So how well do you think you did in your match, Ky?

I think I did ok, honestly. Could have gone a lot better though, and it made me realize I need to up Robyn's game a little. I thought I could get away with "she doesn't do a lot of damage, but she's fast". Not so. I've already got one new ability for her, now I just need to come up with one or two others...

edit: top-paged twice in a row, how lucky can i get? XD

Tenkai Matsumoto
That's pretty much the skinny of it.

In a UFC styled combat arena, special powers, advanced weaponry, and other things that take away from the aspect of being human would give people too much of an edge. Even something as small as having clawed hands can tilt the scales a bit too far. If wrestling a tiger is a bad idea, wrestling a tiger with opposable thumbs and long fingers is insanity.

But in a combat arena where most if not all characters participating use special abilities, special weapons, and are above the average human in terms of strength, speed, resilience and perception, a lot of that stuff becomes relative. And instead of simply being a fight to see who has the most technical martial arts knowledge and the largest collection of supplementary photos, it becomes more about being a creative and entertaining writer.

Or at least that's what I hope people realize by now. >> In tournaments like these, having good knowledge of martial arts is a definite plus, but having that plus the ability to use it creatively and with entertaining posts is pretty much the key to scoring high and making it past the rounds.

Edit: And with that, I go back to Burn Notice.

Actually, you're only half right. Roleplaying combat is a little different. Yes, Being an entertaining writer and being honorable to the story is one aspect of it, but the other half is knowing what you're doing. People engage in the "game" of roleplaying to compete against one another in interaction. Whether it's just a social "Hello" or beating the heck of them, the reason people play it is to tell a story while going into something they don't know the outcome of. That's why I dislike when you always say "roleplay should be able creativity and people getting alone" because that invokes an image that everyone has to be all lovey dovey and not be able to do what their characters want to do. Double KOs at the previous HoHs is a great example of this. It's not fun when everyone is trying to keep a smiling face and humble atmosphere. To me, when it comes to combat in roleplay, just like social drama, physical drama should be allowed to play out naturally rather than planned. It's like in wrestling: even if the end is predetermined, the road there is all improvised by the wrestlers themselves. They don't rehearse what moves to do in an order toward the end of the fight. They know that Fighter B is going to lose, so they should give a realistic but entertaining fight that will keep the audience engaged.

But when it comes roleplay combat such as GTB or HoH, you don't have an established end. Each side is trying to win, no matter how much you sugar coat it. Your philosophy comes in to make sure people don't do stupid stuff, but after that, the only thing each person is responsible for is keeping to their character and etiquette. Because when we come down to it, the winner is the one who was the better roleplayer AND the better fighter. Roleplay fights is about using your character to try to win a fight. And if you're doing it as if you're roleplaying socially with another character, then you're doing it wrong. I don't like looking at fights that are just circus acts.

Lol. I was being honest actually.

If anyone wanted to have a big air battle I'd most likely take that back out.

So Vin, when do you think that confessional thread will be up?

Ross said he's doing it.

lol. I need to make a character that I can actually have a serious RP fight with. I'm practically guaranteed to loose with Sey in a one on one match, unless it's something that burns if she hugs it. User Image

Team events are where it's at. Gooooooo support~!

All righty, Vin.

Ky, I'm curious because if I get passed the first AND second rounds Kenji's either going to fight Robyn or Omi. Should be interesting to see what happens.

No guilds were made or concocted.

No guilds.

Strictly more of a charter/agreement that's as loose as possible on IC restrictions and just maintains a shared canon/continuity/creative space/world between threads that fall under the umbrella of "Gaia Mainstream."

So it's not even really a strict organization.. more like an agreed-upon contract between threads to play in the same world really.

Well, in that case, my money would be on Omi, but, like people keep telling me, you never know.

Unless you're Vince XD

... XD So pretty much what's been in existence already, except that people are making an effort to say that it means something outside of the affiliate links in their threads?

I wanna be a part of this dream world. I've got several characters to permeate its expanses with, too.

Honestly, I never use affiliate links. It just takes a reference to the thread through it becoming more known through mouth and then me going there to check it out before I subscribe it to my list.

I'm all for helping increase traffic in other threads. Then again, the only affiliate threads I have in the ToF since I updated the description are Sins Before the Dawn tavern and Arc's Magi Conclave thing.
