I have a character who's addicted to heroin and does magic by playing guitar.

So he's basically a heavy metal bard.

Except cooler, because he just shreds and it casts spells.

Then he'd go do some coke and get drunk.

Will your addict want friends, Fiend?

Any event can work, as long as it 1) follows schedule and 2) isn't so long lasting that it loses steam and interest.

I could do that. Problem is...I want to be a player this time around. I need a break from GMing. But maybe I could do what opaj did ,and GM AND play.

The Fiend of the West
Flayer: Exactly what I intended to do.

He is addicted to Combat Stims and other Warhammer style drugs. Makes for an interesting character who is bat s**t insane because of the drugs and loves fire.

Already did that.

Artistic: My character is a Underhive bad a**, and isn't very smart. More a rageoholic, yeah.

Flayer: He does need friends! He just arrived on Gaia! You need contacts to be anything in the criminal underworld.

Edit:

Kenji: So has the Simpsons.

Oh wait.

Well, affiliated threads really never MEANT anything other than "hey, look! Another thread!"

There was never an implication (or explicit statement) that the threads were linked beyond simple advertisement purposes.

The idea is to just add more cohesiveness to it, along with providing a means (via bulletin board/event board) to promote story events, thread happenings, and one-shot events similar to Triad, or the GTB, or HoH, or so forth.

Oh. XD I always affiliated my stuff with other mainstream threads. Then again I guess we'd always had the assumption that they were all involved in the same story, etc. etc. because our characters were running around between them all the time.

Oh events~ How they've made my character what she is today.

Several times no? With Dzan and Ebris about, finding the drugs you want is easy and expensive.

Obviously I am not the first drug addicted Warhammer character.

Drug addicted Warhammer characters are a dime a dozen in Warhammer, so I'm pretty sure I'd see a few around here.

Just trying to do something fun.

Till I get bored of it.

Which will be tomorrow.

Oh gods, I never should have run into you people!

XD

I'm gonna have so many characters in my head and on file/paper, before this is all over with.

Well, in Commerce it seems like affiliation is just.. mutual advertisement.

The idea is to sort of strike between the "affiliation for advertisement" and "using a guild for world building."

The former serves very little purpose in furthering roleplay, and the latter is just too constrictive. So, hitting somewhere in the middle with a sort of organized "umbrella" (or even federation, I guess? I dunno) that threads can fall into to share the same world allows you to caste the net wider, so to speak, and grab more players and more locations.

Which is the big idea. A world three threads do not make. The more threads, the more the lines on the metaphorical map are filled in, but unlike a guild you won't have any real boundaries.

Mino: Aren't you a raptor with dragon wings?

Or was it Baby Godzilla?

I would totally roleplay a raptor.

Maybe, even, a humanized one.

But not with dragon wings. That's just, OP.

So he's what, Dzan? Geeze, how many people have played that archetype ******** that s**t, Pathfinder (D&D 3.5 advanced basically) is actually making a ******** character class that looks like MY character. They have a bomb ability which is pretty much Rikei's ability to a T. So, in otherwords, I don't make characters that are similar to classes like bards in roleplay games, ******** roleplay games make classes based off me!

This is all a giant falacy. Though the similarities to Rikei's powers and the new Alchemist Pathfinder class are eerily similar (******** thieves I say!) the "chemist" archetype has been around since at least Ragnarok, where part of the character concept came from, and before. So while the character's author did not actually invent anything, ******** you, he still rocks, and you can suck it. /fineprint

Actually, you're only half right. Roleplaying combat is a little different. Yes, Being an entertaining writer and being honorable to the story is one aspect of it, but the other half is knowing what you're doing. People engage in the "game" of roleplaying to compete against one another in interaction. Whether it's just a social "Hello" or beating the heck of them, the reason people play it is to tell a story while going into something they don't know the outcome of. That's why I dislike when you always say "roleplay should be able creativity and people getting alone" because that invokes an image that everyone has to be all lovey dovey and not be able to do what their characters want to do. Double KOs at the previous HoHs is a great example of this. It's not fun when everyone is trying to keep a smiling face and humble atmosphere. To me, when it comes to combat in roleplay, just like social drama, physical drama should be allowed to play out naturally rather than planned. It's like in wrestling: even if the end is predetermined, the road there is all improvised by the wrestlers themselves. They don't rehearse what moves to do in an order toward the end of the fight. They know that Fighter B is going to lose, so they should give a realistic but entertaining fight that will keep the audience engaged.

But when it comes roleplay combat such as GTB or HoH, you don't have an established end. Each side is trying to win, no matter how much you sugar coat it. Your philosophy comes in to make sure people don't do stupid stuff, but after that, the only thing each person is responsible for is keeping to their character and etiquette. Because when we come down to it, the winner is the one who was the better roleplayer AND the better fighter. Roleplay fights is about using your character to try to win a fight. And if you're doing it as if you're roleplaying socially with another character, then you're doing it wrong. I don't like looking at fights that are just circus acts.

Don't misread me on this, Vin. I never said that I want a tournament full of double KOs and people being nice-nice. Of the times I've had Tenkai do the honorable thing in fights and settle for double knockouts and all of that jazz, I did it because in that particular case that would be what Tenkai WOULD do. Just as you said, you do what your character does, and that's exactly what being an entertaining roleplay is about.

"Lovey dovey" is kindof a stupid way of putting it :/. And "people getting along" is supposed to refer to people getting along in OOC. I don't give a rat's a** if one character hates another character. Hell, it isn't even my business if the author hates the other author. But oftentimes people let that affect their roleplay and their characters choices regardless of what the character would do, and that's wrong. Otherwise you're just using the whole "It's my character, I'll decide what he does" argument as a crutch to hide behind so that you basically do whatever you feel like at a given moment regardless of how people feel.

And even when there's things a character would do in a certain case, there's always such thing as a d**k move. Making an entertaining fight doesn't mean it has to be a double KO though, not at all. It is still a game, but that's exactly my point. It's a writing game, and one that we often take far too seriously than we should be.

You're absolutely right in what you said, but a little off on your interpretation of what I said.
