Maya stretched out on her back, laying on the ground and staring at the sky.
"Chuunin, huh?" she whispered to herself, a half grin on her face. For once, Shinichi hadn't been a bearer of bad news. But Maya had to train hard, and get her Goken back in top shape. She had to work on her capoeira as well, but she would have to see how that would go. Baki, beside her, growled his pleasure at the word and nuzzled Maya's side, almost squishing her as he rolled over slightly. Maya let out a soft 'oomph!' and shoved the lion, almost inaudible laughter bubbling from her throat. She sighed and tugged on his ears, scratching his mane. She knew she should be training...but she was still slightly tired, and Baki's body hadn't recovered completely - and neither had hers. Maya blinked, and wondered momentarily where Karite was hiding...and Orika. And, come to think of it, Hanabira too...and Kore, she hadn't seen him around, though Baki had made sure to find Ruha the moment they had set foot on the Grounds. Maya rolled her eyes, but smiled at the thought. More cubs would be a serious workload, but perhaps they would be able to instill discipline and responsibility in the entire squad....hmmm....

With a white lab coat billowing behind her, Yuki made her way towards the Tategami Grounds. She had missed Maya coming off the boat today, but she knew where the girl would go with her lion. Slowing down to a walk as she spotted the girl sprawled out with her head toward the sky. "Congratulations, Maya," Yuki spoke as she folded her arms under her chest as she smiled at the girl lying on the ground. "I'm happy to hear you made it to chunin, but unfortunately the students that were to make it underneath you, can not all be congratulated," the woman said as she took a few steps closer to Maya. Refusing to sit on the ground, Yuki remained standing, not even bending down so that her lab coat did not touch the ground. "Karite has passed and so has Hanabira. Hanabira took Shin's place in Kane's squad though. Orika did not even show up to the testing," Yuki explained to the girl. "Karite is training at my house right now and I spotted Orika sleeping in my clinic last night," the woman said with an irritated tone at the fact that Orika had used the clinic other for its meant purposes.
"Karite also tested alone," Yuki told Maya, knowing that the girl would be most interested in that handful of information. Maya and Baki had both tested together when they were to become genin, but Kore and Karite had not. "As much as I have differences from the Tategami lifestyle, I know that Tategami's train together in order to gain strength, not alone... I think Karite is in need of your guidance," Yuki said to Maya as she put her hands on her hips. "That's all I came to say for now," she said, turning away from the girl. Yuki had never had a good relationship with Maya, but that didn't mean that Yuki didn't care about the girl and her aspiring clan....

Maya had propped herself up to listen to Yuki, somewhat abashed at her state - dirty, of course, and the total opposite of Yuki's perfect cleanliness. She listened to what Yuki was telling her - apparently, she didn't have a squad anymore...
And what was this nonsense about testing alone? What the hell was Karite thinking? And Kore, to let him!? Maya bit back a nasty snarl and nodded curtly towards Yuki, accepting the news and feeling a little better about her state of dress - because there were much more important things in her mind right now. Like Karite's location, and how she was going to inflict heavy bodily pain upon him, then beat him as much as she could verbally. She rubbed her eyes and thought to herself about all the ways she was going to hurt him...and she knew Baki would handle Kore in his own way.

Kore walked onto the grounds bored and somewhat tired. He had exercised today, and failed to catch a very pesky deer. Wondering if Karite had managed to come back he looked around the grounds only to see Maya. Walking over the lion laid beside her. She was back and that was great, being in the presence of a human that didnt annoy him was nice.

Maya curled her lip and growled, but before she could do anything, Baki stood and swiped at Kore, his own irritation almost as great as Maya's.
Baki was confused as well as angry. Training alone, testing alone...what was this alone crap!? He growled and spoke to the cub in 'their' language, the inflections unnoticeable to Maya, for her human ears were almost deaf to the small differences in Baki's growls and snarls. ' Alone, cub? Why? What purpose was there in testing alone? The clan fights with its partners - otherwise there would be no point in having you here, would there? No point in training you to be strong to fight at his side with him. You might as well be out with Ruha in the fields, and Jhuga, hunting on your own and living on your own. I tolerate you in the pack because you are Tategami - you are family. But with your attitude, I doubt you'll be one much longer. My human is not yours to give attention or affection to - she is mine. Your own human should be the one you stay with. I can't tell you the times Maya has done something stupid, or tried something I knew she would fail. But I have never left her side without her being okay with it - and something tells me Karite is not happy with your leaving him. Whatever his problem may be, you are his partner before all else. Not his brother, not his friend - his partner. ' Baki swiped again at Kore, half impressed with the cub's size, but still annoyed like hell at this turn of events. Maya would never be able to leave the grounds again if this was going to keep happening. And how was he supposed to court Ruha if he had to continually deal with Kore?

Kore jumped up to his feet and sunk low to the ground. If he didnt know the strength of Baki he would have swiped back. Baki, could think what he wanted but Karite was not like Maya. Karite did things on his own. "Maya is your partner and while that bond is strong Karite is my brother for that is what he needed when he grew. I follow him when he lets me, otherwise I let him fall and rise on his own. He tested alone because he felt I was not ready for the exams. He is alone now for he asked to go alone. There are things Karite does because he has to. For himself and for Maya, I am always by that boys side when he needs it most. Now he is alone because he asked to be so. If you must know he is with the Tenmoki woman. Her scent is strong where he lies. Her home is not some place I tread easily. I came her to wait for his return where I may train under you to become stronger for him. To become stronger for my partner like you are for yours." Shifting his weight moving away from the second swipe he growled a little. Wondering if Baki would train him or simply send him off to see Karite.

Baki bellowed a roar that shook the ground and all the pebbles on it. ' If Karite felt you were not ready to take the exam, then it was he who failed you as both a partner and a brother. The woman who smells of medicine is strong, but she is not someone to fear if you have faith in your so-called brother. He shouldn't feel the need to 'let' you do anything - you should fight together! You should be together! ' Baki again snarled and whipped around towards Maya, his golden eyes ablaze as he stared at her hard, then stalked towards the opposite end of the grounds. Maya had not ordered him away, had not ordered him to keep still. Maya was both his master and not his master, all he had ever known after Resa had died on her mission with Shuga. His friend, his family, and his other half. Baki roared again and turned, picking up speed and racing towards Kore.
He would train this kitten until he knew what it meant to have a partner, and hopefully, Maya would do the same to Karite...

Maya almost stood and lunged between Baki and Kore - she knew the look in his eyes meant he was going to start easy, but go all out on the half-grown cub. Maya bit her lip, wary... however, she knew Baki knew what he was doing...hopefully. And Karite...Maya growled to herself slightly when she went over his actions in his head. Why on earth had he tested without his partner? Maya had refused to go up in rank without Baki at her side... Karite's ignorant move (in her opinion) made her doubt her decision to adopt him into the clan. Had she chosen properly in marking him and letting him stay? Had Orika turned his brain to rot, and now the idiot couldn't think straight? The hair on the back of Maya's neck stood and she exhaled harshly. Her anger and irritation only grew, and she decided that the minute Baki was done teaching Kore his lesson, she was going to find Karite and teach him his. Yuki said that Karite was at the Tenmoki household, and Orika, sleeping in the clinic...well, Orika was not part of her clan, and now, not part of her squad, so terrorizing Karite would have to do. Oh, and how she would do it....

(According to the game system, Grapples can be dodged if proceded with a running start in this case I believe it is. If not please correct me and I will edit the post accordingly)
Karite failed him? These words Kore's mind did not want to accept and he would rather not try to comprehend. While it had been true that Karite and Kore were not as tightly woven together as Maya and Baki it was for obvious reasons. The boy was the loner type. He lived alone his whole life while from Maya and Baki's points they had been together forever all each other had. Karite learned to fend for himself by himself and some habits died hard. Baki's words rained true in Kore's mind no matter how hard the cub wanted them to be false. They were a team and it seemed Karite had other things in mind then being together. looking up Kore managed to let out a whimper of a roar as he was flipped from his position by the full weight of his superior. "Teach me then! It seems my 'partner' has failed to" His eyes tried their hardest to appease Baki, but they still held that glimmer and flare that Karite's often did. He still believed in his partner and he still held his brother close to his heart.

[ I think yeah, I would have had to roll a sprint. My bad! But your Dodge fails, so... ignore 2nd roll haha... ]
Baki barreled into Kore and wrapped his forelegs around the younger cub's body, holding him tightly and snarling savagely. ' What you must learn, you cannot be taught by me. Your idiot partner should know better than to leave half of himself behind! ' Baki refused to say anymore on the subject, instead pressing down on Kore and letting the deep rumbles echo over the grounds. Baki was not going to let the cub off easily, and if he hurt Kore, all the better. Karite should have been here to help protect him. Maya would never let him initiate a fight alone if she was available to help, and even then, Baki would never dream of going by himself, knowing how much better they worked as a team. Truth be told, Baki wasn't really mad about Karite ditching Kore - he was annoyed that Kore had the gall to approach Maya so easily. Baki still nursed mental wounds from their mission in Tonato a few years ago, and the white-haired bone grower that had nearly killed them both. Had it not been for the thinking of the medical ninja's male, Baki wouldn't have made it back to Shimagakure. He knew he was connected to that man, and knew that he had a gift in being with Maya. Baki vaguely wondered if they would ever return to the fire country and give thanks to that man again... Baki's growls almost lowered in volume, though the heat in his eyes said he was not any less irritated with the younger lion.

((I regret not putting more points in my escape skill now))
Roaring out in pain as the elder lion squeezed on the cubs body. Kore had forgotten how much stronger Baki was than himself. "My partner may be many things, but an idiot he is not. He just wants to be like Maya, he wants to take care of his family...us. He does what he does to make Maya proud and to keep her from being hurt. He cares for Maya almost as much as you do. He cares for this clan as much as I do, the little time he has been apart of it. If fighting to protect something with all the strength you can muster makes you an idiot than I am an idiot as well. He messes up, but we all do. My partner needs me, I don't need him. Like I am sure you don't need Maya, you choose to be with her. Kings of the jungle we were born. We are Tategami though, we are destined for better and greater things." The cub was right in a sense. Lions were strong and fierce creatures but lucky these few lions were to be titled with such praise as Tategami. There was no higher calling in all the world than to partner yourself with a Tategami warrior. Karite would become a great Tategami clan member, he just had a lot of rough edges that needed to be smoothed out. One thing that never failed as that he always came when he was needed. Hopefully Kore's calls would reach him in time. The cub wasn't sure how much more of this death grip he could take before passing out. Kore thought to himself as he tried to escape the grip threatening his life. "Hurry Karite, show them what I see, show them that you are my partner."

Kore's response almost made Baki let him go and stare in disgust. ' It's not a matter of who needs who, kitten - it's a matter of being together. Maya is physically stronger than I am, but I am smarter than she is. We are one entity together. If you don't need Karite, then don't bother going back to him, because he'll know you think so little of him that you don't even need him. Without Maya, I am a beast, another animal on this island. I would survive. But with Maya I live, I am, and I will be - I am a warrior at her side, equal to her and greater than I could be alone. ' Baki lessened the grip he had on Kore ever so slightly, only enough to hear Baki's last comment. ' For the record, we are not kings of jungles. I have never in my life seen a lion living in a jungle. ' Baki let go of Kore, pacing for a moment and then returning to Maya's side. He was slightly abashed because of the look on her face, but he pricked his ears forward and licked her jaw. The young woman scratched his head, and stood, wondering if she should go find Karite or sit and wait. Baki figured it might be more of an impact if Karite saw Kore without any of the cub's usual energy, but he snorted. He would have to let Maya handle Karite alone, but he didn't particularly want to...

Maya stood and stretched, clicking her tongue against her teeth and crossing her arms. "Time to find the other runt and kick his a**, I guess. I'm not happy about going to Yuki-sama's house, but I guess it'll have to be done." Maya sighed and motioned for Baki to leave Kore, more because she didn't want to go by herself than because she wanted him to be there when she lectured Karite on partnership. Lectured translating very loosely to beat-the-crap-out-of-him-while-lecturing-him. She smirked.
That was fine with her.

Karite returned to the grounds a lot slower than he normally did, still feeling the effects of draining his chakra far past its normal limits he was in no mood to be rushing things. As he got back he looked around the grounds to see Kore lying down off near the tents. "Hey, Kore. I am home, lets go to sleep buddy." Karite walked closer to the lump waiting for it to move, but when it didn't he stopped for a second. "Kore? You ok buddy?" Karite still received no reaction. Dropping his boy and moving as fast as his body would let him over to his brother he looked at him. Touching his rib cage they were still rising and falling like normal, but they were small breaths. 'Did Baki and Maya do this? Is this what she was talking about.' Maya had done some pretty strange things to Karite in his time with her, but she never hurt him without good reason. This however was one straw he would not tolerate being broken. Sitting next to his friend the boy cried the biggest tears he had ever let fall from his eyes. Finding it hard to breath he had done the one thing he worked so hard to fight against. He let someone he cared about get hurt again. Karite would make Maya explain herself and she would apologize leader or not. If she didn't he would take Kore and he would live in the lagoon for awhile. Maybe being alone is all she ever really wanted. fiddling with his hands, the boy had never been so scared or confused. His childhood friend was laying next to him half to death. Maya spoke of how she lost Baki, was she trying to do the same to him? Was she trying to take away his friend. Screaming out to the emptiness around him he yelled into the Shimagkure sky, the invincible boy had been cut deeper than he ever thought he could. Kore was still alive, but this all could have been avoided if he had worked just as hard on making Kore stronger as himself.

Baki snarled harshly as he trotted into the grounds, shoving Karite to the ground and standing between him and the half grown lion. He knew that Karite would blame both he and Maya, but Baki bared his fangs and made it clear this was his work alone. He snapped his jaws and shoved Karite again, towering over the boy and letting his hot breath curl in palpable thickness in the boy's face. He growled as Maya shoved him off, her own words sounding a little harsher than his own growling, but Maya wanted Karite to learn better. Baki just wanted him to be dinner. He hesitated - where had that thought come from? He shook his head, a rumble still in his throat, and lay in front of Kore's fuzzy lump of a body. He'd be fine. He was a lion, after all, and not a house cat.
Shoving Karite Away 3 + Fight[33] -> 36
Maya let a cruel smile drape across her face. "Poor kitten, are you upset someone's hurt your pet?" Maya knew that when Sukotto had once said those words to her, called Baki a mere beast, and a pet, she'd gone into a wild rage and had wanted to kill him. Well, she still wanted to kill him, but that was beyond the point... Maya's eyes softened slightly, though her tone did not let up and the creepy smile on her face just made her look like a psycho. "Karite, Kore's just been disciplined by Baki the lion way...you can accept that or you can fight me on it. The Tategami are not about individual strength, and I don't know if you understand that. You've shown that you don't, and for that, you have to be punished too. Do you understand?" Maya was sitting on her heels, wondering what the boy would do. He was crying, which Maya understood. She'd have felt the same, if she would have had to come home to Baki and found him this way. But then...she'd never been without the lion. He'd even snuck out while she was in classes, back when partners weren't allowed to go into the academy, and she'd been with him throughout the day.

Karite's Decision Kore has been hurt as part of Karite's punishment. He can either own up to his own error or demand an apology from Maya. Either decision will bring upon a different punishment on his own being, either physical or mental. It will also affect Kore's condition, though slightly. Both decisions have their pros and cons - choose wisely.
