A quick lesson on how to hurt your foot: (1) Sit in wooden chair. (2) Lean back. (3) Lean forward, but only a bit. (4) Sorta put one foot (toe part) under the chair leg. (5) Accidentally fall forward. (6) Congratulations.. INSTAPAIN!
In other words, OWWWW. gonk

WhiteJoker Zelyhon While that may be true, you've got to consider most of them are probably typing like that out of laziness. I think that, while it might be interesting to observe it and its effects on English from a Linguistics point of view, from an English/literature/whatever perspective, it's a different matter. It may be true that no one speaks true proper English (if such a thing exists), but I think that most people will agree that "coz" is not proper English, let alone something that should be accepted as a replacement for "because". Save that quite a bit of your developed vocabulary is there because somebody in history got lazy and decided they didn't want to pronounce something the way it was pronounced by their father. The "evolution" of language is based almost entirely upon two things, slang and theft. Slang in that an existing word, phrase, or whatever is shortened to make it easier to say and spell, and theft because quite a bit of modern English words are adapted from others, like French and Spanish. Hmmm...Interesting point. However, even given that, I don't believe that Chatspeak is necessarily a good thing, as the article seems to indicate. While some may find it interesting to watch how the language changes and view chatspeak as another phase in this, I personally dislike chatspeak, not so much for its effect on English, whatever it may end up being, but mostly for the laziness in grammar and such that seems to accompany it in many cases. I guess I'm just one of those who prefers to speak the same way my father did. WhiteJoker Quote: Furthermore, the article doesn't even focus in on chatspeak, instead turning to talk about blogging or IMing, which are separate issues from chatspeak. Not really, the entire concept of the Internet is convenience. Chatspeak is different from forum/blogging, yes, in that it has a more "legitimate" reason for shorten forms due to speed, however, convenience is almost always the reasoning for the changes in a language. The internet is a development of convenience, and convenience means speed. While true for IMing, in blogging, does that really matter? IMs take place in real time, and I can understand some need to shorten words to speed things up. Hell, is not that what contractions are for in the vocabularies of most people? But for blogging, when you post at your leisure, one would assume a bit of time could be used to spellcheck and/or grammar check, since it's not as if you need to get it up before the conversation moves on. Chatspeak may be convenient in IMing, but I really don't see the need for it in blogging (or most other types of non-real time connunication.)

Well, since this Guild is pretty dead it's not much use posting this I guess ^_^;; But I'll do it anyway.
Last time I stopped coming to this Guild I didn't really care enough to tell anyone that I was leaving, but this time I'll be gone longer, if not permanently, from the AG and the Anime/Manga/Comics forum. I actually planned on not coming back then, but Kin got me to come back for a short time. The only place you might see me as far as non-art forums go is in the Manga forum once in a blue moon to visit my Furuba friends.
It's not that I don't like this place, it's just that I feel I like to focus my time on what I joined Gaia to: draw for nice people.
It's not that the people here aren't nice, they just aren't the kind of people who will spend megabucks on art as opposed to items or whatever. Plus nobody here is like... on the same brainwaves as me as far as the Gaian artist community goes. I don't really care much about the happenings on Gaia as far as NPCs and whatever either. This, as a chat guild, is lowest on my priority list of the dozen or so Guilds I belong to and thus I'm probably going to cut down my time posting here from slim to none.
I'll still have free time on AIM and MSNM though, so anyone who has that is totally welcome to holla anytime heart Plus LJ, my website, PMing, or just seeing me other places on Gaia like R&C or Art Contests.
I also won't be making any replies to this post, so don't bother quoting it and save page space :]
Baibai.

The guild's alive. Plus, there's always backlog. Holy, holy backlog.
Anyways, sad to see you go, Takako. I'll be sure to chat with you elsewhere. Try to stop by every once in a while, since we'll all miss you.
