Well, you literally tried to tell me that I can't tell the difference between candle wax and water because, apparently I don't know the differences between the various states of matter. ( Solids, liquids, gases )

...This is the trouble with quoting people who lived in the 1600's, and trying to stand behind arguments that might have applied before widespread and mainstream education. Nowadays you're going to be hard pressed to find people who don't understand the differences between solids and liquids ( at least in North America, provided they finished highschool ), which renders that argument meaningless.

Again, thinking for yourself is key, and schools rarely enforce that. The greatest students are the ones that take the taught knowledge and expand on it or reinvent it, not the ones that simply regurgitate existing thoughts.

Unless someone has glaring objections to me being the one doing it, I'll write up rough drafts of the thread, the charter/agreement that binds threads to the Mainstream, and so forth and post them whenever so people can look at it.

EDIT:: Thanks. I chose a random outfit, but I chose the hair on purpose because it's what opaj's avatar has. I'd like to use an item on it to make it appear different though, like the Nightmare or something, with the "I am" function that certain items have.

I read what you had to say, unfortunately you were quoting someone who was wrong, and using an improper experiment to prove your point. You told me that there was no way for the body to discern the difference between water and wax, only the power of reasoning.

My argument was ( and is ) that the power of reasoning is created and defined by the senses and by experience. All the power of reasoning to determine the state of a candle can only come about through having experienced the candle's various states, through the senses.

Hence, Descarte is inherently wrong, because he skips ahead past the foundation of knowledge ( childhood experiences, many of which occur before we're even born ) and to conscious thought. At least, in the case of the candle experiment.

To that end, one would have to argue that animals cannot tell the difference between water and wax, unless they have this same amazing ability to reason. It's not so. The brain is an astoundingly simple thing, despite its complexity. It acts as a sponge, taking in and giving out as appropriate, though the mechanics of how it does so are what make it challenging to understand.
