Ah well... see, when you put it that way I have renewed faith in you and a desire to see this project made successful. I've always enjoyed playing a bad good guy, so, it makes dealing with the law fun.

Old Man KB My only experience with the GPD is through Chen. Yeah, the same. During and shortly after Unity (and also some stuff from HoH). ...can't say that I'm particularly pleased with how this hard cop that doesn't play by the rules expects to get anything done or actually manage to stick an arrest on someone without evidence and with several dozen witnesses to police brutality on a regular basis. I really don't know why he hasn't been fired yet, except that the GPD probably has like 4-5 people actually working for it so they need every man they can get to fulfill their campaign of temporarily inconveniencing people.

Another goal is establishing an actual government in place. Even though Gaia is largely unruly, there is still a government, at least for the Aeka Durem, and Barton areas, which is pretty big due to how flexible the boundaries of the country or whatever is. So I want to make that believable so people actually feel like there's a law in place that is there to keep order, and also gives criminals justifications. By philosophy, "the bad guys" aren't going to be declared bad unless an established order is in place. That is when gangs and the like are created, to go against such order. That is why I never like when people say "There is no government or order." There is some form of order in place.

1st edition paladin update.
so I figured out how to edit the prices of stuff in the Shops on the fly, which means I can probably set up the Charisma code soon.
also figured out the best way to do it is to compare the Affinities of the Character directly to their respective qualities of the enemy, rather than account for them all. So if you only have two affinities, you only compare two affinities, and assume the rest doesn't matter. This matches the -2,-1,0,1,2,3 multiplication we discussed the other night, since 0 is neutral, there's no point in calculating it in.
Also figured out how to swap out the icons on the bottom of the screen for chibis to the right, so it looks more like final fantasy. Got the prayer icons working in four directions, and made a philosopher class to test out alternative skill structures, using two new skills, Apothecary and Polymath.
I'm still not sure how to construct a second status window though.

Yeah. When I think of the overreaching Gaia government I either think of the force that's trying to unify them all, or issues or organizations of such importance that they are universally supported.
Like the old Gaian Special Forces. Since they're there to work against terrorist threats against Gaia as a whole, it makes sense that the lawful elements would be supporting them regardless of jurisdiction. The criminal elements and terrorist elements would be against them.

Vintrict Cause Chen has exceptions with his ranking. Not meaning to sound combative or anything but... isn't this just an excuse? I mean like, literally. An excuse to not have to follow police codes or have actual evidence of a crime before acting. All he needs to do is say "I'm arresting you" and if they resist then he hits them and calls it resisting arrest. Does he need to get a warrant to search a building or a person's possessions? No, because he is exempt from reasonable cause. Everyone is carrying a weapon, so he can't use the excuse of "this guy looks dangerous" in order to investigate either... and he uses 'gut feelings' to justify acting on OOC knowledge in order to forcibly dig up evidence that he would have no reason to look for. I'm playing a Paladin right now and, though the idea of being able to just dispense justice here and there where it's deserved is tempting in a setting so morally bankrupt as Gaia, if you're actually following LAW and CODE it doesn't really work. Chen is so much more of a Black Mask/Batman type character who should be following the rules when necessary and dispensing vigilante justice when he can. Just that he never wears a disguise, and always flashes his badge, which leads to complaints filed against him and lawsuits against the department. That leads to severance pay.
