Zia and Maida looked confused. Maida reached out and took Zia's hand, taking comfort in her friend's warmth.

Maida shrugged and ran after Daniel, her friend following. THey each grasped one of his hands.

He had reached his room. He walks in the door, slamming it behind him before Zia or Maida could get in.
