Luca looked from the ring to Lori. He stared. Was this...? No, too soon. But a promise ring, maybe? He admired it for a moment before taking it out of the box. "It's lovely," he said. And it meant more to him than sharing closet space.

Finally Lori smiled. He leaned over the distance between them to kiss Luca. Good. That had gone over well. He took the ring and Luca's right hand and put it on the proper finger facing the proper way, then continued in English.
"My promise to you."

Luca had never been so happy. Not in one hundred years; this wonderful feeling was unique and Lori's words dispelled any fear that had been there. He scooted closer to Lori, and laid back. "I'm sorry I was so weird earlier," he said. "You're much better at all of this."

Pleased that it had gone so well, Lori crawled over to lay beside Luca, his head propped up on a hand.
"Are you kidding? I've never done this before. I'm awful at it." Maybe a little less awkward, sure, but just as nervous. They just showed it in different ways. "It's okay. After everything that happened I wanted to make doubly sure you knew how I felt, and tonight just seem like the right time."

Luca smiled slightly. "Alright we're both awful," he said. "Want to wait for midnight with me?"

Lori nodded. "Sure."
He'd stayed up until midnight on New Years but never on Christmas. There really wasn't any point to it when you were alone. Now he and Luca could be the first to wish each other a Merry Christmas. It was terribly corny, but he found he kind of liked it.
He took Luca's hand and admired it with the ring on, then smiled up at Luca.
"How did I ever get so lucky as to find you?"

"We're lucky I found those books," Luca smiled, snuggling close to Lori. Magical books had brought them together; it was the kind of thing you'd expect from a child's cartoon. "I'm glad whoever sent them, sent them to me."

"Me too," Lori agreed, and then rolled over to loom over Luca and kiss him earnestly. This was love. He was sure of it. It had happened unusually fast and had come to him for the first time, but he knew for sure that this was love. He tangled his fingers in Luca's and broke the kiss with a smile.
"What do you want to do until midnight?"

Luca paused at the question, and after a moment, smiled. "What we're doing now," he said, and kissed Lori. Kissing and snuggling sounded like the perfect way to spend Christmas Eve.

Lori grinned and leaned down, kissing Luca slowly and once again pulling his lip out gently with the release. He was happy. Just... happy. Happy and in love. He'd be glad to live like this forever.

Luca returned the kiss happily, and when it ended, smiled up at Lori. "I love you," he said. He kissed him again, nibbling at his lips.

Lori was still grinning. He wrapped his arms around Luca and rolled onto his side, hoping to incite a make-out session. This might just be his best Christmas yet. He was lucky that Seamus understood the need for private time, plus Dari seemed to be his favorite bed.

The next morning, Luca and Lori came down a decent amount of time after breakfast had begun cooking and both were newly showered. Toby just smiled as they entered and waved.
"Good morning!" he chimed.
Rosie and Muffin were eating scrambled eggs out of their bowls, and Seamus was doing the same on a small plate.
"Merry Christmas!" Toby repeated as he turned back to breakfast.
"Merry Christmas," Dari said much less excitedly and smiled to the couple.

Maia looked up as Lori and Luca came in. "Merry Christmas!" she smiled at both of them. She went over to give each of the elves a Christmas hug. "Look, Toby and I made eggs for everyone," she gestured to Seamus, Muffin and Rosie.
"Merry Christmas!" Luca returned the hug, and looked around. He'd never spent Christmas morning with people he cared so much about. He took Lori's hand. "What's for breakfast?"

"No eggs for the people?" Lori asked with a laugh after Maia hugged him. Seamus meowed in response. Lori was pretty sure that was either "no" or "get bent, fairy boy."
"No, people get waffles."
Seamus turned to Toby and meowed again.
"Pets get pieces of waffles."
Seamus rumbled and growled as he turned back to his eggs.
Lori swung Luca's hand happily.

Maia bent down to pet Seamus. "You can have one of my waffles," she told him. He wasn't a pet, after all. He had far more intelligence than Rosie or Muffin did.
Luca beamed at Lori. "Want to help with breakfast?" he asked.
