order to trap your target," Aya explained as she tapped her fingers against the table top. The smell of the eggs and spinach was making her taste buds water. She had Udon the other day and now she was being treated to her mother's cooking. Aya supposed it was good to visit home every once in awhile!
