Yeah, besides the whole realization of my issue, I am pretty happy with the day...

My husband surprised me with my phone... I have a calendar app on it that allows me to set alarms, notices, and reminders on it, but I haven't used it in like a month... but today, I was getting me and my daughter ready to head to the gym when I heard this little dinging sound (kinda like a door ajar alarm in a car)... I was really confused, and about the time I realized it was my phone, and was checking out WTF was wrong with it, I see a reminder message that says "all the time" which just puzzled me... so I opened the reminder to see the whole day plan, and my husband left me a an "I LOVE YOU" on it...

Then I went to the gym all happy and got a super hormone buzz that about beat a great orgasm. LOL I LOVE working out!

Great day! cool

Got back from the city last night. Was visiting friends and some other stuff.

Had the stupidest time getting back, though. I took the bus to the ferry, after missed one by about 5 minutes and having to wait for 45. I got to the ferry at 1:30 and found out that the next one left at 3:15, putting me on the island well after 5. So I started hitching (it's a 2+ hour drive) and there was baaarely any traffic. Didn't get a ride until 6, which kinda sketched me out because it's no good to hitch at night.
I ended up meeting meeting some cool people though, and it was all good.

I got home around 8:30. It was quite a day.

A flemy is a flemish giant rabbit smile
Apparently hubby doesn't think we should adopt this one, because it's an entire buck, and our girl is too old to be having her first litter of kits sad

I used to breed rabbits, but I got out of it when I hit 20. I have a had a couple pets here and there, but I always pass them on to a niece or friend when I have had to move and what-not. I have always wanted a Flemish Giant though, a dream pet for me, but they are very rare around here. In order for me to get one, I would have to drive over 6 hours to get to a legit breeder.

I don't support mills of any kind, but I do know that none close to here do the giant breeds anyway. I have been in touch with the local animal shelters letting them know that if any should arrive that they would have an instant home with me, and I have adequate room, yard, and equipment to house them... sweatdrop The area has had a pretty big problem with mills of all kinds in the past, and in the last couple years, law enforcement has cracked down hard. I have actually had a few bunnies on a couple of occasions that were such cases, but being the smaller breeds, they find permanent homes REALLY fast, since people can get away with having rabbits when they can't have cats or dogs.

But the giant breeds aren't easy to find, and the Flemish Giants even harder so... When I know for sure how permanent our situation is here though, I may just make that 12 hour to-and-fro drive... sweatdrop

Just so you all know... I started school a couple weeks ago. I am going to school from 7am to 10pm two days a week taking Anat/phys 2, Medical Microbiology and Religions. This is hopefully going to be my last semester before I transfer out into a medical school so I am really stressed. for those of you following my saga, my current situation is rather poor. However, I am trying to make life work the way it is. I have been depressed recently... so much so that I've been having a few suicidal thoughts. Even though my wife and I are trying to make things work I'm afraid I might not be capable of moving past my issue without destroying our relationship. okay... ranting over. Mandatory thread is mandatory.

Flemy's are surprisingly common in this country (especially given our apparent hatred of rabbits and their big holes), it could be our small size, but there are a few good breeders and hardly any mills, flemy-x's are also quite common and easy to get your paws on.

I've always been quite interested in breeding animals (more so than breeding myself sweatdrop ), but I feel I may worry too much about where the babies would end up, and that my 'keep in contact with the baby owner' policy wouldn't be too popular. Breeders should be responsible for thier product after all 3nodding

In my opinion a flemish giant is totally worth that sort of drive (notthatiamcompletelybiased) I mean, look how precious they are smile

Part of the reason I got out of breeding was because I wasn't sure about the quality of life the pet rabbits enjoyed after leaving my care...

TBH, I bred several breeds, some for meat, and some for pets. My family pretty much took care of ourselves when I was growing up. and I know some people here might find it appalling that I actually raised animals for food, but I did. I never could bring myself to be the butcher of my meat rabbits though....

So, since I was not an efficient butcher, and I worried for the sakes of the ones who left my care (there was actually 4 rabbits I repossessed after I saw conditions they were living in) I decided I wasn't going to breed anymore.

I definitely know how precious the Flemish Giants are though, and I have always wanted one since I met the breed. The ones I have been in contact with are so laid back. The smaller the breed, in my experience, the more nervous the character in general.

I pretty much stuck to medium sized breeds when I was doing my thing. Rexs as pets and dutch for meat.

Allot of people thought I was backwards, but I'll be the first to tell you that dutch rabbits have a psychotic temper, all happy, cute, fluffy one second and then crazy, squealing, Monty Python Caer Bannoghs the next... I had one damn near bite my finger off, it bit me all the way down to the bone. All my rabbits were VERY well taken care of, and I never gave any bunny a reason to hate me, but those dutch rabbits were so damn unpredictable, I would never sell one as a pet because I didn't want anyone blaming me for getting bit.

I never had an unsweet rex, and I acquired my first rexes from a rescue effort, they had every reason to hate people, but after the initial skittishness wore off after I got them, they were about the sweetest rabbits I ever dealt with. I never had one complaint from anyone who took a rex from me, and even the ones I repo'ed were as friendly to me as the day they left.

I probably won't ever get back into breeding though. A rabbit has a better disposition to people when they haven't been bred, and I am more interested in a pet than in baby bunnies. LOL... besides, I agree wholeheartedly about breeders needing to be responsible for their animals, and I honestly felt there at the end of my time as a breeder that my animals did better with me than anywhere I could send them, and that made it hard for me to do anything.
